Gayle and I have lived in the Genoa Lakes development since October 2000. Our home is not directly on the golf course, but we do have a number of good views from our window. It's a beautiful course that fits in nicely with our neighborhood, and without the housing congestion that continues to grow around the nearby Ranch course. My other experiences include: 1. Morning walks around the golf paths when the course is closed. 2. Attending special events at the Supper Club building. 3. Enjoying an occasional afternoon/early evening nosh and libation at the "19th hole" 4. Before golf course management switched to paid staff, I was a volunteer here. Most of that work was positioning and cleaning golf carts, including an occasional tip. There was also trash pickup, supplying balls to the driving range, and managing tee times at Hole #1. Oddly enough, Gayle and I don't play golf, despite the urgings of friends and family who do here. As a first step, lessons might be in our future. read more

Played here last Thursday (7/9/26). The round was $90....which wasn't close to worth it. The tee boxes were in bad shape, and most greens were the same if not worse. There wasn't a single ball washer on the course. There also wasn't a single water station on the course. The best part of the experience is that there was a beverage cart on a Thursday...to distract me from the course conditions. read more

Just had my wedding here October 12, 2024! Beautiful space, I absolutely loved the view and the dining area of the supper club! The food however was disappointing. Steak was cold and practically raw (some of my family doesn't like it like that), the green beans weren't cleaned or trimmed, the potatoes were undercooked and some were hard, and the Caesar salad had actual sardines on it, wasn't expecting that (grossed out some of my guests and it made it taste more fishy) Drinks from the bar were expensive. When I reached out to Emma after (I left voicemails, emails, etc) I got zero response. We paid a lot of money for this event and it was great but the food.... I wouldn't recommend their food. read more

Such a beautiful setting - the mountains, the landscape the and ponds - love this course! ‍

A very mixed bag. Played here on Thursday 7/31/25. On one hand, the staff at Lakes Course was very kind, giving us a YOC rate (for our two boys) and providing us with brand new carts. On the other hand, the course conditions were below average (over watered tee boxes, patchy fairways and burnt out bumpy greens). However, the absolute WORST thing of all is the mosquitoes. We thought the front 9 was bad, until we hit the back 9. UNREAL!! We had been warned about the skeeters but truly had no idea we would be eaten alive. The two "repellent" bracelets the staff provided us did absolutely nothing!! Even our repellent spray was useless against this onslaught. Two days later and the four of us have bites on every area of our body, even through our clothing! I cannot see a scenario where we ever return. The maintenance staff or even the city of Genoa has to do something about those insects. HORRIBLE!!!!! read more

Played on a weekday - no crowd and good round of golf. Facilities all very nice. Good pro shop and restaurant. Course very wet from watering with ground crews all over it. Greens in very nice shape with good pin placements. Good round to play with great views. Ask about status of mosquitoes when making tee time and prior to leaving playing. read more

Played the Lakes course on 8/9/25 and was pretty disappointed with the course conditions. The club is probably now familiar with my criticisms, but I speak honestly as an avid golfer and someone that has played the Lakes continuously since its 1993 opening and the Ranch since its 1998 opening, and have about as much historical knowledge of the two as anyone. Unfortunately, the Lakes has seen a gradual deterioration for roughly ten years, so it's not completely fair to blame the current ownership. Also, to be fair, the course had to endure a period of drought and the 2023 Carson River flooding, so some conditioning issues are understandable. However, simple things like routine, weekly maintenance are simply not being done. The day I played, the fairways and tees were pretty scruffy and hadn't been mowed in several days. The bunkers were REALLY bad, unusable, several filled with casual water, and had to simply be treated like ground under repair. The bunker edges were covered in weeds and no telling when they had been edged, trimmed, and been dressed by a Sand Pro. #1 and #18 greens are 50% barren due to some sort of fungus. To be fair, they both have been this way for a few years, yet no one seems to notice and do anything about it. #11 fairway is terrible with several dead areas, particularly on the right side of the fairway. Again, it appears multiple irrigation zones must be broken and no repairs are being done. The #13 gold tee box is absolutely shameless. I don't know how it's been allowed to persist, but a row of 4' tall weeds has been allowed to grow right in front of the tee box, effectively blocking the line of play. How does this happen?? I'm only assuming, but I have to believe that someone goes out every morning arranging tee markers and changing pin positions. How does this person not notice the weeds and take them out??!! After disappointing outings at both the Ranch and Lakes, I will start playing elsewhere. Both courses were once destinations with country-club conditions, but now I can find better playing conditions at any municipal course. Quite a shame really. Judging by what I've seen, I don't see any way either course (especially the Ranch) recaptures a high level of conditioning by using in-house maintenance staff. The current weekly maintenance is clearly bare-bones and insufficient to address the issues I just mentioned. The only hope, in my mind, is to hire a Contractor specializing in golf course rehabilitation and bring him in primarily for the Ranch, but to also sweep through the Lakes as well. Then, once the courses are back in shape, allocate more maintenance resources so these debacles don't occur again. Believe me, I'm hopeful significant improvements are coming as I truly enjoy coming to the Carson Valley. However, I don't plan to return until I see actual improvements, so I'll be monitoring things in the meantime. read more

