They have very a delicious coffee & lunch. You can order almost any latte, espresso, or coffee drink made fresh to order! In my opinion, the bakery sweets are so overly sweet they almost take your breath away. They run some great deals on soup & sandwich lunch specials so that's worth checking out! read more

After dress shopping our group stopped here to grab a quick lunch. I ordered the make your own and made a vegetarian sandwich. It was as expected, not bad but nothing that makes it unique. I ordered the basket expecting the classic "coffee store" chips to sadly see they were just original ruffles. As for the pickle, I expected it to be a spear and I was let down to find out it was two slices. The cookie was alright as well but nothing special. I ordered the pastries and donuts and those were pretty good. I enjoyed the mocha Bismarck donut. The lemon cream cheese pinwheel was pretty good as well but on the drier side. When in Ames, I can not miss an opportunity to visit the Dutch Oven Bakery near the railroad crossing on Duff. Wandering Boone this week, we found another Dutch oven bakery and found it equally awesome. The Dutch Oven that's located in Ames has been a family favorite for years. We don't get over to Boone as much, but this version of the Dutch Oven Bakery (on the main street) is the place to be when we are. I stopped here last week for a pastry and coffee. There was a lot to choose from on the sweet roll side, but I somehow managed. Very good coffee too! Maybe next time, I'll stop for Lunch. Counter service was home town friendly. And when you see local law enforcement stop here for donuts, well you know this place has got to be good! read more

Visited the Dutch Oven Bakery in Boone on a very nice Fall afternoon in Iowa, after we had hiked the nearby Ledges State Park (look for a review on he park elsewhere.) Folks, this bakery has been around forever, and they serve up some of the freshest pastries and goods you'll find. I chose a "Sticky Bun" (pic shown) and my wife had an Apple Turnover. We also got 2 sugar cookies for later (also shown.) Both the Sticky Bun and Turnover were like they just came out of the oven. Yeah, they were that fresh. We didn't have the cookies until the next day, and surprisingly, they were still pretty soft. Great job, Dutch Oven ... you served up some 5-star treats on what just happened to be my birthday! read more

Delicious local bakery known for fantastic baked goods! You really can't go wrong with any of them but I rarely branch off from the glazed twist because it's just so good. I love the plain glazed and the sugared donuts. I always want to try the long johns and delicious looking apple fritters but never do. The hot chocolate I had was so creamy and delicious! I've had lunch here as well and it's simple but delicious. If I lived in town I'd have a hard time staying away. The place is smaller so it does get crowded. The staff are usually quick to clean up after if you make a mess, but don't forget to bus your table! read more

I used to go here frequently in high school because a best friend of mine worked here so I'd stop by occasionally and visit her and try some different food which was always great. I still occasionally stop by to get some food without her working there anymore but the food is still great like always. read more

I grew up in Cleveland OH and was/continue to be a lover of Dick's Bakery in Berea. Not only does Dick's offer amazing bakery, but they remind me of happy days in my youth. The residents of Boone IA have their own classic, happy-times bakery shop in Van Hemert's Dutch Oven Bakery. Located in the heart of the business district off Story St., the moment you walk into this bakery you know you are in for a tasty treat. Fresh donuts, pastries, cookies, cakes and coffee await the lucky passer-by that takes a chance and stops in. They will not leave disappointed or cash-poor, because the choices are amazing, the bakery is fresh and the cost is super-reasonable. Get a box and load up on a wide selection; we tried a little of almost everything. Love coming here for the chicken salad croissant and of course the huge variety of donuts and pastries, would have to say the Bird's Eye and Mocha donuts are my favorite. Great to being my whole family to, including my five kids, there's something for everyone. We even take a homemade doggie bone cookie home for our husky! Dutch Oven was the choice when the BBQ place down the street was closed Was pleased that a bakery served lunch items. I ordered the Reuben which actually was two small sandwiches that might have totaled one normal sandwich. Came with chips. Place was clean, food came quick. A great local bakery with delicious donuts, pastries and coffee. They also carried fresh baked breads, cookies, bagels and pies. They were quite busy before nine on a Saturday morning, so I knew we had picked a great spot! We tried several different items and everything was excellent. The apple fritter was definitely one of the best I've had in awhile. Everything looked so good, it was really hard to decide! Stopped in this past weekend after driving up to visit Ledges State Park. A co-worker has recommended the Dutch Oven Bakery before, and always gets pies for her family. I can see why! We arrived around 1pm, so most of the pies sold out for the day. We took a slide of apple and peach pie to go, which we both incredible! The pies are clearly homemade, hand made, and baked with care. We also purchased a mini loaf of iced apple bread, which was also delicious! Will definitely stop back in if/when driving near Boone! read more

I live in Ames but occasionally drive over to Boone just for the Sauced & Tossed basket lol. It's my favorite, and the two locations here in Ames don't offer it. My husband tried the new Backyard Bacon Ranch Signature Stackburger and really liked it. It's a great combination of flavors. Their ice cream is great (as usual!) and barely started to melt by the time we got home. Service: Absolutely great! The girl (I forgot her name) that took our order and brought our food to us was incredibly nice. She greeted us with a smile and was really patient with us, despite how incredibly busy the drive-thru was. They were fully staffed and doing their best to make sure all of the orders got out in a timely manner; the drive-thru was LONG and kept getting longer. There weren't too many people inside, thankfully. When she brought our food out to us (we were sitting down waiting), she told us to double-check to make sure our order was correct; it was. All of the other employees that made eye contact also smiled, which was nice :) Ambiance: The new remodeled interior is really nice! It's kept really clean as well. The menu is so much easier to read; it's big, bright LED screens. The interior is simple yet comfortable. It definitely feels more private than before because of the dividers. The noise level was pretty minimal as well, even though they were slammed.

We visited on a Friday afternoon around 2 pm and I was glad some of the baked goods were still available. I quickly picked up a few items: Dutch letters, almond horns, almond tarts, and blueberry filled Dutch windmills. The first three items have a strong but not overpowering almond flavor. I especially liked the almond horns which had a crunch but chewy and buttery texture. I also really liked the windmills and wished I had ordered the raspberry ones as well. It was buttery and flakey with just the right about of blueberry cream cheese filling.

It smells absolutely delicious in there and the endless variety that they offer is fantastic. Not only are there donuts and pastries, they have pies and do lunch as well. They also have coffee and tea, and the inside of this little bakery is so quaint and personable. This location is amazing and we highly recommend it.
