My husband and I have been taking our time remodeling our home and it was finally time to tackle the master bathroom. We wanted to make our shower bigger and replace our built-in tub for a stand alone tub. We contacted 3 companies for an estimate. One contractor flaked and called the morning of the appointment saying he couldn't make it. He suggested we do a zoom consultation. When I asked how he would get the measurements, he said it was "just" a bathroom and he didn't intend on doing sketches anyways. His condescension made me cancel everything with him. The second contractors was nice, but had a high estimate, then suggested we purchase low end materials to save on the cost. He gave us the estimate right away, then pressured us to accept it right then. He offered a $1K discount if we agreed before he left, but what's $1K on a $32K price tag,so we told him we had 1 more contractor to meet with. And then there was Mr. Luis. He came in with a smile, removed his shoes and actually listened to all my concerns about my current bathroom and my dreams about my future one. He took his measurements and then repeated back the things I said I really wanted. There was no pressure and he said he would contact me in a few days with an estimate. It took him about 4 days to get back to me. Not only was his estimate significantly less,but it also came with a computer generated rendition of my bathroom space from multiple angles. I had sent him some tile patterns I liked, and he had them in the image, so I could really visualize my new bathroom. He did the rendition 2 more times with different tile patterns I sent him to help me choose the one I really liked. I also want to note that he could've easily charged more because I told him I thought it was going to cost $40K when he came to do the estimate,but he still gave me his honest price. We set a date for work to start after I paid a 33% deposit. His team, led by Mr. Wilson, were punctual and really respected my home. They draped wherever they needed to walk and they walled off my bedroom with plastic so dust and debris wouldn't get all over my living space. Mr. Wilson answered all my questions and kept me updated on everything being done each day. He assisted me in buying some of my products. His team kept everything very tidy when they left each day. He was a dream from start to finish. The 2nd deposit was due when the tile install began. Mr. Carlos did all of the tiling himself. He gave his professional opinion about the tile I chose for the shower floor, which led me to use the same tile as the shower walls and honestly, I like it better. The bathroom was completed in 2 weeks. The last deposit is due upon completion. When all the work was done, they polished and cleaned the entire bathroom AND several surfaces in my bedroom. They wiped down and dusted the TV stand and fireplace (both in the sitting area outside of the bathroom). They had only gotten a small amount of dust on them from the construction, so I just planned to dust when they were finished,but they did it for me without me asking. They also wiped down the bannister as they exited. As a mom of 3 kids under 5, I appreciated that more than they know. I've had people work in my house before who were neat, but I have never had a team clean up after themselves as thoroughly as this one. I'd also like to mention his office manager, Ms. Gigi, handled the administrative side seamlessly. She also answered all of my emails promptly. Since Luis is not taking my phone calls, I will tell you the story. Two days after my floors were finished, I got a call from Bank of America. One of their customers had tried to pass two checks stolen from my house made out to Luis's brother, Wilson. It was second party deposit, the second signature being the person that stole the checks. Wilson had not been in my house for 2 weeks and I trust him, he is an honest man. I got a copy of the checks and the signature was not Wilson's. As the final part of a kitchen and floor remodel, three men had done the floors and finished 2 days before the checks were passed. One of the men did not took like he was mentally all there. When I told Luis that I believed that one of the men had stolen the checks and made them out to Wilson and then signed them, he refused to believe me. He was even a little arrogant that I suggest such a thing. I reported the attempted theft to the police, and I have the recording from the Bank of America fraud division. Luis would not give me the names of the floor mechanics; the lead person was a friend of his. If you do business with E&L, I suggest you check IDs and work status for anyone that comes in your house. The work was fine but the way this was handled was unprofessional. I ran into Wilson at Capital One Bank he said he wanted to clear his name. I suggested Luis run background checks on the contractors he used and he rejected that idea. I only lost $60 but I wasted hours of time with the banks and the police trying to get this resolved. read more

