    Waiting on vet tech!

Called the day before to get my bernedoodle Milo on for an ear problem. She told me to be there the next day between 8-9:00. Arrived at 8:45, was in the exam room 9:00. And they were extremely busy but efficient. They check and did a swab of his ears. He had bacteria and they treated him with care and patience. The veterinarian tech was really good to him did a great job! Sorry I didn't get her name. Vet was Busby, DVM.

Read my review..the response from the office manager speaks VOLUMES. "PARAPHRASING WE REGRET OUR SERVICES WEREN'T WHAT YOU EXPECTED ?"

Dykes and Summerale is owned by same corporation & not as a veterinaryclinic anymore. 20+ year customer and both places are so unprofessional now. I had horrible experience at both places. Dr. Dykes was one of the best. It's unfortunate this company is ruining his practice. Our pets are not a commodity and how I was treated with such disrespect. Summerdale quoted me 75.00 office visit, but when I checked out they changed the office visit price from 75 to 225. I asked for a credit, they said no, even after admitting they quoted me 75.00 office charge. That is not how you run a business. That is false advertising. Dykes staff refused my dog to be seen as a walk in, 10 minutes is all he needed after being sick for several days after Dykes Veterinary did surgery. He ended up with 7 teeth extracted, they didn't give me a courtesy call to tell me and told me his kidney levels were elevated yet still did surgery when I picked him up. That " little elevation" costed me 700.00 with 4 Rx's after and an emergency clinic charge that was originally 75.00 charge. They did not honor their word. You are a number and its a about $$$ now. How sad, Dr. Dykes doesn't deserve that, he would never run his practice that way. He has such compassion for his animals & respect for the local people in our community...I'm disgusted & so disappointed by the lack of treatment & respect for not only myself but my pet. Heard Dr.Langston is good, looking elsewhere for a clinic that is quality not quantity. Going to miss Dr. Dykes.

    He looks so cute..

So today has been the hardest day for us in a long time..our 15 year dashund had to be put down, we are devastated and I have cried continually all day.. I know he is not suffering and we are grateful for that but the pain is awful. He was the sweetest boy and I will miss him everyday of my life..the doc who helped us thru this was Dr. Dixon who gently explained everything which we were so grateful for her..I love this office everyone is so kind..

This is not your average veterinary clinic! They truly treat your babies like their own family! When I first got Chico as a tiny pup over a year ago & was in a store getting his supplies, I just mentioned needing to find a good vet for my new baby while talking the cashier, she referred me to Dykes. And when my Chico got into "something" which caused his face & eyes to swell, I called frantically knowing it was late, well after business hours. The on call doctor told me what to do & reassured me if it would make me more at ease, he would meet me at the clinic to check Chico out! Well, his advise did work & I didn't have to bring him in, but from then on, I knew without a doubt these were caring people! It is time for his checkup & since I have moved to Daphne, but my baby will only be going to Dykes!! Chico & Jennifer Honeycutt

They were fully booked and busy, so I was referred to Langston. I called and they were able to see him at 4pm. I went truly thinking he was fine. That they would look at him, prescribe some antibiotics, and I would have my baby back home and fine in a few hours. His test results were not good. He was very sick, more than he had been showing me. I was a wreck. I still am. I was alone with my mom on the phone with me. By 6pm that night I had lost my baby. I am now $1k in credit card debt. Which doesn't seem like much, but for me it is. The tests I had done on him I would do again. I wanted to know as much as I could before making the decision to end his life. The doctor was very clear on how expensive these tests were, for which I'm grateful. But there was a lot of upselling involved in that conversation. Not to mention the amount there was when it came to cremation decisions. I asked for one thing extra when they were taking him away to do his prints for me. I wanted his whiskers. They were long and pretty and such a big part of his personality. The nurse, who's name I can't remember, was kind and hugged me and promised to put his whiskers in with his prints. 2 months later and I have not received his prints or his whiskers. USPS can't do anything without a tracking number. I've called several times. Had them look in the back several times. Told them I need a tracking number but no one can provide it. Now, I am moving states in less than 2 weeks and still don't have them. They seem exasperated with me on the phone. I had to watch the cat I've had since I was 16 years old die on a cold table in a sterile room. My best friend through the hardest times of my young adult life. He took a piece of my soul with him that night and I just wanted that piece of him to keep. I wouldn't recommend this vet to anyone at this point.

