Duval Street Key West Wow this business page brought back memories of my visit to Key West with my boyfriend. I'll look for my photos when I've got more energy. My boyfriend was not into touristy activities. I wanted to visit the gift shops on Duval Street and take tours. I insisted on the tour of Hemingway's home. I did grab a couple of souvenirs that I have to this day. Going to Key West is not a drive I would want to do again. We drove from Fort Lauderdale to the big island. If I could fly into Key West I'd go for a long weekend. I'd spend a lot more time eating and shopping on Duval Street. Maybe next lifetime. If you are young and enjoy traveling get to Key West! This is the main drag in Key West. There are many loud bars near Malory Square & it gets quieter heading towards the Southernmost Point. It's a nice flat mile walk that takes about :20 if you don't stop to look inside gift shops, art galleries, T-shirt shops & bars. Three times a year I come to Key West for a get away and have fun day and night. Duval Street is the center of a majority of the action in Key West. Both sides of the street have bars, restaurants and cute retail shops with very pricey scattered hotels. FYI not much shade on this street in the summer months. The best rates for hotels are one or two blocks OFF of this iconic street. I try to rent bicycles for easy travel from one end to the other. read more

When visiting Key West, definitely reserve half a day to walk up and down Duval street. It's over a mile long with tons of shops and eateries. We parked in the lot next to the Butterfly House. It's $5/hr. to park in most lots. We walked down one side of the street stopping to shop long the way. At some point, the 85 degree heat got the best of us. At that point we trekked back to the car walking down the other side of the street, again stopping at interesting shops along the way. We stopped at many places including: - Margaritaville - it's the original - Hard Rock Cafe - Sloppy Joe's - Hemingway's spot - Flamingo - best ice cream but they take only cash - DJ's Clam Shack - the lobster roll is the best and worth all the hype We drove down Duval street at night too and it looked so pretty with all the stringed lights on all the shops and restaurants. Duval Street is definitely worth a visit. I only gave it 4 stars vs. 5 due to cràzy cost of parking. read more

This is the place to be when staying in Key West. It's over a mile long, from the Southernmost Point for a photo opp, to Mallory Square for the sunset. You will see all kinds of restaurants, bars, art galleries, and unique shops in between. My favorites are: The Hard Rock Cafe, Sloppy Joes, Willie Ts, and La Trattoria. As I write this during the pandemic (Dec 2020) the place is only about 60% as busy with tourists as it used to be; 10:00pm on a Saturday night starts to become pretty quiet at many places. I felt like I was back in New Orleans! It had an old style feel and liveliness. This street is the place to be in Key West! It's an old town with restaurants, shops, souvenirs shops, music and close beaches. Was only here for a few hours in the late afternoon on a Tuesday and it was lively with people and cars. You have to be open minded to the livelihood of this place. Lots to do as well. Many bicyclists and tourists. This is a really cool Street in Key West. Make sure that if you have the choice, visit on a day in which there are no cruise ships. Second best choice is to visit on a day when there's a smaller ship. I recommend you get there early and have a plan of attack on which retailers you visit. If you go in haphazardously without a plan, you're going to get overheated, confused, and you will not take advantage of your interests. We utilized the Duval Loop bus (free on and off) which is air-conditioned on several legs of our exploration. Just look for the pink loop signs that are pretty small and hard to spot Key West, on the weather apps, always indicates 86°. We feel that this is a little bit under reporting the temperature which we showed on every day of our weeklong stay to be around 101 to 105 Remember to take water with you and keep hydrated. If you're biking into old town, I recommend just parking and locking your bikes at a rack central to where you're exploring. If you're driving in, I recommend parking at the Opal Key resort parking deck, which is covered and will keep your car cooler during the day. The cost is actually cheaper than most as it's five dollars per hour and it doesn't charge you all at once for the day. Places that we visited while we were at Duval Street include Kaya Island Eats, the Moondog Cafe, Blue Heaven, Key West Aloe, Danger Charters Sunset Cruise, Tucker's Provisions, Art on Duval, Life is Good, The Truman Annex, Mallory Suare, Kino Sandals, and the Salt Life. Duval Street is iconic in Key West. This street is the place to go for loads of restaurants, shops, gift stores, bars and entertainment. At night, people come here to hang out. The streets are quaint and tourists venture up and down the side walks browsing and exploring. Most of the restaurants have outdoor seating so you can appreciate the warm weather and your surroundings. Also in the evening there's plenty of musical acts going on at the restaurants. For young people there's loads of bars and they're open late. I came here during the day and it was still cool to walk around and see what was going on. Duval Street is nestled right near many other famous Key West destinations including Mallory Square, Ernest Hemingway House and the Southernmost Point. So you can certainly walk Duval Street during the day and then come back at night for a great seafood dinner and check out a bar afterwards for some music and drinks. That's what I did. Also, it was real convenient to catch an Uber or Lyft to and from your hotel room instead of driving and trying to find parking. read more

