This is a sanctuary for many animals so dogs aren't allowed. There are a few trails and an actual bird watching hut by the water. We love packing a picnic and sitting at one of the covered picnic tables listening to the sounds, we also love a quick walk on the looped trail to stretch our legs. If you do t feel like walking, some time at the dock viewing birds can pay off as once we even saw some otters and turtles. You never know what you'll see!

It was an amazing time and I highly encourage everyone to make it out before the 15th (the last time for the year is Feb. 14th and 15th 4-5:30pm). They also have skygazing events still happening where they meet at night with volunteers from the local astronomy group who bring telescopes. There's events here year-round and a reasonable portion of the trail is wheelchair accessible.

There are dog poop bags available and also trash cans spread along the trail. Please do bag up your pups poop and deposit it in a trash can. Saw several bags just left along side the trail. Also folks left some garbage off the trail. Please do make sure you pack out what you pack in. Dont just leave your garbage there for someone else to pick up. The good : 1. There were not a lot of people. 2. There was a mix of dirt trails and paved trails, which was nice depending on what type of excursion you would like to have. 3. There was a lot of birds out. It seems like it would be a great place for bird watching. 4. There were a lot of various places you could park to get onto a trail? not sure if this is good or not. Some off road parking, over at the harmony park n ride, the main lot - which is not super large but seemed to accomodate the number of people that were there. The not as good : 1. There are a lot of bugs out. Bring your bug spray! or spray up before you head out here. 2. There are a lot of places to park?? It was a little confusing on where the trails go and where to start at. Maybe i just needed to do more research. I thought I was meeting up with some other ladies but i went to wrong lot initially and never did find them. Overall as far as natural areas go, it was good. I prefer hikes. BUT this was good for a nice walk.

My sole purpose for coming to Kanemoto Park was just to see the Japanese Pagoda & Gate…read more At the entrance to the Tower Of Compassion, which is the real name of the Pagoda, stands a red torii gate. There's a tree that is so big that it partially obscures the view of the tower itself if you're standing in front of the torii gate. The tower looks like a traditional Japanese Temple. It was built in 1973. It has 5 stories with each representing the attributes of compassion which are Love, Empathy, Understanding, Gratitude of all Things, and Giving Selflessly of Oneself. You can't enter the Pagoda. Not sure if there's even anything to see, but it might be cool to just look inside! Cool Fact: Longmont City Council has designated this Tower Of Compassion a Local Historical Landmark. In the area in front of the Tower is the Kanemoto Memorial Cherry Tree Grove, where there's a good number of Cherry Trees. I don't think these cherries are edible. This 7-acre park was donated to Longmont by the Kanemoto family in 1966. Side note: This family also gifted 10 more acres of land for other facilities like a Fire Station, Buddhist temple, Episcopal Church, Elementary School and the St. Vrain Greenway. Besides the Tower Of Compassion, this park has a nice playground, activity pool, basketball court, soccer/playing Fields, sand volleyball, & adult exercise equipment. On the cement path leading to the Pool & Tower of Compassion, and just outside of the restrooms, there's a large Dragonfly metal decoration. I love dragonflies, so it was a nice sight! The Left Hand Creek runs alongside this part of the path. It only takes a few minutes to walk to this tower. It's worth a visit if you're in the area. However, I made it a point to stop by on my way to another destination while visiting the area.

There are nice clean toilets and field areas. Plus a cute playhouse in the sandy area. There is a picnic pergola, basketball court, racket ball court, workout area, and more!

There are a couple…read moreof accessible parking spots with access lanes right in front, and an accessible outhouse near the parking lot. The trail is wide enough for a wheelchair and is packed gravel/pea sized pebbles. My travel power chair did great on it, a manual chair might have trouble getting traction. It's about a half mile loop, there are informational signs throughout and benches scattered along the way if you need a place to sit. There are audio description devices available at the visitor center. There are also grills and picnic areas that are available when there is not a fire ban. Beautiful views!

Daily admission fee is $10.00…read more If you have the annual parks pass from registration renewal, there is no need to get a paper pass or placard from the Visitors Center to put in your car or hang on the rear view mirror. Your car license plates are sufficient. Park Rangers will check your plates to ensure you have the annual pass. The gentleman (volunteer) at the Visitors Center shared this information with me. I loved that he had a good sense of humor and was personable. We shared some good laughs together. I recommend going inside the Visitors Center to check out their wildlife display and to get helpful information for your visit to the park. There is also a small gift shop area to purchase books, maps and souvenirs. Staff will give you a free map of the park. There is also public restrooms at the Visitors Center. There is also a nice telescope inside the Visitors Center and a nice viewing deck with historical signage. I always enjoy reading this information for its historical value. I always learn something new. The roads in the park are all dirt so plan ahead for washing your car later. There are various parking lots to park your car before wandering off on trails. There are a lot of lovely views around. Have your camera or phone ready to take those landscape or perhaps wildlife photos. I didn't see any wildlife in the park today. I would've hiked various trails but I've been recovering from some injuries. Next time! I would love to return here. I very much enjoyed my visit to Lory Park. If you haven't been here, visit before the next snowfall! The weather was nice today so I felt fortunate. So glad I stopped here.

Nice local hike if you are in the longmont area…read more There are trash cans and a recycling can at the trailhead. However, there are no dog poop bags. if you are bringing your furry friend, be sure to pack some bags along with you. There are 3 different trails at the open space none of them overly long. The overlook trail is more rocky though not bad. There are also no trees. The loop trail has some trees but its not really shaded. The loop trail does have some lovely views. In september to at some point in January, the trail does close to hikers monday through weds. for "elk management" so be sure to check cotrex to see if trail is open or closed. Winter is really a great time to hike this area. The temps are cooler and the snow makes the trees and area look magical.

The prickly pears had just bloomed and we saw lots of birds and two different groups of mule deer. It's a great hike to take with kids. The elevation changes are gradual. You do share the trail with horseback riders and mountain bikers so be aware.