They have always been…read morerespectful and helpful other than body shaming my overweight lab, I've always been willing to go back, until my last visit. The problem started when I made my appt. I adopted two rescue labs from an owner who could no longer afford to take care of them. I was all but told I could not bring them for wellness check and shots without previous records. I made the effort to get what shot records the previous owner did have. When we came for the appt the dogs were a little difficult to control and in hindsight I should have brought them separately but I just didn't think about it. I was thinking they needed up to date shot records so I did not get in trouble. So no staff volunteered to help with the unruly new rescues. But another customer volunteered to help me with the dogs until a room was available. After the checkup I waited at the desk for probably 20 minutes before I could check out. Dr Andersen was working on a treatment plan which is all well and good but I just needed to pay and put the dogs in the car. All the while while waiting to pay, the labs I'd rescued were unruly and the same customer was again trying to help me control the dogs who wanted to explore the front office, back office and say high to all the staff. Once I'd paid, Turns out one lab decided not to voluntarily get back in the car and created a rather chaotic scene for about 15 minutes. The dog had to be put in a muzzle which in all fairness cost about $5. Because the dog was so upset and actually kind of scary snarling at me his new owner along with snarling at staff who did come to help finally, I ask if I could have the muzzle, leave it on until I got back home. Then I could drive home safely. And get the dog to calm down. I was told by Dr Andersen that no if I wanted a muzzle I could go buy one at the store. I did offer to pay after all I wasn't expecting a handout but regardless the answer was no. Go buy my own muzzle. Again folks these are on Amazon and eBay all day every day $5. This visit to the vet visit just cost me over $300 so shouldn't have been an issue either way. Final straw. It Also turned out one of the labs had heart worms. In spite of the rudeness relating to the muzzle I decided to move forward with heart worm treatment which included 30 days of antibiotics. So called the same receptionist who said I needed previous vet records for the dogs to be seen, I called to get the antibiotics and was told Dr Andersen was off and I could pick up the medicine when she returned. There are at least 3 veterinarian's in this office. Problem was it was close to the holidays and I was scheduled to work the next several days so could another vet get the antibiotic script ready? Phone call ended and She was gonna check.....but she did say that I'd waited til now, so what difference would a few more days make. she called a few more days days later after Dr Andersen returned to tell me my script was ready. I was at work. So at this point I decided I needed a different practice to help me with these rescues. And a vet and a receptionist who have better customer service skills.

Very caring staff. They treat our elderly sick dog with kindness and compassion. Would highly…read morerecommend.

Lots of good reviews of this place are on Google but not much on Yelp. I rarely find time to write…read morereviews but as someone traveling who had a beloved pet fall very ill, I would like to unreservedly recommend Dr. Langston in particular and the clinic in general. If you're dealing with a pet emergency (or the possibility of one) on your trip and aren't sure where to go, go here during business hours - don't procrastinate and wait until the middle of the night, because you could pay 5-10 times more at the closest emergency clinic. Even if it turns out to be nothing, the FORTY DOLLAR (or slightly less, actually) office cost will provide peace of mind. A fairly long summary of our experience follows so I can illustrate why Dr. Langston has earned such glowing praise. My generally healthy bulldog suddenly manifested bloody diarrhea, and not slightly bloody. "Raspberry jam" is a common way this is described - sorry for the graphic image. It was the middle of the night and we were in Orange Beach. An emergency vet clinic in Pensacola was the closest option so after the first bloody and horrible accident inside the condo, we made the drive. I don't want to slam the other place too much so I won't name it but after arriving around midnight (again, NOT Magnolia, they weren't open yet) we waited over 2 hours to get a "treatment plan"/proposed bill that had over $1200 of billable items listed. Mostly diagnostic tests, only a couple of treatment items. Although a brief discussion of possibilities occurred, NO explanation of the differential diagnosis was offered. NONE. The vet disappeared and was basically unwilling to discuss anything further. We opted for a minimalist treatment approach, left and went home to wait it out. We came back after yet another very bloody stool was passed. This time it was about another 90 minutes to get to speak to the vet on duty (that comes to 3 hours of driving and, being charitable, 3 hours of waiting). I am not a vet or doctor but have some insider knowledge of these topics for professional reasons, know a bit about how good docs practice medicine, and felt confident my dog who had no history of liver issues or visible symptoms didn't need a full workup including liver enzymes, or a radiograph scan based on history etc. right off the bat. The biggest concern was shock so we left him there (we stayed in the parking lot) to receive IV fluids and antibiotics the rest of the night (all 2 hours of it) until he had to be discharged. We called several clinics at 7am and the most responsive was Magnolia. I had the records faxed over (they contained several inaccuracies, unfortunately), drove over, and sat down with Dr. Langston. She felt the wait and see approach with IV fluids and antibiotics was appropriate and more economical. I'm not just praising her because she agreed with me, however, but because she didn't even try to encourage us to pay for anything that wasn't strictly necessary. In fact my girlfriend wanted a workup on our other dog and Dr. Langston indicated it was probably not even needed. GOOD vets rely on the presentation of symptoms, medical history, and an assessment of tradeoffs of financial cost to the client versus the possible health cost/risk of neglecting to address each possible issue, in light of the likelihood of that issue at each phase of treatment. They don't use the shotgun approach or quadruple the cost of the first line approach simply to check for issues that are fairly unlikely to begin with. EXCELLENT vets can do all this while giving the patient a clear idea of what's going on, plus a timeline and and the rundown of each possible scenario and the respective approach that would be used, its costs and tradeoffs, etc. That's what we got over at Magnolia. I kind of hate to slam another clinic but this comparison is provided as an illustration of how much difference it can make having a great vet whose primary concern is practicing medicine in a way that benefits the patient even if it doesn't benefit their revenue as dramatically. If I didn't have a little bit of background knowledge I'd be out of a lot more money because I care greatly about my dog and emergencies require tough, fast decisions. That's why I recommend going with this excellent provider even if you aren't entirely sure it's needed, just to avoid getting stuck with inferior options after business hours. If I had brought him by Magnolia during daytime hours I also wouldn't have stayed up all night and been given the runaround. I should also add the interior is sleek and contemporary, staff is genuinely warm and professional, and the office visit and procedure costs are much lower than most clinics.