Golf course, {Lakes} was in good shape. Greens were in excellent condition. The course was a little wet so there was minimal roll on the fairways. The snack bar at the turn was non-functioning . No place to get a snack at the turn without returning to the clubhouse. After we finished the round the bar was open with bar food available. Nice clubhouse. Overall a great experience. read more

Joined a friend of mine who plays annually in a men's golf tournament. On the day of the tournament, we drove up and were graciously greeted by the tournament director, enjoyed a meal and a bloody mary to start the day! We were playing in a scramble tournament and felt the vibe of our team that we were going to have a great day. I believe we shot 61 net and posted 1st place, in my first tournament. Course conditions were in great shape, fairways were lush & wide, greens were rolling true and bunkers had true sand in them. After the round, we toasted a few drinks and enjoyed the day. Looking forward to heading back again to defend our title! read more

This place was amazing. Went for a round on my birthday this mid October and the golf course was in a beautiful condition. I love how separated the holes are so no one really piles up on any hole waiting for each other. My first time playing on a course that has hosted qualifying rounds for a US Open. Come and play golf during the season! This is one to not miss! read more

Good afternoon. We played the Lakes course on Friday and the Ranch course on Saturday. Both courses were in good shape and we all enjoyed our rounds. One of the major reasons we had such a great time was our interactions with Makenzie, golf beverage cart operator extraordinaire. She was full of personality, very fun and handled herself well against our group with a slight attitude that was endearing. She crafted a couple unique cocktails that we really appreciated. She is a spunky young lady that doesn't take any guff from anyone. We will be back in August for our annual club event and look forward to seeing her on the course. read more

Fantastic course, HORRENDOUS STAFF. if you want to be treated like you're a complete piece of shit and leave a place feeling worse than when you walk in, this is the course for you. They'll drive up to you and tell you to play faster with 3 groups in front of you, they'll pull you off the course to go argue in the clubhouse with someone who has no managerial power and hands you business cards to solve issues, and then, they'll come yell at you AGAIN to play faster. I've never been bothered by a marshal so many times. Not only were we playing best ball at a fine pace, there were maybe 2 other groups on the entire course. The biggest delay we had was the marshal stopping to talk to us constantly. Besides that ridiculousness and the INSANE amount of mosquitos, it's a good course. read more

Beautiful course and great value for the price. Downside is being attacked by mosquitos despite abundant repellant. Sand traps are horrible, sand is very heavy and deep, makes hitting a normal bunker shot impossible. Course needs a bit of TLC, but a great layout and views. The other odd part was 14 out of 18 holes had a back position, what happened to a front, middle, back rotation. read more

Wow drive into the course and see great manicured lawns on the way in. Then get our on the actual course and find many dry and brown grass mostly everywhere and even some fairways devoid of grass. For the price they charge ($$$$) the course should be in much better shape. The staff is friendly and very helpful.. now if they could only work on the fairways! read more

