I've tried Eagles several times, each time hoping for the burgers and fries to get better...almost ten times and still horrible food. Burgers were bland and dry. Fries were often soggy and under cooked. Service is decent, but the food needs a great improvement. I know they once were on a Food Network episode, but the food seems to have gone down from there. Simply a great burger place. Although they are famous for their massive portions, if you aren't feeling too hungry they do have a pretty wide variety of burger sizes that you can choose from depending on your level of hunger. I went for breakfast. Had the Sunrise sandwich with ham on a bagel. Pretty standard but the price wasn't, only $2.85! Nice. I also got a HUGE side of home fries for $1.75. They were grilled to a crisp, which I love. Also, I don't know if this was intentional or if my timing was just right, but the ketchup was ice cold. Nothing is better than ice cold ketchup on a piping hot home fry. Too many places serve room temperature ketchup. Eagles... good touch here. If it was by chance, make sure it isn't from now on. Ice cold ketchup is the way to go! The only disappointing thing was lack of "fun" on the wall. Robert Chiller created the Godzilla burger almost 20 years ago. If you finished it you got your photo on the wall. Now there are only a few photos of people that failed. I was looking for Adam from Man v. Food there since he failed, not to be found. Eat here all the time but never had the Inferno burger till this weekend. It does not disappoint. Just enough heat but not overwhelming. It is now in my rotation. Fries seemed a little different. Better than they have been in a while. More spud flavor but maybe that's because of the burger. Love the Eagle. read more

Have been going here a while, the food is good, however they have a new cashier who is awful. He took my order over the phone and when he asked for the name on the order I said it and spelled it "Wyatt". I got there to pick up my order said my name and what the order was, he took my money and said it would be right out, after 15 minutes I asked if a bag that had been there the whole time was my order and it was. If I had not asked I would have never gotten my order, because he still wrote my name as Ryan and didn't even check if that order waiting was mine. Never had a bad meal at Eagle's. It's always packed, so it occasionally takes a while to be served, but you just have to understand that it's perhaps Cleveland Circle's most popular location. Another rainy cool Saturday in May. I need to go somewhere I have never been and I'm hungry. I don't dare go to Zaftig's because it I don't have the patience. Where oh where oh where does this girl go? I drove aimlessly on Beacon Street (I did have a specific destination of Marathon Sports but they didn't open yet and I need to eat something). Eagles Deli? Wow, a parking space out front. YESSS! I walk in and immediately knew I would stay. I got bacon, scrambled eggs and toast. And at least a pound of potatoes (which I didn't order) but ate anyway. For a quick breakfast place, the Eagles Deli hits the spot. They even have a "Wall of Shame" with polaroids of all the people who couldn't finish their food. Maria Stephanos, the guffawing/cackling anchorwoman of Fox 25 news is on the wall, but her petite frame is holding a plate of food and smiling. She's a runner and I don't think actually eats at the Eagles Deli. Oh, the most annoying thing was listening to a d-bag tell this girl he was eating breakfast with "You're like the first girl I have actually hung out with after meeting her in a bar." Wow, that's deep, bro, real deep. It didn't take me long to see Mary Ann's is across the street. Mary Ann's is quite possibly the worst bar any self-respecting person (especially female would want to go to). Clearly, he already was on another wall of shame. When I first visited the infamous "eagles deli" I had such high expectations mainly due to Man Vs Food and Phantom Gourmet, that I wasn't sure wether my hopes would have been met. AND OHHH MY WERE THEY MET!! upon arrival you are overwhelmed with this feeling of community and life which is mostly due to its location being close to Boston College and also how packed the restaurant was with people looking for an afternoon grub with friends. After reading over the equally appetizing choices offered I realized the GODZILLA(pretty big Burger) was the one for me. As the food arrived I knew I would not be dissapointed by the enormous Burger and the pile of fries in front of me. I suppose the one word I could think of to describe the meal is... WOWWWWW. I was at a loss of words and that's hard for me to say cause I like to think of myself as a Burger fanatic who fry's brugers.wherever he goes. Aside from the Burger being absolutely amazing, the price came at 9.99 for a meal that would seem as if it was for a death row having his last meal. I truly believe have no negative thing to say about eagles deli and am proud that my first review is this amazing restaurant. Eagle's Deli is no more. I know this place was made famous by " Man Vs. Food" for it's food challenges but the normal portions were plentiful and quite tasty as well. No more. At the end of 2009, the Eagle underwent a seemingly harmless renovation that us unsuspecting locals didn't realize would be a change for the worse. They actually have a healthier menu now ( used to love there fried chicken) but this was not where you went for healthy. The decor is quite metallic and sterile. The wall of shame is gone. A wall where people who couldn't finish the burger challenges there were shamed for there failure.You used to be able to get two sunrises ( egg & cheese sandwiches with you choice of meat ) and a heaping mound of potatoes for around 6 bucks. Both Sunrises were sizable and awesome. They still sell Sunrises but they are smaller and are sold only individually. If they sell potatoes, they are a separate charge. I've only been there 2x after the downgrade but I don't think I would rush back for breakfast ( i've yet to try there burgers). The food is average at best. It's nothing worth traveling for as the old Eagle's was becoming. Moogie's on Chestnut Hill Ave is just as good and has a lot more personality ( great food and they have board games there). read more

