On a quiet day, you can see fish literally jumping out of the water.. how cool is that?! It seems to be quite the interesting park, with activity randomly converging from all directions. You have folks pulling over for a short respite, bikers emerging out of the nearby trail, the occasional lay fisherman near the bridge and boaters loading or unloading for the day. It's really a special slice of calm along the busy Atlantic Ave.

There's not a lot of people on a sunny fall day, but those we meet along the way were friendly. It said no dogs on the signs , but saw a lot of locals walking their dogs there. It is well maintained but lightly visited. On the down side, there is a noticeable amount of drug activity around the parking lot, and the picnic areas seem to be used by people with time on their hands permanently. On the other hand, we've never had the list bit of trouble there.

I've been addicted to nature so badly lately like needing a nature fix or two each day even if I only get to stop for 10 minutes. This morning my first morning bringing my son to school from Baldwin to Babylon and starting my first work day with later hours was a little hectic but I was able to duck into this preserve for a quick escape from the daily grind for about 15 minutes. This trail looks bad ass. It's not overly maintained, I'm suspecting there's a lot of night activity. There's graffiti but I can dig that on a trail. There's litter which I do not dig, destroying nature isn't cool. I can't wait to explore this trail more since it's my new home trail to run it and to hike it and see as many nooks and crannies as I possibly can! I'm happy to have a nature escape relatively close to home as well.

Filled with lotus plants and surrounded by thicket at the north end, the pretty pond has a wooden bridge that was constructed so you can walk out over one side of it. It's a tranquil spot to birdwatch. We spotted 6 black ducks, an as yet to be unidentified sparrow and many swallows as they skim the surface if the pond for insects. I could pass the hours daydreaming by this pond if I had the time. There are a few benches by the pond so you can even bring your food from the nearby Bigelow's Seafood if they are busy (uncover the takeout unless you yearn for limp fried food). A little gem offering mighty respite.

The sound was good and there were two jumbo projectors that ensured the whole crowd can see what's going on. The park was very clean and orderly. Going through security was a breeze and no headaches. We were able to bring our own chairs and small cooler for water and drinks. It was crowded but the energy was amazing and respectful. I came for the last installment but I will definitely be back to this park if there is more to come.

All this time I have come to realize there are many generations of families living here. This is mostly because many residents get involved and care about the community. For myself being on the zoning board and involved with the village I have seen first hand all the people who contribute. There are residents on all sorts of committees. We have a architectural review, cultural and beautification committees to name a few and of course the Village Trustees. All of these positions are held by village residents which is a prerequisite and some are strictly volunteer. It's no wonder it's a great place to live and raise a family. Many people care about the place they live which it should be.

I sometimes walk the beach picking up shells or rent an umbrella and lay under the sun for the day having lunch and picnicking. Some of my most beautiful summer tans have come from this private beach. If you have the privilege of being a member or living in the area we're having a friend live in the area don't miss out coming here! At times there are lovely events in the building and you can also go there to eat.
