This is a review that is biased more on good service than the course, conditions, or golf carts. I had a stressful week both at work and with Doctor's office visits that did not bring cheery news. I knew a round of golf would help clear my mind. I understand that there are now more ways than ever to book a round of golf. I happened to use Duncan Golf Management's direct site. However, when I showed up late Saturday to claim my tee time at Eagle Valley East my reservation was nowhere to be found. I retrieved my cell phone from the car. Low and behold I had mistakenly made the reservation for Friday, not Saturday. Neither of the 2 men working in the Pro Shop batted an eye and said we will get you on, no worries. Thank you to both of them and thank you to DGM for having a service minded policy that allowed them to. Thanks again, Local Golfer The course is dry but well groomed, easy to play, a bit hard to map out for first timers, and the carts are in average condition for local courses. read more

I would've given this course 4 even 5 stars if not for the incredibly difficult "rough". My favorite of this course is the back 9 where you play along The hills -stunning ! The fairways and greens are perfectly manicured and cut, however an extremely tough rough condition awaits you- Should you miss the fairway even a couple of inches. There is no buffer from the fairway to the Rough! it immediately transitions to 4 to 6 inch thick and healthy grass. The ball literally disappears. The group I played with must've lost a few balls each-even though we knew the location where our ball ended up. I am a 12 handicap and had a tough time here. My drive were not all perfect today and I paid the price, even when my drive was to slightly rolled off the fairway. I will definitely play here again, but with a completely different strategy . I will simply take my lumps and punch the ball back into the fairway. Attempt to reach the green from this rough will end up poorly, except for very low handicappers and only the best ball striking golfers . Eagle Valley ... please reduce the 1st cut so the mediocre golfers like me. Can survive a golf round there! read more

Brought my adult kids for a fun round of golf. I played by myself, they played a scramble to keep up play. They let several two somes go through so people could play at their speed. In doing so, the course gave them a slow play warning. Bummer thing is they are playing within their recommended time. Junk course, worse staff. Don't play here. 95 deg..not a drop of water on the course or drink cart. Posted " no outside beverages or food permitted". Came in around 6:30pm and the place was locked up tight!! West Golf course is OK and definitely worth the price. But NO WATER anywhere!!! We brought our own water but ran out by the 6th hole assuming they HAD to have water or a cart!!! read more

After a few months of not golfing at the course or the driving range, it's good to get in a practice round before heading to a nice course. My wife and I don't want to hit little dinkers that bounce to the right or knock bunker shots onto the next tee box at an expensive course. At times like this, it's helps to get in a practice round. Eagle Valley Golf Course is a great practice round course. There are not many features on the holes except for a tee and a green. Plus, it's $20/person with a cart for twilight golf. It doesn't get cheaper than that. We would've had a delightful afternoon on the course hitting 8's and 9's if it wasn't for the ferocious wind. It was by far the windiest round of golf I had ever experienced. It was a struggle to stand and look down the fairway. We had to strategically park that cart to block the wind. Otherwise, the person waiting in the cart would be pummeled by wind gusts. I wanted to give the course a break and say that we were there on a bad day. However, the numerous trees on the course, bent over after years of strong winds, indicated the opposite. The mountain ranges on the eastern side of the valley seemed to funnel the wind directly across the golf course. If you bring a hat, make sure you can tighten it down! read more

It should be noted that I would give drastically different ratings to the East and the West course. The East course is flat, with lots of water hazards, and links style course. The West has elevation and a lot of character and sage brush. The course has improved under the management of Duncan Golf Management. I expect to see some improvements now that they have been managing it for more than a full season. Take the drive. Enjoy the rates. And bring plenty of balls. read more

The course is fun but the guy in the pro shop is an absolute ass. He is rude and impersonal and I can't believe they let him keep working there. As I long as he is there me and my golfing buddies will never visit that course again. read more

I played here with a friend of mine on the 15th. Since it was a Monday we didn't think it would be too crowded. We arrived at 9 for a 9:52AM (odd time, yes, I agree) tee time. Check in was easy and we were advised they were on a frost delay. No biggie. Grabbed a few buckets of balls and hit the driving range. Still on a delay so we hit the putting green. Went to check in at the first hole around 10:15 and the Marshall got us going right away. I haven't golfed in 10 or so years, and I was never amazing back then, so I was little nervous being in front of a tournament group. We were joined by another pair of golfers and we all got going. The East course is less challenging than the West and has a nice layout. We made it to about the 7th hole before the Marshall asked if we wanted to start back at hole one and not have pressure from the tournament group behind us. We obliged, grabbed our free lunch and started back at hole one. Unfortunately due to an afternoon engagement we didn't get to play a full round when we started over. We made it to the 5th hole this time before we had to take off. All in all, $30 each for a golf cart, a round of golf (more if we had been able to stay) and a free lunch (sandwhich - turkey, roast beef or ham - and a bag of chips) is awesome. The drive out there is nice and the Marshall was extremely gracious and supportive of my beginner status! I'll definitely be back soon! read more

