It seems like he just planted flowers and other plants where they didn't belong and started offering extremely dangerous and unsafe tram tours to brag about it. Also, the tour guide was obsessed with trees and dwarf mistletoe. It was incredibly hard to listen to. There are MUCH better things that you can spend your money on other than this. The only nice thing about this place was the visitor center.

If you are planning a trip up here in the Summer…read moremonths, (which I would not come in Winter, it can be tough!), and you are staying in the General Area of Anchorage and or Seward, please make room on your agenda for a trip to this wonderment of mankind. The Glacier herself is receding, but the Parks area and camping facilities are placed in areas where all you can say is "Oh my God'. The scenery, the air, the "feeling" is something that is a once in a lifetime opportunity that should not be passed on. Please do not come if you are looking for "Showers", running water and 5 star hotels. There are Restroom facilities, conveniently located throughout the campsites, with Potable Water, but this experience is what camping/fishing is all about. Jenn and I and Jersey and Chopper stayed at Black Bear Campground, and for Motor homes there is the Williwaw Camp grounds. The campsites are clean, and deep rooted in the forest system. They are laid out by the Glacier rivers, which puts you no more than 50-75 yards away from the streams where you can watch the Salmon runs of all the Salmon breeds. You can't fish in that area, but fishing is just down the road. Have you ever woke up early in a beautiful sun drenched morning, and heard a running stream of water, and breath some of the cleanest air known to man, pour yourself a cup of campfire coffee, and just take in the beauty of the land. They tell stories of the Earth's history, shape the Earth's surface as they move and form valleys and mountains. A remnant of the last ice age cradled high in the Coast Mountains' lofty peaks, the Mendenhall Glacier, named after a noted scientist who served on the Alaska Boundary Commission, is one of many major glaciers that connect to the vast ice field in Juneau, where we arrived this morning as our second port of call. This was our first excursion given by the Norwegian cruise line. My partner and I took a tour bus to the Mendenhall Glacier from our cruise ship. It was about a 30-minute ride. The tour guide did a nice job in keeping us informed. Upon arrival, most visitors walk down to the shoreline by the lake to see this awesome spectacle at Photo Point. If one has never seen a glacier before, this is definitely worth your time.

The hike is really not that difficult. Its a pretty short day hike of around 5 miles round trip and i believe to spot we went to with the group was around 800 feet of elevation gain. I found it to be a relatively easy trail but the people in my tour group were slow and many found it to be challenging. There are some chains to help you get up some of the uneven spots. Of course as with any hike be prepared, have water, snacks, good shoes. I would definitely come back here in the future but I would want to finish the hike all the way up to the top. Did not really see anyone else out on the trail other than our tour group. This was a weds morning.

Not sure how long or big this trail is we took it up to the cross on top the way up was nice , smooth not too crazy with the climbs. Trail is decent, this time it was a bit muddy but over all not bad. Best part of course are the amazing views, we were lucky to have a decent day yes it was cloudy & did sprinkle a bit but it also cleared up & the views once that fog moves over were very nice. Got to see some wildlife as well , this was a good way to spend a few hours, taking the tram up, nice little hike & then back down on the tram.

This time, we booked an excursion that not only went here, but to a hatchery and glacier gardens. This was our last stop on our excursion and our allotted time here was extremely limited. We did the 1 mile hike to the falls, speed walking the entire way. The trail was mostly flat and people of all ages could easily walk it. We also were able to do another short hike to a photo point where you can see both Mendenhall glacier and Nugget falls. If you're on a cruise, and want to have several experiences at one port, I recommend booking a combo tour such as this. The only downside is the time constraints.