My wife and I attended a wedding here this past weekend and the setting was beautiful! It was fortunately warm enough for an outdoor ceremony, which was so nice in the Spring. The only concern was the wind, which was a bit tough for the bride to control her veil and which made it a little difficult to hear due to the wind interfering with the microphone. The indoor reception facility was beautiful as well and was very comfortable even for 100 or so guests. The staff was all very professional and kept everything flowing well and everyone comfortable. Overall a very nice location for a wedding and reception! read more

this course plays well and drains excellently as it rained for 2 days prior to play. The greens take a while to heal when they airrate them - however; they do play true & are easy to read. Course flows for a valley course - kinda rolling its way along the mountain ridge and homes in the community. there are a couple of lay up holes so beware. Also, very important!!!! due to elevation please drop a club as your ball DOES fly hi in the mountain air. This also allows you to be aggressive on your approach shot into the green / unless you are accompanied by some antler, 4 hooved friends. All in all a very relaxing round for this Sicilian. read more

A solid 4 1/2 stars. I Played here on a Saturday and was impressed with the overall service, quality of food and the golf course condition. I booked a tee time on the resort course. This course closes in October but had really fast greens, deep bunkers and the back nine played on the side of the mountain and was scenic. The driving range was large and your hitting on grass - range balls were included in the green fees. We saw many wild jack rabbits running everywhere and the landscaping on the back 9 was gorgeous. Food in the bar area was tasty and the waitress was friendly. I tried the BBQ bacon burger with fries and it hit the spot after the 9 hole turn. Burger was made with quality beef and included all the extras. The finishing 18th hole a good one! It's a long par 5 at 618 yards from the back tee box. read more

Worst food! Went to a fund raiser today. Hockey puck steak was served with cold polenta, cold veggies swimming in water. It was gross!

Just for starters, this review is for a wedding rather than a day on the golf course. We just had our wedding reception on November 4th at Genoa Lakes in their Supper Club building and it could not have been more perfect of an evening. We picked Genoa Lakes after touring a bunch of other facilities last winter. Tec, the food and beverage director, is easily one of the best people to work with for any event. He has a no-nonsense, direct approach to dealing with a wedding day, activities and events that could scare some, but he should be trusted with everything he says/does. Not only is his knowledge on-point, he makes sure that the most important day of your life is just that. On top of having Tec, Genoa Lakes is lucky have the building and facility that are simply beautiful. The Supper Club has a ton of space and held our 170 person reception comfortably. There are two little bar areas, dance, floor, buffet area for food and tons of space to walk around, mingle and just be around the people you love. The bartenders for the wedding were amazing. The lines were usually pretty long but they turned out drinks so quickly, kept everyone happy and entertained and dealt with our goofy guests with a smile all night. The food... wow! We had a menu of tri-tip, salmon creole, gnocchi, orzo pasta, cookies, cake, veggies, etc and every single bit was good. Not a single bite was dry, bland buffet food. The gnocchi and the salmon were the absolute best, but nothing was disappointing. I almost wished I had been just a guest to have really gorged myself on the food. It was that good. Picking the food was half the fun as well as you get a huge list of proteins and sauces, etc and it was fun to get to play food coordinator for a day. Simply put, the whole event ran like clockwork, the food was amazing and having Tec there, running the show, made it a great day. If you are getting married or have loved ones looking for a venue, I highly recommend having them take a look at Genoa Lakes, the views outside are great, the venue is incredible and the price blows away all of the expensive Tahoe/mountain venues you could stumble upon. What a gorgeous golf course! Looks like a "Hallmark" setting! My friend is an avid golfer & loves this course... I don't golf but enjoyed our wonderful lunch at the Grille! The Grille has windows all around so you enjoy a panoramic view of the golf course while you eat! Lunch was delicious & Jennifer made our visit so welcoming & friendly. Genoa lakes... more like Genoa flakes. Burger and beer deal starts after 1 pm but by the time you're finished, the grill is closed. That doesn't make any sense. The golf course is great but the pro shop and bar closes far too early. Play golf here but don't rely on them for food. read more