Duval Street is interesting, but I can only do it for one day. Much like Bourbon Street in New Orleans and Beale Street in Memphis, there are shops galore and lots of bars in close proximity. The sidewalks were shoulder to shoulder for us most of our New Years Day visit, unfortunately. But, we still had fun shopping the shops and seeing the interesting people / cars that passed on the street. We found most restaurants to be packed so despite being really tired and hungry we ended up just ordering from a food truck that did have seating - DJ's Clam Shack - which was really awesome! And, as a side note- We actually preferred our walking and shopping experience one street south of Duval, which ran parallel from the southernmost point to Mallory square. We would highly recommend personal-space connoisseurs to use this street instead of spending too much time on Duval. Have fun & enjoy! read more

Our 23rd trip to Key West was not a let down. Seemed to be a bigger turnover of businesses on Duval St. Some that were new last year already closed. The "Duval crawl" is a must-do, mostly restaurants, bars, combos of that, art galleries, expensive and very cheap clothing stores and a few other businesses. It's a two mile strip, the busy end with all the above, the quiet end also adds Higgs Beach, the Southernmost point and the White street pier while the middle has most of the GLBTQ establishments. read more

Duval Street is the center of all activities in Key West. Duval Street is where you can find everything from cigar stores, restaurants, bars, ice cream shops, and many other establishments. Many of the bars and lounges here have bad singing. But, with enough alcohol in you, the singing isn't too bad. You can find souvenir shops along Duval Street and bring back, magnets, mugs, t shirts, and other things to take home with you. Duval Street is only a mile long from shore to shore. On one end, you are close to the Southernmost Point of the continental USA. On the other end is, the Gulf of Mexico. Duval Street is not good for Californians like my family that doesn't like to walk no more than 4 blocks in the 90 degree plus heat with a humidity that is close to 90%. Not even the entertainment and characters on Duval Street could help them to walk more. Stay on guard when you are on Duval Street. I was attacked multiple times. Mosquitos or "No See Ums" are everywhere. I had more than 10 bites the night that I went to Duval Street. If you are susceptible to mosquito bites, make sure that you protect yourself. Free Wifi is available all along Duval Street and the more popular areas in Key West. Duval Street is a great place to explore, get drunk, and have a great time! This is a really cute and quirky downtown in the southernmost contiguous United States. You could almost feel like you were on one of the Virgin Islands or something. It's pretty busy to the west and gets a little bit quieter as you move East. Enjoy the antique stores, art galleries, quirky shops...things for everyone, especially the LGBT population. Duval Street represents the cultural influence of Key West it's that simple. Driving up and down Duval is a complete waste of time unless you're trying to get from one end to the other because of the parking, walking is the only way to truly experience what this street offers. Unlike times in the past there are few vacant store fronts on this street, it's seems competition for the tourist dollars are pretty stiff whether you're looking to grab a bite to eat, a cocktail or a tee-shirt there's not much you can't find. It's as easy to spot the first time visitors as it is to spot the locals the rest of us fall somewhere in the middle. I always thought there should be some kind of badge or clothing apparel that signifies "this is not my first rodeo" or something that shows the scammers and beggars their wasting their time throwing out their well rehearsed pitches but this is just a part of the overall experience so you just have to deal with it, there's a couple of ways to accomplish this - either carry a pocket full of singles and just hand them out in passing or simply ignore them and keep walking I hate this part but it's seems to be the reality in today's society no matter where you are and must be effective or it wouldn't be so prevalent, anyway it's a minor distraction I usually budget for it whether or not it's a scam. I personally prefer to do Duval Street either before sunrise when the streets are empty and the cleaning crews are out washing down the sidewalks, the food service deliveries are being made and the waste management crews are emptying the over-flowing dumpsters while enjoying a freshly brewed drink from Starbucks or after the sun sets and the crowd at Mallory Square are breaking up and people are out looking for a little fun, otherwise I'm somewhere else enjoying the water or exploring the history of the area... read more

