My grandparents used to take me to eat here when I was a little kid a hundred years ago when we'd visit them. I'm a fried chicken junkie and have been forever and my nostalgic return last week validated every memory I had about how good it was! Place is smaller than I remember (everything always is) but I had a huge smile on my face while I was devouring as much as I could manage. Great place! If you are looking for some good down home cooking, here it is in the middle of know where! Blueberry pancakes are delicious! Ordered an omelet, hash browns, and an English muffin. Our tea was always filled! Service was excellent! Highly recommend.. Prices are reasonable. They also had a buffet set up, but we chose to eat breakfast instead. Nice little out of the way place that is well worth the drive. Prices are better than anything you'll find in large cities, portion sizes are huge, and the food is always ready quickly. The staff keeps track of you very well. How is the food, good portion sizes and full of flavor. The fried chicken is juicy, biscuits and gravy can remind you of what mom used to make. We drive an hour each way to get to this gem near Pomona Lake in Kansas. We come for the broasted chicken. There are so many good sounding items on their menu, but we always get the broasted chicken. The meal is very inexpensive and includes a trip to the salad bar, roll, vegetable and potatoes. I wish it were closer to home so I could explore the menu and try different things. My family has been coming here for decades when visiting nearby relatives in rural Kansas. Green Acres is definitely a down home country kinda place - and if you're into that, this place is for you. I almost don't want to say this part because I'm worried the owners will read this and jack up the prices (particularly in the current state of the market which is understandable), but the prices are so great for families. I meant where else can you still get an amazing piece of pie for $2.98 and a lunch buffet for less than $10? We fed a family of five for under $60 which was awesome - and no one went hungry. The broasted chicken, potato dishes and salad bar is where it's at here as well as any of the sweet desserts. Delicious. I also have a strong feeling based on what I've seen you can't go wrong with the burgers or breakfast. Now, I'm giving this place four stars because of the reasons expressed above, but if I was going to be a little more critical, I would give 3 1/2 stars because the rest of the food on the buffet - while good - tasted a little out of the box/can to me (green beans, corn, macaroni and cheese). I might be wrong but I just wish they had a bit more flavor and/or that home-cooked taste like the other items I mentioned. But again, how are you gonna beat the other positives?!? We were out at Pomona Lake camping, and I saw "BROASTED CHICKEN" which I love, but haven't found anywhere in KS. Well, of course I had to stop by to see if it was real broasted chicken. OMG it was! It was so good! Broasted chicken is where they fry the chicken in a pressure cooker basically. So it's super crunchy and juicy on the inside, without a lot of batter. I just got it to go so every one was friendly and efficient. I'd love to eat there sometime, they have a little buffet but you can also just order food as well. Stopped in here for breakfast while passing through. I must say the price to portion size ratio was great. I got the sausage and one egg plate with a half order of biscuits and gravy. The plate came with the eggs, two nice sized sausage patties, hash browns, and two slices of toast. Once it came out, I knew I didn't need the biscuits and gravy, but, hey, biscuits and gravy! Anyway, the half order consisted of a large biscuit topped with sausage gravy. Everything was quite good excepting for the fact that the hash browns weren't very brown at all. Post service luncheon. M, D, me, and our cousin. Our other cousin and great aunt had other plans. This place does a good sandwich, and they've got a good variety on the salad bar. Adding the salad bar to my lunch was necessary because I saw cottage cheese and peaches, one of my fave combos. Most sandwiches come with a potato side, some kinda fries. Sweet potato fries are tasty here, if you're into those. My grilled cheese was comfort food to the max. For our party of four, I doubt it was much over fifty, could've been a little less. The only problem I have with this place is that it's a 17 mile drive from our house. The food is great and even better yet it's a good bargain. We make the drive because it's well worth it and the pie is a must every time for sure. If it was closer we'd eat there all the time, hands down number one ! read more
