The staff did not really seem to want to work with me, given the high end whiskey I was asking for, but they were quick to answer me most of the time. I rarely give a 1 star review but I witnessed something today that I thought was rude. I live around the corner and come here to buy lottery tickets when the jack pot is large or to buy liquor for a special occasion. Today, the person behind the counter berated a young a man (he did look young, I will give him that) that was simply looking around - not buying yet, looking. He told him he was too young to be in the store and he should leave. The young man showed him his ID (25 years old, BTW) and then just huffed off - No apology, no "I'm sorry" - maybe he thought this "kid" was up to know good (neighborhood kid - nice guy). The young man sulked off. This incident left a bad taste and I put all my stuff back and left. read more

This place smells weird and the person behind the counter was rude. Legit they may have been rude because I was wrinkling my nose so hard it was contorting my face. Chemical disinfectant or something? Gaa, I'll never get that smell out of my nostrils. All I bought was a soda but I think i'll pass on going back for liquor. One star for having a good beer selection but way overpriced and not following COVID guidelines. Last time I went in I was deciding whether or not I should pay $35 for a bottle of Crown Royal that can often be found for about $25. There were 3 workers talking next to each other by the registers all with their masks beneath their chins. At least wear a mask while customers are in the store. It's hot and super stuffy in there so it already feels like a good place for airborne contamination as it is. Walked out and told them they should learn how to wear their masks. read more

I looked everywhere for this new drink that Travis Scott makes, and this liquor store was the only place. As soon as I stepped inside the rude lady made assumptions about my age and gave me attitude for asking about if they had "Cacti" . She barely responded and mumbled something I didn't understand. Then she brought his son who was worse than the lady. The guy checked my ID for so long and asked if I was buying anything else with it. I had no idea you had to buy something else in addition to this over priced item. They both started yelling and all I could understand from it was to check our IDs. Things got worse when I asked what the deal is with buying something else In addition to what I was buying and the rude lady just started yelling for no reason. Holy smokes!! I can't believe this place has such low reviews! Yes, prices are a little higher than normal, but that's the definition of convenience! You dont go into CVS and buy a 2-liter for the same price as Stop & Shop, do you? Silly, silly people. Gordon's is not any better, either, so I am shocked at how many people recommended them over Dyer. 4 stars for price- Did any of you notice the nips at the cashier? TWO Bushmills airplane bottles for $3. You can't beat that anywhere else- I dare you to try at Gordon's. 5 stars for the service- I drink Gluten Free beer, and I prefer IPA- which is hard to find- and the two guys that work here often store an extra 6 pack in the cooler for me to ensure it's cold when I get there. As if this place couldn't get any worse. When this store was half the size it was bad. The prices were extreme, the selection was incredibly limited and often old and out of season, and the help were just there to ring the register (i.e. Ask no questions). Now there are new owners, they've expanded the store to twice its previous size and the selection has more than doubled. Yet this place is now somehow even worse than before. The owners have let go of most of the old staff and are the only ones you can deal with, but they know even less than the previous employees. The beer and wine has literally gotten so deep in old stock that you have to inspect everything before you buy it to make sure you're not buying last year's summer beer during this year's summer. Also the place is a dusty, disorganized mess, and the prices are just as high if not higher. And everyone is so damned rude!!! I was literally scolded for browsing, and again for looking at things too closely. Finally I was told I was 'taking too long' and they told me 'buy something or leave'. Well that's the last time i will ever shop here. Stay away. The beer and wine are often very old (not in a good way) and the bottles are caked in dust. First I have been going here since about 1996. The former owner Dennis is a solid guy. I'm not sure if Dana still works there, but again a solid guy. The new owner/manager in my opinion is a jackass. I tried to buy beer that he had marked on sale. He just kept saying 9.99 over and over again. I showed him the sticker. 9.99, I brought over another with the same sale sticker. 9.99, I brought them all over showing him the sticker. 9.99. Done. Take your beer and store. Just moved back to town after a while away and hey, it's really just fine... I can walk to it and there are more wine specials and it seems easier to move around now. It's a good spot to stop in, on foot or an easy pull-off of Mt. Auburn, as all of the regulars clearly know. They seem to kindly accommodate stragglers at closing time on Sundays when everyone forgets that we're apparently still a church state until it's too late (although as a former retail employee I can tell you this is not for sheer joy of it, so try not to abuse that privilege. The dude who works there (besides the owners) is really nice, geez. Maybe he just doesn't like you ;) (kidding. But maybe.) read more

The ONLY reason I give this place 2 stars is because my friends and I have made it a mission to get the guy who works there to be more friendly whenever we go in. We live across the street and though I agree that it's ridiculously overpriced and worth it to go to another location, the convenience cannot be beat if it's 10:45pm (open til 11, but doesn't mean they don't actually close at 10:50) and I am out of supplies. This place is terrible. Im a very positive and kind person with a smile on my face almost the whole day but I HATE going to this store. I only go coz they the only ones who have what I want. The guy who works there is ok but the owners(husband and wife) are always rude to me. I dont know if its racism or what their problem is. Best craft beer selection in the Watertown Square area. Always friendly service. There is a parking lot in the rear which is super helpful. Recently renovated they have more than doubled their size and selection. I find something new every time. If you are a serious craft beer drinker this is the place for you. This is an awful liquor store with so many better options within blocks. I used to shop here out of convenience in spite of the ridiculous high prices. In an effort to be somewhat green friendly I make a habit out of buying my 6 packs and returning the same 6 packs for recycling (certainly not for the 30 cents). Gary, the owner, started refusing my bottle deposit return which was surprising because this was just a local news story for being illegal. The Department of Environmental Protection requires stores that take a deposit to return the deposit. It's plain and simple. Gary told me to leave the store and not return. I certainly won't. I'm not into bashing small businesses but you don't get to operate outside the law. It's an awful store, rude service with outrageous prices anyway. read more

I've never written a review for a liquor store before, but this place deserves this review! They have an amazing collection of top shelf bourbons and whiskies and the staff is extremely knowledgable. Also, whenever my wife and I go to a restaurant and discover a wine that we really like we take a picture of the label. Unlike other liquor stores closer to us, this place almost always has the wine we are looking for. The couple of occasions when they did not have what we were looking for we presented the pictures of the wine to either Gary, the owner, or the staff; and the next visits they had it! If you are a whiskey and Bourbon lover like me, or are into phenomenal wines like my wife, then go to this place. read more