Rating is for BOTH courses. Condition and difficulty; 3/5 Both courses are in okay shape, and have been for a year now since I have been playing. Why not 4 or 5 stars? The staff and course management. There is never a first tee starter and EVERYTIME I book a tee time it is always given to a few groups. I will show up in the first tee 10 minutes prior to my time and will have 3 groups there with me. I always ask for everyone's tee times and most are there an hour early. I would keep playing here but I never finish an entire round so I might as well drive somewhere else who can afford the proper staff. All you need to do is notify every golfer to wait until they are "called" up to the first tee. I watch people come off 18 and immediately cut in front of me and take my tee time. read more

This review is for the West course which I was advised from a starter at another course is the nicer of the two tracks at Eagle Valley. The West course is links style and plays through the hills on the back nine. The course was in good shape - greens were so true and speed medium. The sand traps aren't deep here but the course was still challenging. Hit your ball straight here or you'll have a hell of a time finding it here with all the shrubs! Starter and check in was a breeze and they even let me tee off earlier which is always a plus. I'd recommend Eagle Valley West course due to the layout, up keep and reasonable prices. read more

Awesome people. Fun golf from beginner to advanced. Pace of play is excellent and both Superintendent and Director of Golf are superstars.

We played the "West" course which is more tucked into the hillside, thus more contours and elevation changes, thus a more challenging round, thus more cussing, thus more drinking, thus more thankful of the efficiency of the beer-cart girl. Honestly, this course is difficult, but if you know what your shots look like, then you can take pride in creating your shots here. If you spray your shots all over the place, not knowing where the next one will end up, then you will get eaten up here. From tee box, to fairway, to green, there often is a forced carry over either desert rocks or reptile inhabited sage brush. I found the course design quite impressive as there were the perfect flow from difficult to straight forward, long to short. It was like a roller coaster ride. But for a challenging course, this one fit my eye, as I only lost one ball for the round. Scoring is another issue though cuz you need to have better knowledge of the course, but that's anywhere. Great views of the Carson City Valley and the surrounding mountains made for a relaxing round. What made it not so relaxing was the front 9 was directly above a rifle range. A little nerving trying to concentrate on a shot with the hum of gunfire from a distance. But what the hell, just crack open another beer, hit the shot and yell "yeeee haaaaw", were in Nevada after all. Golf, wild west style. *blows imaginary smoke from pistol finger* read more

I've played at this course for 7 years plus. I've been a pass holder for 5 years. Gone through thick and thin with a variety of issues. Course has now been taken over by new management company who seems to be making improvements. All new golf carts which is great. Overall course conditions are improving weekly. As always the staff is super polite and helpful. This is an update. Now in mid September the golf course is in fabulous condition. The greens are as good as anywhere in the area. Between the great course conditions and the super friendly staff it is a pleasure to go the golf course. read more

The only positive is the price. They water with "effluent" reclaimed waste water. There are pools of effluent everywhere and the sand traps are mostly full of it also. The smell is unbearable at times. If you hit your ball in one you don't want it back. My wife is very new to the game so we requested the last tee time so we would not be rushed. We still had multiple groups pushing and rushing us (some of them very rude) and we had NO response from the pro shop or manager. Totally unprofessional and no pride in the property or the service. Do not waste your money. I teed of at 12:30pm on a Saturday afternoon. Course was decent until I got to the 5th hole. I pull up to the tee box on the par 3. The groundskeeper is driving towards the green and decided to mow it. I waited 10 minutes for him to mow the green. They took off and I hit my tee shot. By the time I made it to the 6th holes tee box....they were mowing the tee box! I once again waited. He pulled behind the tee box and waved for me to shoot. He then crept behind me the entire hole until I gave up on this golf course. Nothing is more enjoyable then hearing a lawn mower 30 ft behind you pushing your pace of play. read more

Charging $45 a round while course is all dug up with holes closed and cart paths all dug up is disgusting! Sand traps not even sand just dirt. Pro shop employee rude and should let players know that when booking tee time. This course is a disgrace. read more

Overall,I really like this course. I personally like the West course better than the East; a lot of variety and does challenge you. The East is easier and costs less, and it does serve its purpose. Both courses are fantastic values, so anyone who complains about them not being the same quality as a $100 course needs to get in touch with reality. For around $30-$40 I play them every time I'm in the area. My biggest complaint mirrors the reviewer who said the range closed an hour earlier than promised; my foursome got LOCKED IN THE PARKING LOT! It was at least an hour and a half before sundown, and well before we were told the course closed. We scrambled around the course and found the LAST employee just before he left. He had to call someone else that had a key to come back and unlock the gate so we could get our car out. I don't know if its a disconnect between the opening crew and closing crew, or if there's no management there at closing and all the teenage staff just wants to take off. I've just never seen a course close so early with customers still there, in the summer, with plenty of daylight left. Like I said, in spite of that, I'll still go back. Too good of a deal, and too fun of a course to pass up. read more

