We are scouting all the local dog parks, within 30 miles of Firestone, today toured Longmont…read more Since I missed my turn for Rough and Ready Park, ended up going to Dog Park #2, which ended up being the largest and nicest of #1 and Rough and Ready (both of which are on 21st street a few blocks from each other), those we ended up just driving by and found them to be rather small and lacking (that said the Rough and Ready park is a great area as a park, with an enclosed dog area, so if that is what you are looking for its a really nice place, we were wanting large open space kinda of places). This park is a really nice size, lots of apparatuses for agility training. Overall while the park was filled with owners and dogs, did not seem as openly friendly, and more dogs then I have seen at other parks, a bit more aggressive with owners not paying attention. Maybe it was just today. Our neighbor has gone to this park and she commented on amount of dog waste not getting picked up. Today was very clean. So could just be what shows up, is what you get.

There are agility pieces throughout the park, they are in pretty rough shape but they serve a purpose. There is a covered area for the humans with a couple of picnic tables too. There is water available during the spring, summer & fall moths. There are plenty of water bowls to share & tennis balls to share too! Usually people bring a few kiddie pools that the dogs get to enjoy during the summer. People seem pretty nice but as usual you have to watch for other dogs picking on yours or vice versa.

It has all the basic necessities with garbage bins, poop bag dispensers, and even a separate small dog enclosure. My only real issue with it is that it can attract some sketchy people. For example, I've seen a guy light up a joint there (in the presence of kids nonetheless) and the smell was nauseating. For the most part, however, it has decent people who know how to be respectful.

The location is easy to get to with plenty of available parking. However, I wish there was a doggy potty area by the entrance, it's just concrete. The hours are fantastic, from 6AM - 9PM. I have only used the day care service. Note, if you drop off before 7AM and/or pick up after 7PM there is an additional $10 fee. Skiptown is the only place I've found in the Denver area with daycare pick up after 7 PM. Most of the time when I drop off other than early morning there has been a wait for my dog to taken back. To get started you need to download the app. Everything is done thru the app - scheduling daycare, payments, vaccination records & arranging a first time observation visit, which is required. The staff is super friendly & attentive. There have been a couple times that Skiptown called with concerns about my dog. And that I greatly appreciated. Overall, a great choice for doggy daycare.

Despite that, my dog was not fed dinner, and her breakfast instructions were only partially followed. More concerning, when I reached out after noticing their app did not show her dinner as completed, I was told she had been fed. That information was incorrect. I also did not receive any of the updates or reports that were expected during her stay, and my message to support went unanswered for approximately 9 hours. At pickup, I was handed back her untouched dinner along with the remaining portion of her breakfast, confirming the instructions had not been followed. When I raised this with staff, the only resolution offered was a credit toward a future stay. This experience reflects a breakdown not just in communication, but in executing the most basic responsibilities of pet care.

However I had to take a star off because this last year, since the Covid, far too many are bringing large dogs into the small dog pen and it is VERY dangerous for truly small, old, or blind dogs to have the huge dogs there. Often they are not picking up after their dogs and that never used to happen, either. I hope this is not the new normal in the the small dog pen. I hope more people follow the rules and take their big dogs and huge puppies into the large dog areas (there are TWO!!!) and are respectful of others and of the small dogs.

It was interesting to see the flood lines on the trees along the river. This is a free hike. We parked at the Rogers Grove Park lot and picked up the trail from there. It crosses under Hover St/N 95th St. It is an easy walk with very little elevation gain. We walked to the St. Vrain River Waterfall and watched the ducks for a bit. This was a lovely stop while making our way up to Fort Collins.

Golden Ponds is great for what it is. Is it secluded with no sight or sound of roads, houses,…read morepeople? No. Does it feel like a bit of untapped nature within a short drive of your neighborhood making it easy to frequent? Absolutely! Many people walk, jog, and take their dogs here. I often see fishing as well. There are not too many bicycles. It is also great for any birders interested in water fowl, such as pelicans, cormorants, blue heron, and ducks. We have enjoyed taking our dogs to Golden Ponds over the years. With the area having a few ponds, you can switch up your walk. Some areas around the ponds are full sun and others offer a shaded reprieve. I have not had any issues finding parking, which is free. The park also has benches around ponds, canopied picnic tables, and flushing toilets in the restrooms near the entrance.
