We booked Duy for the 10-hour wedding package, which included our engagement shoot, and he was absolutely amazing. Duy photographed my August 2023 wedding, and his artistic sense and professionalism were phenomenal! Initially, his portfolio stood out to me due to his excellent composition and editing style. Compared to a lot of other "photographers" out there, Duy has full mastery over the fundamentals - from how he frames his subjects, to his usage of space, the stories that the photos tell, and more. He doesn't take weird photos of the bride's behind or random photos with no space above one's head; his photos all make you look and feel good! :) His editing style is also very natural - no over saturated colors, no fake noir graininess - so your wedding will preserved exactly as it was. During the planning phase, he was very proactive in reaching out to us and going through all the details of our schedule - enumerating all the formal portraits, when each portrait session would happen, what events needed to be documented when, etc. The day of, everything was executed as planned. Duy is so wonderful to work with. My husband and I hired him for both our engagement shoot and our wedding. Photos for both were incredible. I was very picky in what I was looking for in a wedding photographer and surprisingly, with tons of 5 stars photographers in the Bay Area, I had trouble finding one that I liked completely...there was just something I didn't like about each of them...either the quality of the photos weren't as crisp/bright as I had hoped, or the subjects of the photos looked unnatural/uncomfortable like they were posed against their will, lol. When I came across Duy, I had absolutely no doubts he was "the one!" and basically prayed he was available on my wedding date because his work was EXACTLY what I wanted: clear/high quality photos (duh), lots of candid/in the moment shots, and ultimately, I felt like each of his photos both captured and evoked such genuine emotions. I'll let his work speak for itself (see attached photos of some of my fave shots). Not only is he extremely talented, he's so professional, timely, and relaxed/cool/funny. Honestly didn't notice him most of the day because he is not there to take you out of the moment at any point throughout the day, but rather to capture you IN THE MOMENT! He obviously will guide you through the posed shots but he doesn't direct you or pose you the whole day (trust me, you don't want that). The real special photos are the ones where you're actually present, really present, on the biggest day of your life! And Duy captures that all while making sure you look good! Lol. Duy's assistant on the day-of was pretty freakin' awesome too, Thea I believe her name was (why did I start talking like Yoda?...). Obviously, there is so much going on at a wedding so wherever Duy couldn't be, she was, and I got excellent feedback from both guests and wedding party on Thea as a person. She even found crazy glue to help glue back on my nail that I broke off from trying to open champagne right before the ceremony, LOL. That was definitely not in her job description so hats off to her for coming to the rescue! After the wedding, Duy sent us teasers in the first 1-2 weeks for the fam/friends that just couldn't wait to see a snapshot of the day and not too long later (less than a month) we got all of our photos. That's an INCREDIBLY QUICK turnaround y'all. Keep in mind we caught Duy at the start of wedding season so that might've played a role in how quick our turn around time was, but whatever you have to wait for your photos, I PROMISE it'll be so worth it. My husband and I were planning to get married May 2020, but ended up having to postpone twice due to the pandemic and just trying to find a better time where everyone could gather more safely. We ended up finally getting married in May 2021. Our wedding took place outdoors in Joshua Tree at a private property. I have had the privilege of working with Duy in the past before he was my wedding photographer, so I already trusted him immensely. Seeing Duy's wedding photography over the years, and being floored with every gallery he delivered for the art events we both worked together on, I knew I wanted him to shoot my wedding when the time came. Duy's attention to detail is like none other, and if you're looking for a unique non-generic wedding photographer then Duy is your dude. What I always loved about his work was that each photo evokes strong emotion and collectively his work tells the story of the people that come together at the events/ weddings with a docu style approach. Also, my husband and I both being SUPER awkward in front of the camera never concerned me because Duy is SO good at what he does that he can capture any socially awkward couple and make them look like freaking supermodels. Duy is punctual, flexible, has strong attention to detail, knows how to prompt genuine reactions and poses, and holds himself at a professional standard that is so hard to find these days. He is brilliant at shooting in bright lighting AND dark/ limited lighting venues. He always has great communication with his couples which is so helpful, especially when you are the bride and the event planner. I actually never provided him with any list, because he just gets it. When the coronavirus pandemic upended our wedding plans, my partner and I decided to still get married. Since we didn't take engagement photos, I really wanted to take photos on the day-of our wedding. The photographer that we hired for our wedding lives outside of the Bay Area so that wasn't an option for us. I came across Duy's photography back in 2018 on instagram and I really appreciated the aesthetics of his photos. After we had the initial phone conversation with Duy, we knew we wanted to use him. Duy was incredibly flexible, we wanted to take portraits in the morning to capture the right lighting and then he came back that evening during our ZOOM ceremony. Since our ceremony was 100% remote and in our living room (not the most beautifully decorated) I wasn't sure how the photos would turn out but when I first saw the teasers, my heart bursted with love. He captured every emotion: the nervousness as we said our vows, the love after our first kiss and our parents faces as they beamed with joy. Duy was able to capture such a historical moment, not just for us but for generations to come. Our children will be able to look at our photos and know immediately that we got married in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. It takes a real artist to capture the emotion and essence of a ceremony in such a unique setting with no friends and family in attendance, other than via zoom, and at a venue (our condo) a fraction of the size of any reception. Duy Ho photographed our wedding in October and we couldn't be happier with the results! He provided way more photos than we even expected, in addition to so much great footage with our video add-on. He is also really skilled at editing and was able to deliver our photos and vidoes to us before Thanksgiving. We were on the fence about adding the videography portion, but now I'm so glad we did.
