Dr.A has been my dog Finn's Vet since he was born. Today they squeezed me in without an appointment because Finn injured his toe on his left front paw. Dr.A was kind and professional, all of his staff were also. He removed Finns toe tail in a flash, prescribed him a weeks worth of antibiotics and the total bill was $102!!! SO FAIR AND REASONABLE. The vet is excellent--he clearly cares about the animals, takes time to educate their owners, and works collaboratively to find the best solutions for both pets and their people. However, the experience is negatively impacted by one staff member. The loud, fat woman (Kelly, I think) has been consistently rude to clients and her coworkers, loudly complains, and speaks poorly about clients as soon as they leave, while other people are in the waiting area. Her attitude creates an uncomfortable atmosphere and does not reflect the professionalism or compassion of the vet himself. read more

Dr. Thomm is the best care provider that my animals have ever had. He is kind, thorough, and compassionate. He has treated my dogs, cried with me as he has helped them cross the Rainbow Bridge, gleefully greeted new puppies, and helped them grow into healthy adult dogs. He is not greedy, short-tempered, or rushed with anyone; he gives ample time to both the animal and their human. Expectations of some reviewers need to be in line with the science known to vets. Our animals can't tell them what is wrong and we don't often know either. Could you do better? Have reasonable expectations people, and watch how Dr. Thomm and his staff (including the two desk cats) meet and exceed them as much as humanly and professionally possible. read more

I would not recommend this vet. They're very nice but their complete lack of medical record keeping for their patients resulted in my puppy having to be re-vacinated and we also found a heart murmur at our new vet clinic 6 days after dusty plains had cleared him. Ordinarily I'd say the murmur could have developed in the 6 days post visit and not been a miss by this vet. However, when we called 3 seperate times to verify his medical records this vet office was very inconsistent in their answers and otherwise unable to verify they had even done an exam (at least until the 3rd call). On different calls they said either they had never seen our dog, possibly seen our dog and lost the paper work, or definately saw our dog but dont maintain records on the results of wellness checks. At no point were they able to verify the notes of our puppies last visit but they did offer to translate the poorly written "puppy passport" we had received from the vet via the breeder. Neither I, my gf or my vet were able to figure out what the passport notes said. They also scared us about our breeder because they gave very conflicting information on the number of litters our breeder had had per year. At first they had no record of our litter but had records of 2 other liters our breeder said she didn't have. We never received full clarity on this but from the status of the vets other records I decided I could trust my breeder over them. When I asked if this office normally keeps records this office first said they definately keep records but had just lost my dogs records. The 2nd lady apologized and said she wasn't the one who lost them. Later when the 1st lady called back she clarified they do not keep medical records for any animal, only general billing records. She clarified it was the owner's responsibility to maintain accurate records. This of course was problematic for us since we just adopted the puppy 2 days ago and were reliant on a unverifiable and extremely illegible piece of paper provided by the dusty plains via the breeder. I plan on calling the appropriate vet certification board to inquire if maintaining medical records is an appropriate expectation of board certified vets. And for clarification, this is not a case of 1 vet vs another, this is vet with no records, which is impossible to verify even if they did do a good job. Our trainer and groomer would not accept our puppy unless we had verifiable vaccines for the safety of our dog and other dogs. read more

