This was a rather large project, and it was a challenge for us to visualize how it would come together, as it involved creating a huge patio area with three paths, 10 steps, and 2 long retaining wall sections. We visited a local masonry showroom and selected Nicolock pavers which Benny agreed to work with. Benny came to our house and helped us map out the shape of the new patio and quickly understood what we desired for our paths and walls. This included adding drainage pipes under the patio and under a path to handle two downspouts. We wanted a fire pit near the edge of the patio, and planned on using rocks from our yard, placing them ourselves. Instead, Benny and his team built the fire pit for us using our rocks and cutting each rock to make them fit in a perfect circle. This was a much nicer result than what we had imagined and is now an eye-catching feature. Another requirement we had was to place the patio pavers at a 45-degree angle. Benny explained that this would involve a significant amount of additional cutting of the pavers as well as requiring more pavers for the job and require an additional charge. We found the additional cost to be reasonable and we are thrilled with how the patio looks with angled pavers. Benny's team did a beautiful job expertly handling all the additional cutting so that everything fit perfectly together. The DH & K Construction crew were meticulous and clearly took pride in their work. Overall, they were professional, hardworking, friendly, neat, and polite. Benny was on site most days to manage the project, resolve any issues and work with his team. He checked in with us on a regular basis to verify we were pleased with the progress and to address any questions we had. It was clear his top priority was to make us happy. We are extremely happy with the result and are enjoying using our new patio. It has transformed our outdoor living space and provides that resort feeling we were hoping for.

He recommended the best layout for the space and suggested opening a soffit to provide more room and improve ventilation for the shower/tub unit. Throughout the project, he or a team member was present to monitor and manage all aspects, from demolition, replumbing, and rewiring to the final placement of fixtures, ensuring everything met building standards and our satisfaction. He also addressed mold and water issues, using quality materials to prevent future problems. One suggestion for homeowners planning a remodel: make sure all products, fixtures, and tiles are ordered, delivered, and inspected before the project starts. We mistakenly waited to order the shower/tub unit until after the demolition, which led to a scramble for a timely delivery--only to find that the unit was damaged upon arrival. Thankfully, we managed to get another unit delivered and ready for the plumber when he arrived. BUYER BEWARE: I hired David Carr to build for 3 contracts…read more The Deck: I initially hired Mr. Carr to build me a deck. I was delayed in getting a permit to move in my new house due to continued problems with the back deck. The steps had to be torn apart and re-done because they were not built to code. First State Inspections turned it down several more times until everything was corrected (step height, railing spacing, etc). After some time, I was finally given a permit to move in; however, I was told I was not allowed to use the back deck exit, only the front entrance. He took apart the railings while he was rebuilding the steps and piled them up in the dirt in the back yard. It was a YEAR before he completed the railings. When he finally reinstalled them, they were all scratched up and stained from the dirt and stones. He would not replace them. He put the vinyl covered posts back up with new screw holes and the old holes he filled in with putty. Unbelievable!! I insisted they all be changed. He did change the vinyl post, but would not replace the scratched and stained railings. A board on the steps was not screwed back down. I did not catch this because the screw holes were there from his first attempt at building the steps. Someone fell going up the steps when the board came loose. I was lucky I wasn't sued. When he first started on my deck, it looked nice, so I hired him to build the front porch. Looking back, I wish I had waited to see this project through first because I would NOT have hired him for anything else. I kept all paperwork, including contracts, permits, inspection failures, BBB complaints, Attorney General's complaint, and a complaint with the Delaware Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

We were given a written proposal to fix our rear deck and front porch with everything explained,…read morethe contractor Guy Racine agreed on the price and (GUY) the contractor started work. 3/4 of the way finished the building Code inspector showed up on the Job site asking for a building permit, the Contractor Guy Racine said he didn't pull one. Over the next few days the Contractor tried to get us to pull the permit stating it would be a lot cheaper yet in the proposal it states that the contractor pulls the permit. I called the town and they advised me NOT to pull the permit as if I did it I'd be liable for a injuries or mishaps. Guy the contractor told me that the town was using scare tactics on me and that I should go ahead and pull the permit..I refused. Since, the Contractor wants to negotiate his price for more money. I met with the build inspector and he pointed out a lot of poor workmanship that GUY at Racine homes did and it will not meet Code standards. No Flashing on the rear deck or front porch, No 12 inch concrete footer at the bottom of the step on both set of step, they are just sitting on the dirt, no correct spacing on the Rear steps leading into the house. It has been weeks and within those weeks I have had no Contact from the Contractor and while we were not home, he came and removed all the building materials from the jobsite that I paid for to complete the job and took the front railings off the front porch. Unfortunately it has come to leaving a bad review but if it will help someone out from not getting taken advantage of, then it helped.

They also worked with a…read morelocal subcontractor to custom build our screens and removable inserts to make the space a nearly 4 season room. Let's start with the pros. They were excellent communicators throughout the process. Richard did our initial quote, then Mike throughout the build. They were always timely and professional, and I never felt any of my questions were stupid or minimized. Once the build started, they kept me updated in both timing of different parts of the project and also how the payment structure was broken down. We use this space constantly because I love how it turned out, so that's the other pro. Once it was done it was immediately usable. The main con was that we had to wait a bit due to projects in front of ours, and the weather/temperature since the build involved concrete pillars. We knew this project would not be cheap, but that was mainly due to the materials and the additional time those materials inserted into the build. For example, you cannot see any fastener holes from the top of any of the boards. We already have Cipriani in mind for our kitchen remodel in the near future. I highly recommend them. We've worked with a number of contractors over the years (old house, go figure!) and they were so much better than any of the others.

His price was in line with what I expected and lower than some who would use inferior materials. He also wouldn't require payment until the work was completed. His crew obviously knew what they were doing and they completed the job in two days. He had to charge extra because 27 sheathing panels had to be replaced because of delamination of the CDExt. He was great to work with, his crew did a great job and clean up was also great. Overall, A++. Ne also provided copious pictures of the work.