I'll probably be sorry saying this as I like the quiet afternoons on this course, but waaaayyyy too many golfers come to the Reno-Lake Tahoe area and head straight to a resort-type course. Bad. Start a round here. The East course is the perfect course to grip it & rip it. Learn how your clubs may change with altitude, how the greens maybe different than your home course and then you may decide that something different means playing the West course. This is for the restaurant. If you are a golfer you need to try this place but if you are not a golfer, YOU GOTTA try this place. It is associated with the golf course but the food is 5-star easily. It's very reasonably priced but the taste is that of places that charge twice or three times. Great value and the staff treats you like family. Their service is Thursday through Saturday. You get what you pay for. Yes the prices are decent and for the most part the two courses are kept up, but theres so much room to improve there. Improvements such as re-paving the cart paths so there not so bumpy. Putting visable distance markers on the west course, most of the paint or plastic markers for distance's are gone or broken. I know this isn't a big one for most people, but it would be nice, But redo the inside of the club house, it still has the same old pictures and same decor, redo the pro shop , bar and dining area, its so dark in that place!! Now it is nice because there is two courses, the East and West. Two different courses, the East is an easier course that is pretty flat and not many obstacles to worry about and pretty open. The West course is a little more challenging, a lot of obstacles from hitting over valleys and water, and parts of the West course is narrow. Both courses are fun. read more

I think this place deserves more then 3 stars. The staff is pretty awesome and has 2 18 hole tracks. The greens were on point and the course is in great shape. Played a pretty fast round with no one in front or back of us. I think we played the tournament course which is really challenging. A lot of blind shots and tough pin placements. The greens are in really good shape and running true. The course layout seems to be confusing and chopped up. There are many dog legs, and rarely are you teeing off to a green you can see. The club house id really beautiful, except it took 5 minutes to get a beer before we teed off because there was no one behind the bar. At the turn, 4 of us went in to get a dog and a beer, and guess what, we all left after 5 minutes, because in spite of the fact that there were employees all around, we couldn't get anyone to the bar/food area. Mannnnn this golf course has to be the plainest one I've been too. It's clean but kind of dry. Bushes everywhere... It was pretty impossible to avoid hitting the balls into the bushes. I spent most of the game hunting down golf balls for my team. OMG 1 bathroom on the whole golf course! Aaahh that's what all those bushes are for LOL. The most annoying thing about this golf course is the shooting range next door. It's really loud and very hard for the golfers to concentrate. Another issue I have is the snack cart lady. She showed up at tee off but disppeared until hole 16. The golfers and I were thirsty and hungry and she was no where in sight. 3 stars for the Marshall...he was really nice and helpful. This is a great course with medium to high difficulty level. I would've given it a 4 star but the shooting range next door really throws off the quite setting needed in the game of golf. If you're in the area, check it out but I wouldn't travel far to play this course. read more

Played west course, wasnt as challenging as pro shop boy said it was. Before round I asked pro shop boy what time does the driving range close, he said 8 pm. I said great, that I was taking my wife to the range after my round. I was done with my round at 7pm, went to the range(I already bought my token before I played my round) and they had the range closed for maintainence. They wouldnt give me my money back, and were extrememly rude. I will never play here again. read more

Only cause you have to they got a star! We've been playing there 25 years this last 6 months have been miserable. Counter help rude and incompetent. Carts die on a consistent basis (3 in one round once) flats tires twice. The grounds people mow next to you while shooting. Grass not as nice as usual. No so called benefits as a member. Went there recentlyand they said they were out if carts, but the barn was half full. Parking lot was only about half full WTF. Use to be the hometown feeling course now an utter disappointment. Hate to put this out there but its just been getting worse. My family has always liked it there but looking for new home couse where we are appreciated. read more

My husband and dad golf twice a week. I bought a groupon for them to use at Eagle Valley. Duncan Management just bought them and will not honor groupon or any other certificate. They will no longer golf at any Duncan course. read more

The concept of Tee Times is not fully understood at Eagle Valley and it often leads to extremely SLOW play. The employees routinely pack golfers into their East Course, regardless of whether there is a line of carts waiting at the first tee box. I know because we have been sent out there as if there was an open spot, only to find out that we were cutting in front of golfers with tee times. To add to that, the golfers are in no way spread out as they play through the first hole, with the next group hitting before the first group has even reached the green. This causes a tight backlog that lasts eighteen holes, as there is nowhere to go, even if you played through. I overheard the cashier tell a golfer to just "find a spot" on the West Course even though it was "full". I am complaining because I DO golf there and I will continue to do so, but NOT mornings, daytimes, or weekends on the East Course, because 18 holes could easily take 6 HOURS! read more

I am from Sacramento and play here once a year every September. I play 36 holes in a day and have enjoyed this course thoroughly for the past 10 years. I love the fact that you can hear the shooting range echo through the canyons (and we're not in the PGA so the noise doesn't hurt my game any more than my own thoughts hurt my game) and can watch a variety of planes land and take off at the nearby airport. The views of the hills and the valley are only surpassed by the friendly people I have hooked up with every time I come to play. And none of this takes into account the great conditions tee to green I have enjoyed every time. I will play this course every year when I am in the area. read more