The course was in terrible condition. Not sure if they have not get their water problem fixed or what but even in the fairways there is very little grass. Greens were bumpy and dead spots in places. Firstly, every employee we dealt with was very friendly and welcoming. We ate breakfast in the clubhouse and with the exception of the bacon the food was poor. Scrambled eggs that looked like an omelette, toast that was only cooked on one side and dry potatoes. The golf course was only in fair condition. Fairways were decent although the mosquitoes made it unpleasant on several holes. The greens on the front 9 were in very poor condition. The mosquitoes and poor greens along with a 5 1/2 hour round ( On a Tuesday morning), made the experience quite unpleasant. I can't believe they are collecting $95 a round for this course. We paid $80 through Golf Moose but still way overpriced. read more

Friday morning tee time. Course itself was fine. Views were great. The issues came with the maintenance of the course. Every fairway was almost a marsh at most points. Bunkers were pools, (almost all ground under repair) and many tee boxes were over saturated with water. On top of that, the sprinklers were running full blast on a couple of holes spraying directly on the cart path and over the entirety of the fairway. If these were the only problems, I would have a little more sympathy, but when people say mosquitos are an issue on this course, they MEAN IT. Maybe my group had sweet blood, but it was rough from hole 1. The starter telling us it wouldn't be bad until maybe hole 13 didn't help either. Had a great round too, but nothing was overshadowing the negatives to this course including the steeper price relative to other public courses. Good luck if you plan on golfing here, but if I had any advice, I'd say look elsewhere if you want to enjoy your round. - Shoutout cart girl for pointing out my drive though. read more

Showed up the next day and was terribly disappointed what poor condition the course was in. For $100 this was not a good value. Will not be back to the Lakes course again read more

Every single aspect of our visit to Genoa Lakes Ranch Course was pretty much flawless. We were greeted at the car with carts. The staff were ALL awesome friendly. The course was clean, safe and welcoming. The food was great. The bathrooms are clean. The cart woman was friendly and on the spot with the drinks. Prices were fair. Zero complaints. An awesome day. Nestled on the base of the Eastern Sierras in Nevada lies this gem of a golf course. 2 top notch courses are available (The Resort and The Lakes) and on our trip we were able to play just 1, The Lakes Course. Lots of water but not at all intimidating. The "Lakes" were more like wetlands or marshes, but I can see the marketing appeal in their choice as Genoa Marsh just doesn't have that same ring. The amenities here are spectacular without being stuffy. The bathroom in the clubhouse had that "clubhouse" feel with wooden lockers, a shower, private stalls for the toilets (has it's own room and door, not just partitions). It looked more like a library than a bathroom. From the GPS equip electric carts, to the monstrous well-made sandwiches from their take-out cafe, to the refreshment cart lady who can dish out anything from a homemade cookie to a shot of Jager. This place is world class, without the world class price tag. You can actually play both courses here for about $160 but I think its a one day deal. What really knocked me out on top of everything else is the sheer pleasure in playing this tough game amongst this beautiful back drop. To see a booming 250 yard drive sail across the desert mountain air to a back drop of a Ponderosa Pine littered 2000 foot mountain hillside is just a bit humbling yet exciting. Even though we were generally a rowdy group while golfing, the setting just kept everyone at peace and subdued (at least for us). I knew we were all equally awed by the magnanimous effect raw nature can exude. See pics. Do play in the morning though, as the wind really starts to kick in the afternoon, as we felt during our last 3 holes. It ain't no joke. read more

Very nice courses. I played both the ranch and the lakes. The lakes course doesn't have many lakes that come into play besides the 18th. Both courses are well maintained but way overpriced in my opinion. This is no coyote creek, grays crossing, tahoe donner, white hawk...yet they are charging similar prices. The staff in the pro shop and the cart girls were very nice and helpful. However, this place loses an additional star because of the bartender lady. At best she's rude. I went in to get a water before the round. After my round as I was walking up the stairs, she locked the door before i could make it. She saw me walking up and saw me at the door. It wasn't even 6 pm yet. It was 5:55. That's not cool. This place gets 3 stars instead of 5 because of their prices and their bartender. read more

The course was good not great. Everything seemed slightly overpriced for what it was (golf, drinks, food). Maybe I haven't caught up with inflation or maybe I was coming off the high of playing Edgewood but a $100 round should offer a bit more in terms of quality.