If you like your burgers true to American slob style, extra big and extra grease, this is the place for you. I expected a lot from this place considering it's been on Food Network and Travel Channel. Unfortunately - I went there thinking I had to get a burger for obvious reasons and was extremely disappointed. I had the Bacon/Bleu burger, and it was just eh. Nothing special thats for sure. The onion rings certainly weren't the best I've ever had but I did eat most of those. We also ordered a turkey sandwich to go which looked great. And I tried some of the Oreo shake which was good as well. Overall .. I would never go again because after I was in grease coma. I had been warned prior to eating here that the burgers were no good, "I'd rather have a Big Mac" they cried. Surely, a place that Boston magazine had recognized as having the best Burgers in Boston in 2006 (must have been a slow year for burgers) would be good enough. They claim to be the second best place in the world to pig out, although I'm still trying to figure out what's so appealing about that. Eagles Deli is kind of gross, its a B.C. hangout I suppose, based more on location than anything, although I never really considered any part of Greater Boston a "college area," with the possible exception of Harvard square, but even that is laced with tourists. In any event, the burgers here are bad, and let's face it, there's no effort here, clearly the burgers are pre-frozen, almost exactly what one would find at the grocery store. You know the one's I'm talking about, pre-shaped patties that any "Joe the Plummer" can throw on the grill and look like a real man for "grilling." But they don't taste good, same deal with the fries, also pre-frozen. Like I said, no effort, not even real cooking. The restaurant is set up like a cafeteria essentially, with a few pimply faced college kids filling up the room. Sadly, most people, not just the impoverished co-eds, don't know what a real burger is. I'm beginning to wonder if anyone in Boston does, for that matter. The cheese is unmelted, it comes on a very unflattering bun, with nothing else. If you want toppings you have to ask after it's all cooked, and the line cooks are anything but cooperative. Everything is served on a plate that must be from the '60's, and its just an embarrassment all around. They claim to be World Famous, but how? As I wrote previously in my blog, some places become famous for something, here, its for serving mammoth 5 pound burgers that come with 20 slices of cheese, 20 pieces of bacon and 5 pounds of fries. Hey, the guy on Man vs. Food came here, it must be great! The problem is, they become famous, and then what? Well, they stop caring about the food because it doesn't matter anymore, although I can't imagine a time when the food was ever good here. I've eaten burgers all over and these burgers are bar none "the best". Before coming here I saw the restaurant featured on the travel channel. I was skeptical because of the challenges and different sizes of burgers you can get. I mean you can go overboard because the amount of food they give you is mountainous. all i know about this place is it gives VERY BIG portions.but,what it is known for is the challenge.in the early 70's they had a half pound burger.someone challenged them to double it.and the king kong burger was born.then someone else went 2 pounds for the godzilla burger.someone else went 3 and someone else 4.the deal is this.if you can eat the 5 pound burger you get the record,a t-shirt,your picture on the wall by the record and you get to name the new burger.but beware!in the last 10 years,1500 people have tried and failed.im not sure about the rules other than that. the resteraunt itself is world famous and its the biggest food challenge in the united states.i think it'd be worth going there just to see how close you could get.i think with about a week or so to prepare,the right medicines and unlimited trips to the bathroom,i could give it a try. the college kids have loved this place since the 70's because of its low prices and generous servings.i highly recommend it. read more

