I'd love to give this a 5/5 because the sandwich I had was actually pretty solid, but the portion size for the price just isn't quite there. That being said, this unassuming sandwich shop in coolidge corner does have some very tasty options and I'll come back again. On this particular occasion, I ordered the Luck7 seven sub: Lucky 7 (turkey breast, our homemade coleslaw, russian dressing & melted swiss on toasted sub roll) $10.95 - The coleslaw on this is sweet and acidic without being too vinegary. It's the perfect balance to a heaping amount of turkey and delicious swiss cheese. However, if you look t the photo, it looks like only half a sub roll was used. I loved this sandwich, but I found myself still hungry after finishing it, and for $10.95, I would have loved a larger portion. Still though, it's really great, and there is a good amount of meat in the actual sandwich. All in all, I will be back because the taste of the subs are really great and they have a lot of good options on their menu, but it gets a 4/5 instead of a 5/5 because of the price and portion size. Having grown up in the Boston area, my expectation of a sub joint is a hefty pile of meat on a hoagie roll. A quintessential sandwich experience must be enough food for me to "need a minute" after I finish, before I could be expected to be mobile. Seven Subs approaches the cult of Boston sandwich culture a little differently. When I ordered my sandwich, I have to be honest, I was expecting more. And by more, I mean more sandwich. This is hands-down the very best lunch sandwich shop in the entire Boston area, including all the places I've been on north shore, southern NH, and even southern Maine. I've lived in the Boston area since 1974, and Seven Subs was my go-to lunch place for the ten years I lived in Coolidge Corner. I've lived in Somerville since 2010 -- and still go to Seven Subs whenever I'm in the area during the day. My personal favorite is their "RBI". My wife is partial to their tuna melt. Seven Subs is tiny -- literally a hole-in-the-wall with no indoor seating and limited outdoor tables. Having said that, there is seldom a wait for an outside table and their are many park benches very nearby. Seven Subs is an easy walk from the Coolidge Corner stop on the C-line. I don't know how we didn't know about this place before The Thing started, but "thanks" to The Thing, we've been scouring new places for takeout. And some days I just want a sandwich! It's very easy to order. Just call and they'll have it ready for you. No online ordering platform but that's ok! It's nice to talk to humans. :) I love how they cut the subs in half and wrap them already cut. The sandwiches aren't bulky, which is helpful for me as a stomachless eater. Not as great as some people are saying.. Went to Seven Subs because of the reviews. Purchased two large subs for myself and my friend got one large. Its a small hole in the wall and orders take quite awhile. Portions: ------------ The portion Sizes are really small. Too small in fact, although the prices are mainly around 6.70 for subs you can buy a much larger sub anywhere else for another 1.30. As most places charge 7.99 for a Large. We couldn't believe how small the subs we received were. Even though the guy was friendly enough...We felt like we got taken. The guy took quite awhile to make the subs what he did was take one long sub roll and cut it into 6 pieces which left us with subs the length of just over a soda can (when counting 2 pieces). Thats the Large.... (We knew it was one sub as our pieces connected perfectly, even the cuts on the sandwiches were off, So you'd have one larger sandwich and one smaller size on the full sub, sad when your sharing with someone else). Ingredients: ---------------- Poor. Wheres the beef? two slices per meat per sandwich sub... Cheap meat youd find in a grocery store and the Italian came with lots of lettuce. Pepperoncini was in there but barely as well as any other ingredients vegetable wise, only 2 tiny pieces per sub roll or not even. Hype: -------- I understand this is an area where college kids live and they are away from home for the first time, but obviously a lot of reviews are based from people with no pallet to speak of whatsoever and dont know what a real sub is like (apparently growing up in the woods with no restaurants?). If you go there regularly it is like the Cheers of sandwiches where he knows your order. sandwiches, wraps, salads are made to order. if they run out of ingredients, that it is off the menu, or out of breads and rolls, then close for the day. your sandwich is fresh. Wide selection for the size of the place. I call ahead and they are ready to go when i get there. Probably some thing for everyone. I have my favorites, picked winners and stuck with them. After covid restaurant costs and prices increased, here too, but it is still reasonable. I like their basic deli BLT. They got it right. Just the right balance. Toasted white, mayo, b, l, t and add pickles. The bacon thin, smoky, and the right amount. constructed so each bite has all the flavors. 