Duval Street is filled with all sorts of wonderful things. You have tons of gays, old people, children, and everything in between wandering up and down the street at all hours of the night. Along with the various types of people you have the various types of shops to accommedate the diverse crowd. Think Beale Street in Memphis; Bourbon Street in NOLA; The Vegas Street of LV or Sunset Strip in LA... that's exactly what Duval Street is of Key West. It is where the show goes on at all hours of the day. You're just as likely to find chickens running around just as likely you are to find a fine dining seafood restaurant. When I say chickens -- I do mean chickens. They roam freely around these parts. Which leads me to my next point. If you stay on Duval Street; don't be surprised if you wake up at the crack of dawn to a rooster crowing. Besides chickens - Duval is good for bars of all types including the clothing optional Adam and Eve, restaurants galore, music venues, art galleries, museums, tons of shopping and KEY LIME PIE shops. My best suggestion as a guide to Duval Street. If you are not able to book a hotel right off of it then plan on parking your car somewhere within the vicinity and plan on being there for a good portion of the day because most land activities can be found within a mile's proximity off or on Duval. If you don't like the touristy scene; my strongest suggestion is to go as far away from it as possible. I can't vouch you would have as much fun on your visit, but it will be quieter elsewhere. Duval street is the main commercial / tourist / bar and restaurant strip in Key West. I wrote a long time ago about Duval street, "if you can't find a bar on this street than you can't find your own face". Parking in Key West is a pain in general and this street is no different. You will see lots of scooters and basically this street is the main drag so it's a cruising street to a certain degree. There are parking lots off of side streets but also meter parking as well. Duval is a north south street and runs parallel and is flanked by Whitehead to the west and Simonton to the east. On the south point of Duval the Southernmost Point marker is near the bottom of Whitehead and at the north end is Mallory Square park. All along this strip there businesses mostly geared towards tourists with just about something for everybody. read more

Of course come here! It's the heart of Key West. It is where you will be walking your ass off most of the time. Whether you want to go to CVS because you forgot something and need a drugstore or you are actually staying at the Crowne Plaza, which I hear has very tiny rooms, you will be zigzagging a long Duval Street. The architecture is, well, Key West style. Colorful pallets of pastels which include lime green, blue and yellow among other colors are vivaciously displayed on either side of this street. What do you need souvenirs or your dining and having a delicious lobster roll at the clam place, you will be coming here and it's unavoidable and beautiful. read more

I wish someone would have posted a trip guide or recommendation like this before I ventured out on Duval Street. Most people have a misconception of nightlife in Key West as up to date, tropical and welcoming bars. Bourbon street in New Orleans is CLASSIER than Duval Street if you can fathom that. Duval was disappointing to say the least due to the trashiness of the street, bars and people. Rude bartenders/street vendors and expensive drinks along with a mass of unfriendly flamboyant individuals extended across every bar. The best bars were The Green Parrot and Willy Ts. The worst service was Ricks. Overall Duval was unimpressive and overrated. read more

Duval Street is what every street near a cruise ship landing spot is like, cheap shit, expensive beer, and the occasional spot worth a stop. I can't think of a decent restaurant on Duval worth stopping at until you get south of Truman. The rest specialize in tourist crap, sold to people who will never return and whose opinions matter little. I've seen so many places turn over in the last year, maybe business owners on Duval should look at what's happening and fix it. My husband and I went there for lunch on Tuesday against the advice of friends whom had a bad experience at dinner recently. We walked in and saw that all the seating is together!!!! Like one long curved table where you had to sit extremely close to strangers!! We were not impressed with the hole in the wall decor. The outside was very attractive but it was just way too hot....After viewing the bizarre table for everyone to sit at and waiting over 10 minutes to be acknowledged, we left and went somewhere else. Fun street the island is only two miles wide here so we walked from one end to the other. Lots of beautiful old architecture, cool bars with every conceivable theme you could think of, many touristy type stores. A must see with a group or friend who likes to party. One bar had dollar bills stapled ever where that visitors signed and put up. The best was the first one we came across after parking The Green Parrot you must see this one for yourself! read more

I feel I was being targeted for being Asian by the cashier at the paradise found store. I was visiting from California and went to this store to buy a t-shirt around 11pm on a Thursday night (not drunk or under any influence). The cashier said that he was repairing the store and I had to wait 20 minutes before he could sell me one. Note that the register wasn't broken and he could have rung me up. I was the only customer in the store and I only had one t-shirt I wanted to buy. After about 5 minutes, I asked the cashier if he can ring me up and repair the store later. He got angry. After few other conversation, he told me that he wouldn't sell me the t-shirt and threatened to call the police if I don't leave the store. All of this because I wanted to buy a t-shirt. I am a 5 ft 2 inch Asian girl - can't see how I could have been threatening. He eventually called the police. The police said that I was trespassing and told me that he could arrest me (how is it trespassing to go to a store to buy a t-shirt). The police also told me that I could leave the country if I don't like it. I was recording a video, so the cashier finally decided to sell me the t-shirt instead of creating a scene. read more

Getting dated. Few stores offer creative shopping and the music was terrible for the 3 days we were in town. We travel frequently and could offer many other alternatives. Most of the best restaurants have moved outside the Duval area. A place to walk if in area but no longer a destination. read more

Duval street is the main pedestrian drag in Key west. It is really a lovely street that stretches one mile roughly from the North end to the South end of the Island. This is where you go to shop, dine, drink and people watch, or even party in the street at one of the events that shut the street down to traffic. In the past it was not fully developed with businesses from one end to the other, but it is now. The tacky t shirt shops are less prominent, as more upscale businesses have moved in. I always enjoy a trip on this street, day or night. The first thought that comes to mind about this street is FUN! read more

All the different bars and night life are a must see. It has something for everyone. Dive bars or dance clubs, drag queen shows to quality restaurants. Great shops for shopping little keep sakes to street vendors with some great hot dogs. The parking is not good at all during peek season so take a cab in. read more

My bf and I had a great time on Duval St., so much to see, so much to do it is really a great time. Lots of shops, food, bars, nightclubs, etc.! A must do while in Key West. Check out the restaurant Fogarty ' s too! Delicious, reasonably priced and huge portions! I've heard the conch fritters aren't the best so don't get those, but I can vouch that the 12 Oz BBQ Burger and the fish sandwich are DELICIOUS. Have fun! =) read more

Key West is a pretty cool place and Duval Street is where most of the action takes place so if you travel to Key West get a hotel near Duval Street. The street is about a mile or two long with a bunch of little shops for souvenirs, bars and a restaurant on every corner. Personally speaking I would rather hang out here than at South Beach in Miami and I've been to both. Make sure you get here in your life time, it's worth it. read more
