We played doubles, and my partner and I won the game against the other two players. Points are scored only when the serving team wins a rally, and I am a good server. I learned fast how to make the ball hit the court in front the blue line, which is known as the kitchen. Elvis, the head coach, was thorough in his explanation of the fundamentals of the game. We practiced our skills with our peers, getting feedback from the coach that was assigned to our court. There was a coach for each of the eight courts, and each court had four players. I learned the rules of the game and how to score. The goal is to keep the ball out of the kitchen. You can only volley outside the kitchen. The class lasted approximately two hours, and we all had fun. I will definitely be back to take more classes. The birds and ducks are always cute so that is one plus. There is supposed to be a walking trail, but I tried walking it a couple of times to find it quite short and not much of a trail. There is a playground as well, but I have no experience with that part of the pond. And if you sit at the benches near the parking lot, chances you'll catch second hand cigarette smoke from the old guys who sit in their cars all day most days.

What a freaking cool place…read more Pro tip: the abandoned buildings are stupid easy to find, don't be like me and wander for a good hour/hour and a half wondering where they are. As you may be aware of, the preserve is home to the Holocaust museum for the county (which I plan on visiting sometime soon). If you find parking on the left side of the building (the side with the butterfly garden) you will find the abandoned building on the right side of the museum, as if you venture down to the water. There's a few buildings to see and the history behind them is pretty cool. Next time I will have to bring my Canon to take some nicer shots. Wear good gripping shoes as it can be muddy and you'll slip and side a bit. There are signs for no dogs but plenty of people brought their Fido's and Fifi's.

We really enjoyed it. We started by the mansion. It's suppose to be a museum but it' is closed due to COVID. There is a garden which is very beautiful and the placards around the garden tells you about why the garden is there. It is dedicated to the children of Holocaust. There is lots of woods with many different paths to walk. They set it up nicely with small bridges over a stream with rocks. The path we took led us to the ocean. There is a beach in one side and the LI sound on the other. We walked for almost an hour and it was very enjoyable. We didn't get to see the abandoned buildings with graffiti on them because of the timing . However we will be coming back possibly earlier to be able to see more. Definitely worth the trip. There is free parking.

The duck pond had litter in it, and what little pavement there was needed repair. It took all of five mins. to walk the entire length of the park. I did see some geese and ducks and the pond was somewhat pretty, but all in all it was a waste of the 30 mins. it took me to get there. I thought the g.p.s. brought me to the wrong location, but it turned out that I had to park at the municipal lot across the street from the park and dodge cars to get across the road. The saving grace is that Port Washington is a lovely town and the parking lot for BPP is on the shoreline so you can get some beautiful pictures in the area. Bottom line -- If you're in the area, take 10 mins. to see BPP but don't make it your primary destination.

Don't park anywhere near his house of because he will come out and berate you. Instead drive up the dirt trail by the preserve sign and you will find a dirt lot. Place will be much better when his old grumpy ahh is gone. This should be 5 starts but of course humans have to ruin a beautiful piece of nature.

The wind was fiercely howling and having parked a smidge away from the car congested portion, Big…read morePhil and I spent some moments on the waters edge. The current was rushing with the winds direction and even the gulls could not compensate to pick out the hunks of Italian bread we frisbee-ed in, Lord how they tried. Two distinguishing tall gated areas - being under 30 pounds and to the left, the over 30 pounded which is a wide range but the park didn't set up for excessive headlong running, so high impact mid park collisions seemed to not be likely. The cutest senior Beagle approached me as I let Phil go and greet which he wanted no part of and it wasn't registering as to why. My further entry in was all on hold, the Beagles eyes never left mine as I lovingly stroked him. But Phil was having issues with two puffed out electrified cotton balls with paws that yipped and yapped in his mug without letting up. His owner was engaged in chit chat, not realizie that his dogs are about to get turned and twisted inside out any moment. In point of fact, just about no dog owners were looking at anything but themselves, so it was about to pop, I could feel it, Phil liked nothing about this park, so we went for the exit. The release knob allows for easy access in, horrible access out and my 6'2 long armed frame struggled to get the release knob pulled because it's on the entrance side. Of course the guy with the puff balls from hell comes right up to the gate in an attempt to leave at the same moment! Clearly a covid dog owner - no sense of potential problems no concept of other peoples dogs and there are just so many of you out there now. And after I managed to get the hell away from there, I spun around to see the sweetest thing, the senior beagle followed me out of the two gates and into the parking lot. His owner was very sweet and collected that love dog. Gosh, that little fellow really made my day and I'll reflect upon him often, but the park -- and the owners -- I'll prefer to forget.
