We stopped here on our ride back from Fredericksburg to Irving based on the stellar reviews. Sadly it was not friday and we could not partake in the Friday lunch special (BBQ sandwich) It was Thursday and the lunch special was a club sandwich. We split the sandwich and some chips and got a bag of the oatmeal raisin cookies to go. Let's talk about this sandwich shall we??? OH, I will be chasing this club sandwich "high" for many a day. I don't know if they cure the meats in house or what, but every ingredient shined. And not least of which was the grilled bread - it was such a perfect foil for the meats. (and I loved that this sandwich let its bread shine on the outside and there was no pesky middle piece of bread like traditional club sandwiches. YUM - I will happily go back here! The decor was very "Texan" too, It is less than a block off the main square and is only barely renovated to fit the new use. There were even two sheriffs at a back table talking business....can't get much more Texas than that! read more

This is a great place to eat lunch, or shop for extra special meat selections. The giant sized loaded baked potatoes are a must try. The people are friendly. They have a wide variety of condiments, spices and even jelly and jams for sale. They even have a selection of bison products. read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed Wenzel's yet.. 100% worth the stop! Everything is delicious, from their deli menu with amazing sandwiches and sides, to their ready to bake home meals.. Everything is so good. Highly recommend the deviled eggs and pea salad! Their "special sauce" is one of my favorites. I get it on flat bread. My husband and kids love the pork butt sandwich! This place is great!! We stopped in for lunch on our way to Blanco and loved it so much, we also stopped on our way out of town. All the staff we interacted with was very friendly and kind. On our first stop, we ordered the club sandwich which was the special of the day. Hubby and I usually split entrees these days because the portions are so huge, and Wenzel's is no exception. You really get a lot of food for your money! And it's delicious food at that! We ordered the sandwich toasted and I'm so glad we did! Thick bread perfectly toasted or grilled. However they did it, it was perfection! By the time I went to the ladies room, I came back and the food was already at our table. To visit the restrooms, it feels like you are an employee because you have to go alongside/behind the register and take a right when you see the kitchen. The restroom decor was a hoot - both in the ladies and mens rooms! Love their sense of humor!! On our second stop, we ordered the chicken salad sandwich and it was excellent as well! I could only eat half of my half sandwich. I finished off the remaining portion for dinner. I even measured the bread at home and it's a full 3/4" thick! Perfectly toasted again! Huge selection of flavor sealed meats, sausages, etc. available to purchase. I had a smoked turkey on sourdough toasted and it was out of this world! One of the local shop owners had recommended it and she wasn't wrong. My lunch was so good I brought my daughter and husband back for a sandwich. They had the Earl and a club both said they were excellent. Staff was very sweet. read more

Delicious pork BBQ and hand-made sausage in several varieties are on the menu at Wentzel's! This is where we stop in for lunch or dinner whenever we are going through Hamilton. No-frills here, just great BBQ and a nice shop full of local honey, local sweets, and all the different Wentzel's rubs. They also sell their different smoked meats by the pound, and have plenty of variety of frozen house-made bratwurst, bacon, and sausages. Steve I each had the special, which was BBQ Pork Butt on a bun. I chose Jalapeño chips for my side, while Steve had two deviled eggs and a pickle. Our daughter got the smoked sliced ham sandwich with melted cheddar cheese - each sandwich was super yum and all the meats were smoked here. DEFINITELY worth a venture off the US281! As I drove down a dusty TX road at the point hangry I saw a glimmer of the Wenzel sign through a tumble weed. Could this be a mirage? No, it was a 4.5 rated food establishment in the sleepy little town of Hamilton. Food: My sweetheart and I both ordered sandwiches and a side. I chose the chicken salad on toasted rye and the Mr. had peppered beef with horseradish on sourdough. I would say both sandwiches were dynamite the pea and potato salad we were not wild about, hence the 4 rating. I would say they are classic so I'm sure they would be others cup of tea. Both sandwiches came with a pickle. Atmosphere: This is a very cool meat market. If I was local I would be all over that.....chicken pot pie looks amazeballs. We stopped by this place a couple of weeks ago during the town's Trade Days weekend. The staff recommended we wait in a huge room on the side of the restaurant, as seating was limited. What a treat this was! The staff had laid out free buffet-style appetizer trays with their pork rinds, sausage and other treats made their at the store/restaurant. Then came the best part - free beer! Good stuff, too - not any cheap swill. The waitress screwed up our order by giving one of our sandwiches to another table (the wait for food was a bit much, especially for a Reuben sandwich and a bologna sandwich) but she apologized and brought us some complimentary cake. The sandwiches, when they finally came, were delicious. They tasted fresh and homemade, and really hit the spot. I look forward to my next road trip home so I can keep up with making this a new tradition. read more

We were passing through Hamilton, and were drawn off the highway to the Wenzel LoneStar Meat Company because of their high Yelp ratings. Thank You, Yelpers, you did not steer us wrong. The place is clean, the employees friendly and considerate, and the food fresh, hot, and delicious. We had a Pulled Pork Sandwich -- perhaps the moistest Pulled Pork I have ever had! -- and a Reuben Sandwich, which was also delicious. Oh my goodness, now this is a meat shop! My girlfriend stopped in on a road trip and came home beaming from the experience with a big sack of deliciousness in her hand for us to eat for lunch and another one full of frozen stuff for dinner. She was obviously impressed as she told me all about the place and all the cool stuff they have while we absolutely crushed our sandwiches because they were so good. The Reuben was perfect, the smoked turkey was perfect, the chicken pot pie was perfect (the crust on the bottom is the best bite!), the stuffed mushrooms were perfect, the pickles were perfect. Stopped here on our way home and it was a great choice. I ordered a Reuben and it was loaded with corned beef. They put mustard on it instead of thousand island dressing. It was much better. Follow the yelp reviews! We did, and they did not disappoint. The staff is friendly, establishment is clean and organized, and the food was great. They have a great assortment of meat, frozen meals, pickled items, seasonings, and don't skip the cookies- they really are as good as the note from Rick Perry (posted above them) says they are! We ordered a Reuben, pulled pork, and 2 turkey sandwiches... they were all piled high with meat. The sides of pea salad and coleslaw were fresh and tasted as great as they looked. It took about 10 minutes for the order to come out, just enough time to look around and let my kids giggle at all the "pork butt puns". It was a nice break and a good meal in the middle of a long road trip... this will definitely become one of our regular stops! read more

Wonderful! Their sausage is so flavorful. My friends (Bill & Janet) bring their deer meat here to be processed into hand-made, tasty sausage. We had some of Wenzel's sausage, as part of our breakfast one morning, and let me just say that this ain't your store-bought generic stuff. The sausage here is savory, hearty and nicely balanced, with pepper, sage and Wenzel's other choice seasonings. I watched as they prepared more sausage on-site. The REAL DEAL! Wow, these cats know sausage. We dropped in for the pork sandwich on Friday and carted off a bunch of sausage and brats. For lunch we had the pork sammie with the hot BBQ sauce and it was delish, but had me sweating after the first couple of bites. You need to know though that it don't take much heat to get me sweating around the head, eyes, and neck. The Secretary of the Interior, however, didn't break a drop of sweat. She's a bad 'un. So far we've had the Peach and Habanero breakfast link and the Summer Brat. Both are spectacular. FYI. I read here that they do not serve alkyhol. But as there are Lone Star signs all around I asked. They don't sell. But if you ask politely they'll give ya one. Pretty cool. Can't wait to get back and try a bunch more of their sausages and brats. These folks got it goin' on. read more