7Subs is awesome. They have really good sandwiches for cheap and they're not the little, puny sandwiches that kind of fill you up. I'm talking about GAH. I'M FULL! sandwiches (think Taco Bell commercial). I always get the Brookline Club, toasted and melted and it always satisfies. I can't remember what's in it. I just know that there's cole slaw and russian dressing on really yummy rye. Mmm... It's only a couple bucks for an awesome sandwich and it's not just stuff they throw on bread, they actually cook stuff sometimes. Anyways, I highly recommend this place. I've never had a bad meal with them and if you come here, you won't either. Just one last word of advice: there's no seating except for outdoor seating during the warmer weather so definitely plan on taking your sandwich home to devour...which is kind of okay. I mean...do I really want the world to see me stuff my face? Anyhow, do come here. This is the definition of a hidden gem. You'll find a window in the side of the building with some great outside seating. Two guys are whipping together sandwiches listening to heavy metal while you wait a minute for one of them to free them selves up to take your order. They take your order, say wait one minute and... well one minute later your sandwich is ready. Its on soft bread, with great sauces and fresh meat. So delicious. However I also thought both were pretty darn small - for over $7 each, I was expecting something a little more substantial. The club was regular sandwich size and the meatball sub was on a pretty dinky sub roll. Had we ordered the small sandwiches I'm not sure what we would have gotten - half a sandwich and half a sub roll? So close to the Coolidge Corner on a side street, but still a hidden gem. I know people who've lived here for years, but still don't know about this place. I found it accidentally by driving by and couldn't help to wonder what the 7 subs were. Sort of like 4 burgers, where they have a super limited menu, you can't help but to wonder which are the lucky 7. It turns out they have more than 7 subs, but there is one called the Lucky 7. I ordered that one and it was just great, better than Subway or Quizno's for sure. Also, you can get free pickles! You just have to ask. I love pickles... Crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch, gone. Note that, this is a hole in the wall, sort of like a Wienerschnitzel stand with no seating outdoors. I recommend calling in and then picking up to save time. read more

This hole in the wall place serves sandwiches that are fantastic here. My favorite is the BLAST... bacon lettuce, avocado, sprouts, and tomato. That is served with mayo on really grainy bread. I love They boil their hot dogs, which I don't enjoy. If they did their hot dogs on a grill or griddle then I would try them again but until then I'll stick to their sandwiches. first my profile has me in SF, but i am local. been going here since they opened. it is the definition of a hole in the wall. only the split swinging door to the business, an open sign, menus in the window and an awning, tell you that you found them. low key business. not a big social media presence. they make sandwiches, wraps, hotdogs, salads, offer canned and bottled drinks and packaged sides. they get busy....and your sandwich is made to order, which means if you walk up during lunchtime you could be in the queue behind others who called ahead. calling ahead is the way to go. if they are busy with orders, the phone could be unanswered, and you might have to call back. and, if they get slammed with orders, they might run out of ingredients for that day. only so much refrig space for their ingredients that are fresh. another good reason to call ahead. On a call you learn if they are out for the sandwich you want, you can change it and make modifications to the sandwich because it is made to order. they take cards or cash. cards get the small percentage increase to cover the card fees charged to businesses. cash is preferred. menu is fairly large for this small shop. And like any menu anywhere, some items might standout more than others, or just personal preferences for what you like. i sampled around the menu, found my favorites and go with them. i was surprised by a couple of reviews here that talked about portion size and low value. i dont see it. These are satisfying sandwiches. different breads are used for different sandwiches, ranging from whole wheat, rye, scali white, sub rolls. each will affect how much is on the sandwich. they are plenty filling. the key here is taste. ive had plenty of subs with piles of ingredients that were not constructed well. i like the melding of the seven subs ingredients with the dressings. the subrolls are soft, with a little chew and a little sweet, not like dry, flaking rolls often used in places that dont make their own breads. I particularly like their Turkey-V and Meatball marinara both on a sub roll, and the BLT. You can add bacon to customize other sandwiches. about the BLT... i mostly dislike reviews where the OP says this is the" best in the universe" , but Seven Subs BLT is damn good. i will eat a BLT in my home range and when i travel. It is sort of a test of the restaurant for how good they make this simple sandwich. Many ways to screw it up, but Seven Subs has it nailed. Here is why...bacon is good quality, the right thickness and smoke flavor, the lettuce is cut into fine strips so it stays on the sandwich and is present in every bite. Same for the tomatoes. The mayo is not sweet and complements the other flavors. I get the toasted scali bread and add dill pickles. The bacon is cooked well-done...not fatty and chewy, but not overdone-carbonized. just right. When constructed, the ingredients are all layered and each bite has all the ingredients In it. A joy to eat. Good balance of proteins, fats, acids and textures. I have eaten BLTs all over the area, and have not found a match. My worry about Seven Subs is that one day i will walk up to the window and see a sign "thanks for your years of support, we retired." read more

