There is a pier that overlooks the outside of the hatchery. It has gorgeous picturesque views. There is also the inside part of the hatchery where the young salmon are hatched. Last there is a gift shop that also has a tank with some interesting sea creatures as well as a petting tank. You can sample some of the smoked salmon in the gift shop. Overall, it was a unique experience, and we enjoyed it.

Visitor center has an elevator to the 2nd floor that provides insight, views, and toilets. If in Juneau via a cruise ship you can access the park via both shore excursions and tour operators. No real complications on May 5, on that clear dry day, though 5 cruise ships were in port making the park entrance busy with both tourists and transports. It was a nice way to see a glacier, but the initial park area was crowded, so do not expect to escape from the bustle of tourists unless you explore deeper into the park.

EXPERIENCE: You must do the Nugget Falls trail. It's flat, easy, and takes you to the waterfall in less than a mile. The waterfall is stunning. You will be very close to the glacier from there! The trail itself is a fairy tale. Greenery, ferns, moss, rocks, and small waterfalls surround you. You will want to stop and take pictures of everything! OVERALL: This is almost an emotional experience. I want to go back one day and I'm so grateful I was able to experience it.

We drove up to the location to find it empty and were a little disheartened that maybe they were out doing an excursion themselves. We called and left a message and Paul called us back 2 mins later. While didn't see Orca's and it was rainy and had trouble finding whales, we did find 3 and this proves that nature is unpredictable. What earned them five stars, and an endearing place in my tiny heart, is the crew. Captain Dan was good but what made this trip for me was the naturalist Kaelyn (hope got it right). She was amazing, had a wealth of knowledge, and extremely easy to talk to. She shared the passion she has for wildlife, particularly whales, and spoke at length about their behaviors here and in Hawaii. She really is fantastic. Our boat had a small group size and surprised they didn't cancel it, very small. The crew on this trip, and my prior one last year, couldn't stop talking about the company itself, a small locally owned group which has excellent customer service, truly exceptional. They also Treat their employees like the gold they are Many thanks to them for a great tour. While didn't see as much as had hoped, and while weather didn't cooperate, it's a fantastic trip and time. Mr. Bob Harris provided 3 vans with himself, his lovely wife and another gentleman as drivers/guides. The tour was wonderful and informative. At $55 per hour, the overall cost is cheaper than the bus tour provided by the cruise ships. Since we did not travel with other people, we got all the flexibility to go and stop any time. We visited Mendelhall Glacier (Hiked to the nearby waterfall), Macaulay Salmon Hatchery, Downtown Juneau and Shrine of St. Therese (just OK). The best thing of the tour was that they took us to a secret spot to see the salmons in the creek. It's so close that we actually picked up a couple salmons and took pictures. This would be the unforgettable memory for both the kids and adults. I highly recommend Juneau Sightseeing Tours. Instead of booking individual tours through our cruise ship (we were a group of 19 friends and family), we chartered a bus from First Student, and came up with our own itinerary. We hit Shrine of St. Therese, Mendenhall Glacier and Visitor Center and the Salmon Hatchery! We even booked a whale watching charter, for which First Student wouldve brought us to mid-itinerary, but due to weather, it was cancelled. But no worries...we got to spend more time at our other stops. Katie, our bus driver, was super friendly and shared her knowledge about Juneau along the way. If you're in the area and have a large group, First Student is the way to go!! Be sure to tip your driver!
