Being the only private karaoke facility in Hamilton, TJ King Karaoke does not fail to let you down…read morein every aspect. Private karaoke booths can be fun, boisterous and entertaining ways to spend an evening with friends. Many offer great drinks, filling food and vast song lists for you and your group to whittle away the hours before or after a night out on the town. TJKK is not one of these facilities. I visited TJKK over the fall and I have a number of complaints about this dump. 1. Price - Most private karaoke joints charge by the size of the booth per hour. For example a small booth fitting up to 6 people is $20/hr and a medium booth for up to 12 people is $30/hr., etc. Not at TJ's. It's $20 per PERSON per hour. That's right, they charge you per person every hour no matter how large the booth you occupy. So treating my friends to a couple of hours of karaoke cost me close to $300, where it would have been $60 anywhere else. This doesn't even include the luke warm domestic beer at $8 a bottle. 2. Food - After half an hour of karaoke, my friends and I began to get hungry. So we tried to order some food. We were promptly told that the kitchen was closed... at 7:30pm. Despite advertising chicken fingers, fries and onion rings, the only food available were snack packs of chips and candy at outrageous prices. We weren't looking for pasta dinners or seafood platters, but they could have had a menu of bar food that goes well with alcohol. 3. Equipment - Private karaoke facilities usually boast state-of-the-art equipment with the latest software, HD karaoke videos, mood lighting and some places even offer video games or movies in case singing becomes tiresome. TJKK will offer you broken remotes, the same 4 videos that play in a loop as background to your music and an obnoxious disco light. 4. Service and atmosphere - TJKK is downright depressing. A moldy bathroom, out-of-sight bar in the back and dingy karaoke booths with poor ventilation. I've been to worse places, but none that haven't made up for their lack of maintenance with outstanding phone to front of desk service. TJKK has no booth phones to allow you to call for service, so be prepared to wait at the desk to order a drink while the attendant fumbles around in the back, doing god knows what for five minutes. All in all, a poor choice for a private karaoke experience. You're better off venturing off to Toronto for nearby private karaoke booths or investing in your own karaoke rig. TJ King Karaoke is worthy of two stars. One star for simply existing and another for not burning down while I was there.

The cost is $6 per person/hr, which is reasonable, and we've done parties of 3 all the way up to about 20. I don't believe they actually serve cooked food, but there are a few snacks available. If u want something swanky, this isnt your spot. The furniture is old but sturdy, the decorations are sparse, and the service is one dude outside, but the machines work and there's always space.

If I'm going to be in downtown Toronto and I'm going to have a big group, I always pick Bar+ if they're available on the day I'm looking for (and if it's not a Monday -- they're closed on Mondays which I found out by just trying to roll up to the spot!) Bar+ makes group karaoke easy because they have various sizes of rooms, a wide selection of songs (with some recent songs too!) If you're really worried about song choices, there's an app you can download to your phone in which you can browse their entire catalogue whether you're there or not. Bonus, the app also acts as a way to have more than 1 device to add songs into the queue once you're in a room! PRO TIP: if the song listed has the "MTV" tag, it usually. means it's literally just the music video with no lyrics. The other reason Bar+ makes group karaoke easy is that you can go out to the bar to order your own alcohol, or order bottles (of soju) to bring into the room to share, and you pay each time you go out to the bar. One thing to call out -- DON'T throw your bottles into the trash cans in the rooms! The bottles get collected by the staff for recycling! I think there's a service button on the same tablet you input your songs, but I'm pretty sure you can also go out to the bar and ask them to collect empty bottles.

Edited a minute ago New…read moreUpon entering the establishment, the security guard took our IDs and he was holding a high-alcohol content beer, Hayburner, in one hand, and holding our ID's with the other. He seemed angry when my brother asked if our ID's had to be scanned, and really seemed to snap at my brother, but we shrugged it off and he scanned them and we went on with our night. Throughout the night, the security guard continued drinking these Hayburners. My brother and I were enjoying our evening, had not once had any issue with another patron or the bar, and we were in mid-conversation about piano, when I felt the guard standing behind me. He was just standing behind me, staring my brother down. It was a scary feeling. My brother, who has worked in the industry for 20 years, asked if everything was okay. The security guard approached my brother and started pushing him saying "Everything is okay with me is everything okay with you??" And my brother was walking backwards trying to de-escalate this seemingly intoxicated security guard. That's when I watched him grab my brother by both shoulders and push him backwards across the entire length of the bar, knocking him into people and objects, eventually pushing him out of the door. He even grabbed another guy and shoved him so hard against the wall that that guys beer went flying and he had purple and blue bruises from his grab. I desperately tried for the other woman security guard to understand he had just been assaulted and had done nothing wrong. She seemed to nod like she had seen this before, but wasn't going to do anything about it. My sister and I were astounded at the actions of this man. That's when he shoved me, a mid thirties woman not even half his size. Even after we were walking away from the bar, this security guard stood outside yelling towards us that he, direct quote, was going to "break our f***ng necks". This is negligence on the bar's behalf, for allowing an intoxicated security guard to a$$ault patrons. We immediately filed a police report, and they requested the video footage from the bar. The bar refused to provide any of the footage. Usually, bars who have nothing to hide are quick to comply- which was very telling in this case. We were never once asked to leave. We were just blind-sighted. I immediately called the bar after the incident and one of the owners, Amanda, who was tending the bar and witnessed the entire thing, cheerfully answered the phone. She had served my brother with no issue. I let her know her security guard had just assaulted us, and she said "ok?" And nothing further. This place does not give a rip about anyone's safety, especially not women's. It has been weeks and I'm still recovering from the pain of this night. Beware for your safety, women. I did what I could, but their actions will likely result in someone getting seriously hurt.

Not great for English songs…read more The Good - large venue, lotsa rooms - clean - packages, instead of per hour, are decently priced if you have at least 6+ ppl! - alcoholic drinks are included in the credit - servers did respond to bell in a reasonable manner - servers were pretty polite, accommodating when splitting the bill The Not-So-Good - selection of English songs aren't great, they didn't even have Hall & Oates listed! - if you select the YouTube videos, there aren't any lyrics, so it's kinda pointless. Some vids didn't even load! - not a lot of food options, lotsa fried/food that can be cooked quickly - slow-ish service. Took quite some time for the first round of drinks/food to arrive - food is mediocre. The fried chicken wings are pretty much tasteless - some iced drinks weren't great, too chunky/sweet. Bubble tea is probably from a powdered mix, had to add water 'cause it was waaay too sweet - since it's a package, prices esp on food/bottles is pretty overpriced, so you hafta order wisely - kareoke system wasn't super user-friendly - 15% gratuity was automatically included in the bill. So you'll be paying that even if the service is slow &/or sucks If you're in the mood for kareoke, in English, I'm sure there are better options in the City! High Zone is OK, but go in a group of at least 6ppl 'cause it's $200/3 hours, so it's better value.
