While driving home from Pullman, I was stressing among the Palouse. I had accidentally driven through the last town for a while, and I meant to fuel up there. It was under 30 degrees outside, and it was a creepy, foggy, quiet night. For moments, I contemplated what it would be like if I stranded myself out among these hills. It would be cold. It would be a walk to "civilization". Needless to say, I was freakin'.
But then as I approached the next intersection, my headlights focused on a sign for gas. Yes! I was saved.
I pulled over onto the gravel. The gas pumps weren't obvious. I saw rows of farming machines, irrigation tanks, and some random buildings. So, I creeped around a bit in my car, in the dark. Then I saw some gas pumps. They were very old school looking ones (i.e. I didn't see spots to swipe a credit card). But when I got closer I saw another machine, and this is where credit cards could be used.
It was weird, but there were instructions posted on the machine. It took me a couple of attempts, but this thing managed to get me going on my old school gas pump. I filled up and was on my way.
So yeah, this a petrol oasis in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of the night. It might be a quarter to 0.35 cents more expensive for gas, but it's totally worth it.
During the day, it looks like lots of farmers use this place, and there is a big hardware store. And yeah, you can get gas here 24/7---a good thing out here! read more