Logically if you make an appointment you should probably call the customer to make sure that they are available before making the commute. The first time they came to my house I was home and they never attempted to call me, text or anything to say they were at the door (if they were). Second time I wasn't able to make it in time. We are very happy with our kitchen renovation completed with E&L in fall 2024. They provided detailed plans, supplier contacts, and an accurate estimate in advance. If you are looking for a high quality, professional, dependable home improvement company, with very reasonable prices, look no further than E & L Home Improvement. They did the complete renovation of our kitchen and a bathroom in the beginning of 2023 and we couldn't be more pleased with the experience or the result. We took quotes from two contractors. The first quote was shockingly high, which made E & L's almost half less bid very reasonable. The glowing recommendation from a neighbor made choosing E & L an easy decision. From day one, I was very pleased with that choice. Luis, the owner, talked with the designer I was working with and me to understand the work that was needed and break it down into tasks that were listed in the contract. We had already made all the design decisions and placed all the necessary orders with companies my designer has worked with for 20 years. We agreed on a start date based on when supplies would be in and on everyone's schedule. Luis was the coordinator of the work, Wilson was the main worker, with the others rotating in and out depending on the task. I always knew the time they were coming each morning and the only gaps in work was if there was an unexpected supply issue (not their fault). When they arrived, they always put down canvas drop cloths to protect flooring. When needed, they put up plastic and used machinery to keep dust, etc from going everywhere. They always cleaned up at the end of the day. Everyone in this company was a joy to work with, always positive, hard working, professional and willing to listen to any concerns/other tasks that came up and to come up with good solutions. I liked the way they worked - i.e., they gave me a $ amount as an allowance, to pick what fixtures, tiling and other items I wanted. I found their allowances were, for the most part, right on target. I only had a couple of items where I wanted something more expensive (and I paid the difference). Once we picked everything out - the work started. I felt every person from E&L who came into my house was extremely personable, professional and CLEAN! They did an awesome job every day of cleaning up after they were done for the day. It was really appreciated. The quality of work was excellent, and for the most part - things ran very smoothly. Based on our experience, we cannot recommend E&L LLC due to their team's lack of professionalism with workspace preparation and client interaction, routine inability to perform tasks to industry standard, and a recurring unwillingness to fix their substandard work when called out on it. Some highlights from our master bathroom renovation for prospective customers to contemplate: * E&L did not use a self-leveling tile spacer system when laying the floor tiles. This resulted in the entire bathroom floor being completely unlevel and unwalkable without risk of injury. The team refused to re-tile the entire floor and instead only replaced the most egregiously uneven tiles, but the floor still has noticeable issues. * The team failed to lay the walls tiles plumb on the shower walls, resulting in a slight bowing out as the tile runs end. * E&L's team did not use a laser level when tiling the shower niche, resulting in noticeably crooked tiles, which had to be redone. * The team broke a wall tile while installing the shower enclosure. Instead of fixing it or alerting us, they covered up the damage with caulk to try to hide it, despite it being still quite visible. * The team broke the new door we had purchased for the bathroom. After trying unsuccessfully to hide the damage, they ended up having to buy a new one. * E&L's team failed to install the shower control valve cartridge correctly, resulting in a reversed water flow where hot was cold and cold was hot. The owner, Luis, refused to believe his team could have done wrong and demanded we buy a replacement cartridge, but he was immediately proven incorrect when a team member checked the work and discovered the incorrect installation (which was thankfully easy to fix). * During painting, the team displayed notable disregard to the fixtures in the bathroom, and had to be asked several times to cover the fixtures and use painter's tape to ensure straight lines around the trim. * E&L's team failed to ensure the sink faucet's inlet pipes were connected correctly, resulting in a slow leak that went undetected for weeks. After fixing the leak, the team then refused to repaint the wall where the sink vanity had to be removed to prevent further water damage. When the team contacted the owner, Luis, to discuss the request, he called the female client a "f***ing b*tch" in Spanish while on speaker phone to his team, without realizing that the Spanish-fluent client could hear and understand him. We could sadly list more examples of mistakes and issues with the work done. E&L had a lower quote than a couple other contractors we contacted, but the lack of professionalism was simply not worth the small savings in cost. One of the few bright spots during the renovation was Gigi in the front office, who is great and a pleasure to work with and speak to. We certainly wish we had ended up with additional positive things to say. read more
