Check back often for their 30% extra off sale items, the employees don't know when it is so you have to go back periodically!

They have a super tiny home section at the very back of the store, but the rest is fashion. I did not find a wreath, and the home selection was very sparse and limited. For a Saturday afternoon, there were only a few shoppers in the store. If your already in the mall. definitely poke around Marshalls, but if you want a greater selection, skip it and go to Winners or Homesense on the Merivale strip.

So this is the Marshalls in Merivale Mall. It's the second Marshalls that opened in Ottawa, the…read morefirst being at Trainyards (and the third recently opened at South Keys). It's my least favourite of all the Marshalls because selection is not great and they don't carry that many cool brands. That being said, I love all Marshalls so I still shop here. I have to admit that I was very surprised that Marshalls opened up in Merivale Mall. Merivale Mall is such a sad little mall in desperate need of revitalization. It's definitely cooler now that Marshalls is there, but I think it's still pretty lame (but this is not a review of Merivale Mall, so let's get back to Marshalls). Marshalls like Winners and other stores in the states like TJ Maxx and Ross Dress for Less, carries random brands in random styles and random sizes. I love this kind of shopping. It's like a treasure hunt. I don't like going into a store and there are racks of the same item arranged in ascending sizes 0-18, or the same shirt in 4 different colours stacked side by side. Boring!! I like the rush of finding an unusual piece that I haven't seen anywhere else and there's only one in the store and it's my size! Hurray! So this particular location doesn't have a "Red Carpet" section like Trainyards does. So no luxury brands like Moschino, Ferragamo or Fendi. They do have a "Contemporary Designers" section, so you'll see 7 for All Mankind, Paige, and brands of that ilk. And they regularly carry Tahari, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, etc. I love going to Marshalls for the European and Australian brands that they carry. Unfortunately, this location doesn't carry as many of them. Their shoe section is also relatively small (and they rarely carry size 5). Their handbag section is also not great, in my opinion. They carry lots of "regular bags" nothing quirky or fun, no purses shaped like a milk carton or a rotary telephone, lol. Although I think this last statement says more about me than the store, haha. Like all Marshalls, this store is big and bright. Staff are pleasant. While it's not my favourite Marshalls, it's still one of my favourite stores.

Marshalls - Look at this Vince dress, retailed for $215 and on sale at Marshalls for $26. Sadly too big for me :(

Unique Accessories is a little store with some interesting items. They sell mainly hats,…read morefascinators, and costume jewelry. Their hats are cool, but I wouldn't say all that unique. The styles and quality are similar to Parkhurst hats. The fascinators are pretty but honestly, I've purchased the exact same fascinators on eBay for a quarter of the price. However, at the store you get them right away, while on eBay you have to wait for shipping. I never need a last minute fascinator, so I'm cool with paying less and waiting for shipping. I'm not a huge fan of costume jewelry, but if you are, you might find some statement pieces here. They do have some quirky handbags, like one shaped like a teapot or a car. However, the prices are really high for what I feel is not that great quality. They have scarves, broaches, and other accessories too. The store is a bit on the small side but it's full of merchandise, so it does look a little crowded. A nice place to poke around. I've only ever made purchases here during their sales. I find the regular prices too high for the quality.

There…read moreare so few stores that have hats and fascinators in stock, this place is a real gem to have in Ottawa. I am very much a hat person and Must try things on before buying them - shape and size are a big part of it. While I am all over a good deal, I am also a big believer in "you get what you pay for" and if it's something you want to keep longterm, make it an investment. That said, I don't find the prices in this store unreasonable. My whole family is from the UK (I'm the Only Canadian) so hats come with the territory. Whenever we would cross the pond, picking up a good hat was always part of the trip, and let me tell you, they are Expensive! Unique Accessories offers fun hats and fascinators for a relatively decent price, and they are quite good quality - everything I have so far has stood up to the elements and become permanent pieces in my closet. The only other real hat store I have found is a tiny boutique in an office building in the market, where the Milliner makes everything from scratch and is therefor quite pricey (but again, you really get what you pay for - they are stunning) - I believe Mrs. Trudeau shops there too. As for the rest of the glitter and bling, it's quite fun and very colourful, but I must admit, I have only ever purchased headpieces. I will certainly be back, and I'm looking for an event to showcase my most recent acquisition!

They carry a huge selection of Sympli pieces in lots of styles and colours (I personally am not a huge fan of this brand, but I do see the appeal of pieces that pack well (i.e. don't wrinkle and fold down to nearly nothing) and you can mix and match). Their clothing aesthetic I find very similar to Marianne's in Westgate and Shepherd's at Trainyards. So, yes, perhaps catering to let's just say women who would subscribe to magazines like More, or Zoomer. Their kitschy items are fun and cute. They have fridge magnets that say things like "a clean house is a sign of a wasted life," or "housecleaning never killed anyone, but why take the chance?" I hate household chores, so I can relate to these sentiments, haha. They have luggage tags shaped like fashionable shoes, by Fluff. They have quirky handbags shaped like unusual items, like one by Betsey Johnson shaped like an ice cream cone. I love kitsch and I love quirky, so I like looking at the accessories here. They also have a lot of things (greeting cards, magnets, napkins, books, etc.) that divorcees would find funny. They also carry costume jewelry. Lots of statement pieces. A great place to pick up something for that wild eccentric aunt you have, lol.

I have listed it under women's fashion because the back half of the store is devoted to very glamourous and fabulous women's (not girl's) clothes. The front half is a collection of kitschy items targeted to women who are more "mature" and may or may not be divorced. There were fridge magnets, greeting cards, aprons and oven mitts sporting saucy and witty slogans. There were also novelty luggage tags, divorce guides and books offering advice for those over 40 and 50. They even had tables with high-heeled legs! It was a hoot to hang out there for a while, but it is definitely aimed at a specific demographic of which I am not really a member.

Maybe from a long necklace to a short one, or by reshaping a part. I went with a friend and she noticed pieces by a couple of her previous art teachers here and was excited. The highlight for me was definitely the jewelry. There were some really large striking pieces that would be totally unique to wear to an event. Of course they are a bit pricey, but it's art. The woman working in the store was really helpful and gave us a lot of additional information on the jewelry and how it could be changed, about the artists etc. She noticed my earrings and that they were by one of the artists also. This is one place I will visit soon when I have a special event to find accesories for!