I love fantasy fest and I love Duval street which is where it all goes down. Not only are there shops bars and restaurants lined up on the street but this is where all the floats pass through along with people dressed,airsprayed or naked parade around. Yes,I said naked,like naked naked,nothing on but your skin and it's legal!!! Ha ha ha with that being said Duval is the main point of action during Fantasy fest and a designated tourist attraction. From ghost tours, Ripley believe it or not,other attractions and let's not forget the southern point it's all about a great time. This will actually be my 6th or 7th (honestly lost track) time hitting up Key West for this festival. I love seeing creative costumes,daring naked and airsprayed people and seeing all the de ked out floats. This year was more of a political theme but no matter what your affiliated party it was all about laughs and a good time. There are vendors everywhere selling good drinks that aren't watered down starting at only $5, you can't beat that but being that I was the designated driver I only had a 3 drink count on a 7 hour festive journey. I've only put up a certain amount of pictures because I didn't want to cross the line or offend anyone but I have to say this is a strictly adult party and shame on those who thought bringing children to this event was a good idea. On a recent trip to Key West I couldn't leave without hitting Duval Street. Yes, this is a tourist stop, but boy was it worth it. You can walk miles and hit every stop you can think of, from ice cream to premiere designers like Gucci. After walking Duval Street to see what it had to offer I decided to hit up a few shops. The employees are spot on and some of the food, snacks and drinks I tasted along the way were well worth the stop. I definitely recommend spending a day enjoying everything Duval Street has to offer. read more

So we made it to Key West from Key Largo in about 2 hours and headed straight for Duval St. Had a great late lunch snack at The Conch Shack. Really good food. We had fun and a couple of drinks at Fat Tuesdays. Saw all the roosters. Just had a great day. Shopping was wonderful. 3 stars for the tacky stores every other few yards who had people accosting you as you walked by. I do not want your flyers or your free soap or your free perfume samples. When you would politely say "no thanks" the folks just took that as an opportunity to harass you more. Some were offended and became verbally assaultive. Key West and Duval St, you can do better than this. You don't need to harass your visitors as they pass by every few stores. We still had a great time and will return despite the nuisance. read more

When I think of Key West Duval Street is the first place that comes to mind. It runs north to south from the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico and is 1.25 miles long. It takes it's name from William Pope DuvalI, the first territorial governor of Florida. I had my fun in my youth driving up and down the street in an open jeep filled with friends. I saw a lot of similar behavior going on during my most recent visit. For my daughter's first visit to Key West I drove her down it but it is best experienced on foot which we finally got to do before we left town for the night. The rest of Key West, shops, museums, and attractions roll up their shutters at 5 PM but that is when Duval starts coming to life. The music starts pouring out of the bars and the neon lights turn on. We took our stroll at 11 PM and the party was just getting started at the bars although the non food and alcohol businesses were closed. During the day you can tour the art galleries, shop, and eat. At night the most fun you can have is doing a bar crawl down the street. Some of Key West's most famous bars are on Duval like Hemmingway's watering hole Sloppy Joes, Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville, and Flying Monkeys just to name a few. During the 10 day Fantasy Fest held every October the street is the site of a parade where pretty much anything goes. This is where the tourists hang out to play. It's a must stop for any Key West visitor. read more
