Scam alert! They called demanding information and this woman was so insanely rude that we thought she was on drugs. Monique Jones, the ridiculously rude individual that called, hung up on us when we wouldn't provide information. We called back and Monique (we could tell it was her) gave us a FAKE NAME and started trying to scam us for information again. It was surreal. SCAM--- I just received a call form a women telling me that i have an account with Dakota bank that is in collections. I have never heard of the this bank and she could not or would not give me any information about it. Then she informs me that this was closed for non payment in 02/01/2006!!!! I informed her that this is not my account and she told me i was a lair, and that i needed to pay my bills. She was very rude, and unprofessional. She then wanted my current address, email. and all of my personal information, because all of the information they had was incorrect. They have me living on the wrong side of the country. Got several calls from this company regarding a debt for someone else. They were horribly unprofessional. Not only did they tell me the who owed them a debt, they revealed the amount owed and who the debt was owed to without even verifying if I was the person they were looking for. So much for shielding people from third party disclosure. Geez. Next, I inquire about them using an autodialer to call my cell phone. They admit to using a dialer, another big no-no with the laws that regulate their industry. That's a big TCPA claim when someone willfully admits they're using autodialing technology to call cell phones. It's codified in the United States Code. 47 U.S.C. 227b(3) that they can't do that unless they have prior express written consent. I hope anyone else who has been harassed by this company, holds them to task for their egregious behavior and disregard for the law. Oh, but it gets better. I called them back to directly speak with someone about why my phone number even got into their system. I end up speaking with a manager, Sean Corkery, and that's where things really went downhill. I asked a simple question: "how did my number get into your dialing system?" The response was less than satisfactory. He didn't know nor did he wish to find out. He told me he'd have to "get with his IT guy" and that "he didn't have the time" to address my concerns. That's unfortunate, since now we're going to court, over the TCPA claims. Can't give them negative so 1 is as low as I can give. Where should I start? Called me saying that I was a defendant in a class action lawsuit and they attempted to contact me 7times. I just purchased a condo 3mths ago and they claimed to have sent 4 letters to my new address lmbo. They then went on to say a debt that went to collections back in 2009 didn't actually go until 2012. But remember I just bought a condo. I decided to just have fun with them at this point. Agent said they would settle for 1/2 if I stroked a check then. My reply after I laughed was,"um that debt has been discharged." Agent went on to badger me saying if I sound intelligent and it's not his job to convince me I owe it. I got him now. So I tell him and it's not my job to accept what your telling me is true so what do we do now? I told him since our last conversation I double checked the municipal records of my county because if I was being sued the filing would have to be there. Guy hangs up I call him back and he hangs up. Now I just enjoy trolling him and it really makes my day. Please dont accept a bill collectors word. There are too many free credit apps to be gullible and your debts are all recorded on your municipal courts public web address. Ask for them to send you a letter of responsibility. Which states when they secured the debt. All debt collectors have 7days after that to produce the letter. It's not about if you do or don't owe a debt its whether or not you are now legally obligated to pay it back due to the statute of limitations. These people are crazy I checked all of my credit scores my credit score is a 735. I checked Credit Karma, Experian, Equalfax, I went through a depth solution place about 10 years ago gave them all of my outstanding debts and pay them all off in three years. Now here I get this phone 10 years later call telling me I owe $906 plus for an account I have no idea what they're talking about. They have the nerve to give me options of what to pay I would not give them a penny, these are some fraudulent people I know I don't owe any debt, don't even own a credit card. This "in your face" threatening tactic, third party debt collecting company tried to tell me that I owed $17,000 to a credit card that was listed by an address in California dating back to 2010. Honestly, if I had a credit card for $17,000 I would know about it, and I certainly can not afford to live in California. (I live in the midwest) When I tried to ascertain information about the alleged debt, the collecting agent became verbally combative, interrupting me and refused to provide any information about the alleged debt. I never even heard of the name of the bank she claimed the debt to be for, nor could she provide any information about the lending institution itself. When I clarified the statute of limitations on ANY alleged credit card debt in the U.S. is limited to seven years, she became even more verbally irate. By the time I said the words "Fair Debt Collecting Practice Act" she hung up without notice. There are legitimate, professional debt collecting agencies with valid debts. Scum of the Earth. Calls from randomly generated fake numbers in what ever state you are in. Claims you owe a debt way past the statue of limitations 10 and 20 year old debts for companies that are not even in business or after old medical bill insurance covered. If you listen closely you can hear them quickly blab the part where "it can not be reported to credit or sued for this debt" I have blocked 13 numbers on a cell and they just generate a new fake one. Almost every call is from an Indian with a heavy accent using names like "Tom" and "Lily Gordon". The last one told me "I'm never going away". The first thing to notice on these scams are the fake number then the fake name. Let's face it....no one wants to leave a review for a debt collector. I'm on here BECAUSE of the reviews posted against them. 1) They're not a scam; they're not fake. 2) I've never been harassed over the phone by them so if you have, I kind of wonder what words were exchanged to get their associate to speak to you in such manner. Those who answer the calls are most likely not the ones who called you & they definitely don't deserve to be disrespected. 3) If they're contacting you about a debt that you are so sure you do not have you better be checking your credit report once or two times a year to make sure you are not mistaken for someone else OR that you're not a victim of fraud. I've heard stories of people who are named after someone else and they've gotten derogatory marks by mistake because of it. I'm sure that this company is not expecting a five star rating because of what they do, but just know that they are not a phony company. If they're contacting you and you know for sure they are mistaken I highly suggest you figure out how to dispute it. Mistakes happen and false charges CAN be disputed. Now...yes, I have a derogatory mark in my name. I did a lot of moving around & finally stayed at my latest address long enough for them to track me down. They called me ONCE and the gal that called left a nice voicemail. No threats, no serving notice harassment, just a simple message for me to call someone back so that they can help me with a settlement. You can pay online or call. I couldn't figure out how to go about it online so I called in & they were nice & helpful. I took the payment option to where I could pay in increments and I'm on my last of three. Every charge has a receipt sent to me via email. I obviously knew they weren't fake when they were taking my payment because they repeat EVERYTHING; the company you owe debt to, the company that bought your debt & who they are. They repeat the form of payment & amount then confirm your approval before proceeding because they have a recorded system meant to protect them should you decide to dispute your charges. Re. many of the other reviews here, of course check to make sure there hasn't been a mistake if they're contacting you about an old debt you don't remember or are sure you never had. Lady name Sheila answered and told me to give her my SSN I declined and ask what is all this about she said they will call me back and hang up. At 10:45 and that numbers 816-206-2536 call my wife and asking for me. The bank also has been closed for over two years. I have filed reports with the State Attorney in my state, the FTC and the BBB in both of their states.