He truly understands the bond And will do whatever he can to make your visit and your pet's visit as enjoyable as possible. the staff is absolutely amazing because they themselves are kind and helpful without the attitude you get at some other clinics. I am beyond disappointed in this business and Tom. I have taken my pets here to Tom for the last 21 years. He has let me and my family down the hardest this past 2 months. Because this company neglected my dog and didnt take time to look into further problems, eventhough we have been loyal to this business forever... they were so unbelievably dismissive of my pet and told us our dog just had arthritis. 2 months later, we took him to Creekside In Elizabeth for a second opinion and found out he's had cancer for months and we then had to put him down. Because of them, my dog was in pain for months, and because of them we had lost the chance to possibly help my dog. CREEKSIDE ANIMAL HOSPITAL in Elizabeth went above and beyond, found out the main issues. Tom had known my dog since he was 3 months old, and treated him and us dismissively the last months of his life. Long story short, i had a parvo pup. My pup stayed at Dusty Plains from open to close for about 4 days, and she made it!! I took her to an emergency vet the first night, and they said I'd lose her. Read reviews of how honest, reasonable and great Dr Atkins and his staff were so I decided to make the drive with my dog and her ear infection. Dr Atkins is kind, personable, honest and a genuine good person and vet dr. He fit me in last minute on a full schedule and I was very appreciative. He did a thorough dog exam and clipped her nails for free. Most vets don't do half that. I was very pleased with him and his staff and highly recommend him. It's kind of funny when you read some reviews and catch yourself cocking your head and mouthing 'what'! While I certainly would NEVER discount someone's views of a certain situation or a snapshot in time, I do have to question whether or not if the 'reviewer' had taken a few extra days to think about the experience, or even weigh the overall expectations against the negative, many 1-Star reviews could easily translate to a 3, 4, or 5-Star experience. Again, not stating a bad experience shouldn't be noted, but considering the growth explosion in and around the area, let's try to be fair when typing out a potentially negatively affecting review of a GREAT local vet. We have multiple rescue dogs, two cats, a couple of birds, and a few reptiles for the kids, and can honestly say the Doc, his staff, and the house cat running around have been nothing short of spectacular! Dr. Atkins and the team are kind and reasonable. My furry son, Zabuza, had gotten attacked in the forest. My husband found him and we rushed him to Dusty Plains, luckily the closest vet. Zabu was bleeding out and the nurses there immediately took him into the surgery room and cared for him. Basically, the people here at Dusty Plains went out of their way to help and really do care for the family pets that come in. They are very friendly, personable, and professional. Dr. Atkins reviewed each and every charge with us so that we knew exactly what we were paying for. Lastly, they're very reasonable with pricing. A friend of mine recommended Dusty Plains - said that it was reasonably priced. I took our new rescue puppy for some follow up vaccinations. They are very sweet there - Dr. Atkins took his time with the examination and tried to answer all my questions. He seemed very conservative in medications and vaccinations with the animals, which I liked. His rates were terrific.... I would have paid more than twice or three times as much ANYWHERE else. So for basic care, this is definitely a diamond in the rough. It is a very small practice in a very small and modest location - and a pretty far distance from our home in Parker - but worth it to save $ and still get quality attention. However, if I need to get in same day/need specialized care - I think it would be hard for me to get in immediately. I just took the same Puppy to Franktown Vet because of intestinal issues. They were wonderful there with ultra clean modern facilities- but the bill for a simple visit was eye popping vs. Dusty Plains. read more

Dr. Thom is amazing I love him and his staff he is not about the money, he is about the animal! My family has been taking their pets to him for years. If he doesn't feel your pet needs it he will let you know. I feel safe with all of his decisions and recommendations when it comes to my animals also known as my kids. His staff is very friendly and love your pets as well you can tell they are animal lovers from the time you walk in the door till the time you walk out. They all treat you like your family and like they have known you all of your life. Our mastiff was limping a couple weeks ago so I called to get him in. They said they didn't have appointments. He improved overnight and withing a couple days he was fine. It returned last night and this morning he can barely move. I called to see if I could get him in. Unfortunately the receptionist just put the phone down instead of putting me on hold and I overheard the doctor and her essentially saying they didn't want to deal with it because he is a 165 pounds and they can't lift him up. Absolutely infuriating, your job is too take care of injured animals. I also heard him comment that yesterday was one of their lowest revenue days and "why couldn't he have come in then". Good to know what their priority truly is. Piece of advice, learn to use the hold button on your phone if this is how you are going to speak about your now former clients and the pets you are supposed to help. read more

Just a shoutout for Dusty Plains. My pup needed a kennel cough vaccination to be boarded for a few hours last weekend. My regular vet was too busy, so I called Dusty Plains. They were able to get me in within a half hour of my call. I explained what I needed and they were able to give him the oral vaccinations, in the waiting room, right away. No extra fee for an unnecessary office visit, no upselling, just what I needed at a reasonable price. Guess what, Dusty Plains is going to be my vet from now on. read more

We are very impressed with Dusty Plains. We took one of our dogs here for cherry eye surgery and the other for a lump. Both times our dogs received wonderful care. After our dog had her surgery, she didn't handle being in her kennel well apparently. When we came to pick her up, she was cuddled up in the lap of the gal behind the desk and had been there for quite awhile. They truly do seem to care about your pets. The doctor is thorough and kind. They are also very reasonably priced. It is a bit of a drive for us but it's worth it. read more