I used to swing by Eagles all the time. I luckily lived a couple blocks away so I never had to sit down and eat here if I didn't want to. It was packed at the expected times -- weekends and dinner time during the week -- and was easier to deal with while the BC crowd was on summer break. The guys and girls who worked the register and the grill were always really friendly. I usually only ordered a kiddie burger with cheese and fries. That's enough saturated fat for me. During the week at lunchtime you can get a combo called "the sophomore" (I think) which is exactly what I always ordered + a soda for less money. Sweet deal if you ask me. I also enjoyed the Harvard sandwich and some other huge roast beef monstrocity. You never leave Eagles hungry (unless you are a vegetarian and therefore are only there to watch others eat). The fries are hit or miss. It's been there for a long time and will continue to be a Cleveland Circles staple for years to come. read more

On the pricey side for a burger and fries, this place makes up for it with history and taste. Featured on food network and beloved by BC alum, it has it's own intrinsic following. However despite the popularity, they make a good burger. I would say they are on the slightly smaller side though very well cooked. The meat is excellent. The fries are the crisp/crunchy sort, which is my preference anyhow. They have preset burgers you can order which are not extraordinary. The most unique thing about this place is probably the amount of patties you can get. Parking can be a pain but if you're in a pinch I've parked at the Reservoir and walked over without any issues. read more

Poor service, cold food. Ordered for pickup by phone. Was told it would take 5-10 minutes. I live right around the corner so got there exactly. I paid, I told the girl my name, she repeated the order, and then said I could grab a drink. I sat close by assuming the food was not yet ready (now I realize she neglected to tell me so). I then watched a man order for sit down, eat his food, and walk out before I had received my to go order. Of course, my food was visibly sitting behind the counter for over 30 minutes in a bag. I've been going to Eagles for 10 years. We just got breakfast and it was awful. Eggs were runny and uncooked (basically not edible), potatoes were undercooked, breakfast sandwich was gross and the set up of the restaurant doesn't work. Trying to get pick up means you have to either wait in the ridiculous line with people who haven't ordered yet or cut the line and have everyone sneer at you - I cut the line and people weren't happy. This place went totally down hill - from the food to the service and I won't be going back. But, it's very disappointing given the history of Eagles. read more

We came all the way from NH to have an Eagles burger after my husband saw this place on Man vs Food. We don't come to Boston very often and when we decided to take our kids to the Children's Museum there my husband found the perfect or what he thought was the perfect opportunity to try this infamous burger place. After taking what seemed like a never ending subway ride out to Brighton...Eagles was easily spotted as soon as we got off the t. Once inside I noticed that the place had been remodeled since its stint on MVF. The decor just didn't seem to fit the style resturant....like it was trying to seem hip when it should just be what it is, a dinner. The food didn't take to long to get and the burger was huge (both my husband and I got the King Kong). The burger was sub-par that's for sure (Ive had better burgers at 5 guys) It lacked flavor and I had to put tons of ketchup on it just so I could taste something. The fries weren't bad but nothing spectacular. I wont be making a trip back to this restaurant the next time I'm in Boston that's for sure. read more

I went to the Eagle this weekend and was seriously skeeved out by what I saw. Why don't these people wear sanitary gloves? I watched the cooks prepare our burgers and they might as well have blown their noses on them. In this day and age with hepatitis and e-coli breakous, they need to get with the times. The should spend the small amount of money and buy sanitary gloves. I tried to get over it but even as I was eating my burger, one of the cooks was basically wiping his nose with his hands. my coworker has been trying to get our other work amigos to go here for ages. so when he and i had the boss' car for the day to go on a spiderman bicycle-buying adventure, we took a relatively major detour because there was absolutely no reason not to. we'd both seen eagle's on man vs. food (the one where YOUK says to adam "that's the way you eat a burger, ya bum?") so we knew they had giant burgers. too bad those challenges cost like $40 bucks. and to be honest, i think the idea of eating 5 pounds of burger and 2 pounds of fries sounds GROSS. but i digress. he got a 1 pounder and i got the spicy one (hot sauce, jalepenos, and cheddar yesss) and it was, my friends, freaking delicious. hot and juicy (that's what she said) and the spiciness level was just the flavor i'd been craving all day. i'm sure he and i will be back sometime. we both like to eat :) read more
