We stopped in for a bit on our way home from Christmas. We were hungry but also wanted a chance to stretch our legs and let our toddler move. This was the perfect place!! It has a super fun shop up front and a cute deli in the back. All the bread is cooked in house and it was delicious!! Their back patio was absolutely perfect for a lunch break! They even had a bucket of balls that you can play with. There was a cute little creek running through the back area my boys loved exploring. We finished up with some delicious fudge and dark chocolate truffles. So glad we stopped in!!

Dutchman's is truly a hidden gem. Driving in from Fort Worth, Dutchman's on the outskirts of Hamilton is the perfect place to stop and eat lunch for any Hill Country excursion. 1 part bakery, 1 part deli, and 1 part souvenir stop, it really does have something for everyone. For us, the sandwiches from the deli hit the spot as I thoroughly enjoyed my Spicy Dutchman and The Wife loved her Reuben. Nothing crazy, but just some delicious, warm sandwiches for the weary traveler. Also do make sure and grab some of their meat products, with some featuring cuts from the owner's own bison herd. I was quickly reminded as to why I'm not allowed to buy summer sausage regularly as I quickly devoured the entire delicious jalapeño cheese bison summer sausage package once we returned home. After a few trips to the Hill Country down HWY 281, we've eventually made Dutchman's into one of our mandatory stops, each way. Whether you're looking for a quick meal or just to spend some money on some hill country fare, Dutchman's is worth the stop.

This is a wonderful spot with a little bit of everything, including tons of nostalgic treats. Definitely stop in to look around.

This was a wonderful restaurant and store. It reminded my family and I of markets up in Pennsylvania. The service was good, the food was good, and the store was cute with all kinds of Knick-knacks and taffy. As for the food, we ordered: the Reuben and the Wurst plate. Sauerkraut was on the dry side which we enjoyed, the sausage was the perfect grind and the pickles were crunchy. My parents enjoyed their Reubens as there were no crumbs to be found. The restaurant even gives you taffy as your after meal "mint". All in all, the experience was quite enjoyable and we've all agreed that if we're ever over in that part of Texas again, we would definitely stop by. Please check them out.

Cute old fashion store. Sandwiches are made fresh. All kinds of chocolate and fudge and the taffy is wonderful and so many flavors. Great stop on the road.

I hope he doesn't bite me for bringing this to him. The green beans were so salty it was more like salt with some green beans on top. Mashed potatoes were ok but not a lot of flavor. My wife wanted chicken piccata until the waitress told her it was served on rice and came with green beans and mashed potatoes. She ordered the ribeye. She probably would have been happier with the chicken piccata on rice with salty green beans. I'm gonna tell our dog the ribeye in the doggie bag is from her so he won't bite me. Their appetizers were pretty good. Onion rings were gigantic but overcooked. The calamari was good. I wish I could tell you about the shrimp but they never showed up even though they were part of our 4 course dinner for two. It was a 3 course dinner for two. A lady at our table got bread pudding for dessert and wanted to take some home. She asked our waitress if she could get some extra sauce. You would have thought she asked for a million dollars. The waitress said she wasn't sure the "chef" would let her have it. Our waitress wasn't very good. She was nice but acted like she was new and didn't know what to do. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

I'm not one to usually write reviews...and this is not about the food…read more What I will say is beware the staff and management. My family and I were passing through Hamilton on the way to Abilene. I was pulling a trailer and accidentally knocked down a trash can that was sitting in the driveway. I got out of my vehicle, reset the trash can and found a place to park while my wife placed our order. All of the sudden an employee was at my car door demanding my insurance information for hitting their trash can which I refused. I got the locations manager on the phone and was given a story about how people had hit their building and left. So now they wanted me to pay for their beloved trash can. I would have no problem replacing something I damaged, but the can was back up collecting trash before I left. AND it was still there when I passed through Hamilton on my way home 3 days later. 5 months later I get a phone call and a bill for said trash can (with the invoice). When I questioned the cost and why it took 5 months I was told they could order other supplies from suppliers, but the trash can had to come from a corporate supplier...a Sonic supplier. $500+ for the can and $500+ for shipping. $1200 later (after I consulted my lawyer and insurance agent) the bill has been paid. But buyer beware, don't mess up in this Sonic or you may pay more for that food than you planned.
