Discovered this place on a recent motorcycle trip, and didn't leave disappointed. It was pretty busy on the Saturday we arrived around lunch time, but we were seated quickly. Our waitress was super friendly as were all the staff I interacted with during my visit. Everyone seemed genuinely happy to be there and wanted us to have a great experience. I was very pleasantly surprised by that. The restaurant itself was pretty plain, but clean. The focus is definitely on their food and service. I had the special of the day, which was a chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and a house made roll for like $10. It was delicious. Everything on the plate seemed made in house, and the roll was hot out of the oven. Their pie case was filled with house made pies, so I had to have a slice. I got raspberry cream, which isn't one I see very often, but do like a lot. It was excellent as expected. By the checkout they had pies, chicken pot pies, bread, and other things to go which also looked amazing. This one is definitely worth going out of your way to try! read more

I've been seeing this place on my Facebook feed and we needed to get out of the house for a few hours today so took the drive down to check it out. It's definitely popular, but it wasn't too wild for a Saturday around noon. We got seated fairly quickly and had excellent service. First item I ordered (Philly Sandwich) ended up out of stock for the day, so I went with Taco Salad and it was great. Mom got Chicken Fried Steak meal. She loved the dinner roll, but the mashed potatoes were very bland. The meat was fine, but really nothing special. We also took home some key lime pie desserts for later. Our table was really kind of gross and sticky from someone having syrup before us. Luckily it was in the center of the table, so we just covered it with napkins. read more

Stopped in for lunch while coming to town to visit another business. Place was very busy and clearly popular with the locals. Food was good, service was good, place was clean. I have a bad back so I didn't love the metal chairs. But they were doable for the short time. I had the turkey club sandwich with a side of fried mushrooms. My husband had the open faced roast beef sandwich. I snagged a bite of his meal and the potatoes were really good. We ate all of our food. I would love to try more things. We did bring home one of the large cinnamon rolls. It was good also. read more

They were slammed Friday afternoon as scores of hungry bicyclists descended on this cafe at the end of a long day of Bicycling Across Kansas. They seemed prepared--calm, not panicky, friendly and polite. My friend and I had a short wait for a table and then were treated to some find country cooking and small town Kansas hospitality. We both had the country fried steak, served with mashed potatoes, gravy and a roll--excellent! Then, the pie! Norm had the chocolate cream and I had cherry, warmed up and a la mode. We stopped for breakfast at Dutch Country Cafe in Garnett, KS, on our way to visit my wife's parents. The restaurant lives up to everything you would expect from a great, small-town, diner. In addition to great food, fair prices, and friendly service, it's spacious with plenty of seating (both dining room and counter service), a separate coffee shop area, and a pastry case. I ordered the Haystack, which delivered a breakfast combo of scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, sausage, and hashbrowns in a pile of goodness. The portions are large, leaving you full and satisfied. The entire bill for two people with breakfast and drinks was $20! Fair warning tip: Be careful visiting the pastry case if you have a weakness for the sweeter side (fruit turnovers, cinnamon rolls, sticky buns and more) dropped another $30 before getting out of there. ;) #noregrets read more

Disappointed. The food was alright. The chicken was small and the fries were old. The butterfly shrimp was old as well. The service was good. The cleanliness of the restaurant was less than clean. I was in town for work and ate here a couple of times but most of the time I would order a cinnamon roll to go. They are delicious. Of the couple times I did actually eat here once I had a (you guessed it) cinnamon roll, the other time I had an omelet that was great. Good food, good service, clean restaurant. read more

I travel to Garnett a few times each month for business, and try to stop in here each trip if I can. I think I made my first visit here the day after they opened. I don't know much about their lunch, but I've had many of their breakfast items, including their pecan pancakes, omelettes, French toast, country fried steak and eggs, and they have all been fantastic. This is not a fast food type of place, so there may be a little bit of wait for your meal, depending on what you order, but everything I have had has been worth the wait. They also do homemade pies, Which are really good. The coconut pie is fantastic, and I am very picky about my coconut pie! The chocolate pie is really good. Then there is the peanut butter cream pie...I generally don't even like peanut butter pie, but the peanut butter cream pie here may be one of the best things I've ever had. It's not a heavy, overly rich pie, but rather a light and fluffy cream pie with peanut butter crumbles on top of the crust, just below a nice layer of custard, and another layer of peanut butter crumbles on top of the whip cream. It's great! There is a coffee shop which is attached to the restaurant, in the same building. You can get a latte, espresso, drip coffee, etc. Staff is all very friendly. Since I travel to Garnett frequently, I'm certainly glad this place opened up! read more

It's all pretty good now. I was disappointed with quality of a lunch when they first opened but they seem to have improved. Unfortunately there is the noise level...chairs scraping on concrete etc. that makes it difficult to relax. read more

I have to agree with Michael below. The place was so nice. It was clean. The service was awesome! But the food did seem like it was some restaurant supply food. I got the roast beef. The mashed potatoes were good, maybe a real and instant blend. The roast didn't seem homemade. The gravy for sure was bottled or a mix. My hubby got the chicken fried steak. It seems to be a frozen prepared patty and not homemade. Boo hoo. We want to love it so much!! read more

Have eaten breakfast there a couple times while visiting family, Friendly and attentive service. Coffee was good and hot, nice big cups. Food was great, hot when served, good portion size. Toast was fresh made bread, tasty! Had the Haystack this trip, better come hungry. We will go again next time we are Garnett. Maybe try some of the inspiration cafe coffee. read more

Down home cooking everything is home made. We enjoyed open roast beef & chicken fried steaks. Pies are wonderful. We appreciated the attentive service. Choice of coffee, sweet or regular tea.