There's nothing to love about Seven Subs. Small is an understatement; it's downright claustrophobic. The kitchen IS the space with year-round outdoor seating beside the ordering window and three copies of the menu. Their signature sandwich -- the Lucky 7 -- is nothing more than a Rachel on a sub roll, and with the complete acceptance of self-promotion, they STOLE my idea of topping subs with side items! Thieves! Yet, you end up loving Seven Subs for these exact reasons. A pitiful love you'd rather didn't exist, but love nonetheless. Like how they call their pickle policy ("Ask for one, get one. Don't, don't") now-famous, and the manner in which they reward late lunchers (one free sandwich after 7 purchased post 2pm, M-F) to keep the flow steady. Unless you're a pig, you can't spend more than $10 on a meal here and this is the first sub shop that explains, in writing and with egregious detail, the difference between a small and large sandwich. On strong recommendation of a fellow yelper, I tried the $6.50 Unforgiven, a toasted roll layered with roast beef, potato salad, melted provolone and BBQ sauce. Halved and wrapped as a square, it was pleasantly packed, not sloppy jalopy Lappy Dripperstein, with a solid combination of flavors that didn't knock me over, but I stumbled a bit! If you find yourself in Coolidge Corner, owe it to yourself to shake the change out of your pockets and take home a cheap, satisfying lunch from Seven Subs. That is, if you can find it. read more

The food is fairly good here. The ingredients seem pretty good, portions are nicely sized, and prices are fair. But what the hell is with this space? I remember there being more room in this place, but I went back a few weeks ago and now it fits one person waiting for their sub. Look, if a place wants to become a walk-up sub joint, I have no problem with that. In fact, it's probably the best layout for this place. But the way it is now is just plain ridiculous. Let me take you on a tour. So you walk up, and you see something that looks like it should have a fraction of an address, not a full number. You open the door (which swings into the place), and skootch around it to close it. If you're lucky, the place will be empty. You look at the menu, order your food, and are told to wait. While you're waiting, somebody will come in when you're not looking and deck you right upside your unsuspecting dome with the door. Yes, there's that little space. Exactly one day after I reviewed Swampscott's Manhattan Sandwiches, lamenting the lack of Brookline Club sandwich in my life, I decided to check out 7 Subs, which I'd read about on Yelp. And what do I find? A freakin' Brookline Club exactly like I remembered for only $5.75 (for the small...which will fill you up unless you are a beast of some sort)!! Happy day. It's cute that they have a door, since this is essentially a to-go window kind of place. There is no place to sit or even to stand and eat--you need to take that baby to go. But don't fret - these guys are super fast and you'll have your sandwich without having to wait too long. And they deliver, so you can wait in the comfort of your own home if you prefer. Basically - the food is delish, the service is fast and friendly, they take credit cards, and you can get it all delivered. Yay! read more

Plenty of space and seating. (HA!) This place might be the smallest sub shop known to man, but it has got everything else and all I'd ever want in a sandwich. Who cares if it's the size of a closet? Tons of different sandwiches and a great variety. They are happy to make anything exactly how you'd like. Large or small subs. Small is good for a meal, and get the large if you want some left over. And it's all done at a reasonable price! Open til 9pm each night is good, but it would be great if it was open later on the weekends (closes at 5 on Saturdays). I think most of my reviews start with "I'd been dying to try this place" and this one will be no different. I'd been eyeing it and its good reviews for awhile, mostly because I generally don't like sandwiches. However, today it was sunny and in the 50s, so this was the perfect place to stop to grab some picnic fare. First, it's more of a counter or a sandwich kiosk--like the owner rented a walk-in closet and put a kitchen in it and a sign out front. But there are 3 tables outside and it's Coolidge Corner (i.e. tons of places to sit and eat). The teenagers who worked there were blasting some pretty fun music, which helped the experience. I got the Unforgiven (upon the wealth of Yelp recommendations) and my bf got the RBI. My sammy was insanely delicious. Roast beef, provolone, bbq sauce, and potato salad? Bizarre, but it is fantastic. The bbq sauce was a stand-out. The bread was perfect, and the toppings weren't piled so high that everything spilled out of the sandwich when you bit into it. Nom nom nom nom. The RBI was great, too (roast beef, provolone, grilled onions and peppers, bbq sauce, and ranch dressing). The large was a bit too big for me (my bf ate most of the 2nd half), but perfect for my bf. It was slightly more expensive than my usual order at Subway, and was a far superior sandwich. This place also delivers (BF: "You mean to tell me I could be eating this same sandwich in my pjs at home??"), which is great news for delivery sluts like me. I was randomly told about this place last week and checked it out the other night. We parked behind the Coolidge theater (metered spots but no pay at night!) at about 7:30pm - the place was easy to find on the side street there near the lot. There is literally no room inside to do anything but order at the counter. One person at a time. The menu is very intriguing, but totally fit my very particular way or ordering things. The pickle policy is very rational. The food only took five minutes to be ready (I think it was just dead due to the late hour, but yaay) and the kid that took the order did it right. The turkey sub I had was near perfect. Good amounts of the ingredients I ordered, and the turkey was fresh and thick. They did not skimp on quality, even the end-of-the-day sub roll.
