I came here one day because I was very early for my dinner reservation and starting to get hungry. I wanted something quick to eat and happened to find Brookline pizza spa. This place is no frills and they don't have a lot of seating either, but the pizza itself was really good. I got a slice of cheese pizza and the server heater it up immediately. I was pleasantly surprised at how much pizza I got for the price too. You needed two paper plates to hold up the slice! Overall, the pizza was warm, thin crispy crust, and well seasoned. If it wasn't seasoned to your taste, there's also a section near the cashier where you can top off your pizza with crushed red peppers, oregano, and more cheese. Brookline Spa is a staple in the heart of Brookline Village. I ordered a Buffalo chicken pizza to-go and boy was it mighty fine. Let me tell ya, the pizzas here are huge here. I feel like I could feed 8 people with this? Extremely full after 2 slices. Located on the corner of a busy street, parking out front can be tough but there's usually open meters on the other side of the street. It's definitely set up as a a to-go pizza joint, so don't plan on sitting-- no booths or seats to dine in, other than the standing room by the windows with a couple stools while you wait for your order. Been going to pizza spa for about 6 years now, The food has not been living up to expectations for the last few years. 65% of the time the food is good. 10% of the time its just ok and 25% its pretty bad, usually the meat we have issues with. Well tonight was one of those times again. Ordered a large meatball pizza and soon as I put it into my mouth the meat was bad, like either something mixed in or left out for way too long, rancid. Immediately spit it out and had to pick it off the entire pizza. We had had similar issues in the past with Chicken having big Veins in it/sticking out of it or it too tasting rancid. sauces tasting off. There is a lack in quality control. It is obvious to us that food is not handled well when putting it away or left out too long. So we decided this was our last night ordering from here sadly. Prices are ok'ish but not for the quality you are getting. Its like playing Russian roulette with your food and I dont want to take the chance of getting majorly sick. I've taken my children here several times for the excellent pizza. Today, my 4 year old was walking in holding a cup of m&ms when she tripped and fell, spilling them all on the ground. The foccacia bread was crispy throughout with the outer crust a bit too tough on the mouth. You're given 2 layers of moist, chicken cutlets. The chewy mozzarella was the bomb paired with the sriracha mayo. Everything melded well with very generous servings- I will be absolutely stuffed till tonight. Their chalk board menu is a bit tough to read with the cursive penmanship below the name of each of their sandwiches. Inside the place itself is cool, old fashion but redone tin ceiling which I love. Finished glossy wooden counter tops to really give that old time feel. The problem with the Spa is the lack of consistency. Sometimes things come out good, sometimes you get a mess that has been made terribly. Years ago you could always count on the Spa for a good basic meal, but that was a few owners ago. Currently you get high prices, inconsistent quality (like undercooked chicken or weirdly crunchy chicken, food that tastes old or not so fresh greens, "stuffing" on the Turkey sandwich which is just cooked bread crumbs...) frequently wrong orders (like wrong drinks in delivery, no salad dressing with your salad) and very long wait times. The menu is great and the staff is nice, but they really need to get a handle on quality control. They need someone overseeing the line cooks and checking the integrity of each order.I wouldn't go anymore except for it's proximity to my job. read more

I am from NY and we have a chic cutlet with fresh mozzarella roasted red peppers and broccoli Rabb sub/hero, the Beil St. looked similar and was very good, ordered it tonight. They got the contrast of the sweet tomato and the bitterness of the lettuce right, not the punch of the NYC staple but close and I would definitely get it again. This is hands down THE best place for phenomenal subs, the easiest 5 star review. I'm pedestrian and of course they have Tuna, but the "build your own" is perfect for me. Living right across from this place I just had to try them out and see if they were any good. The name is deceiving...you come here for food, not a spa treatment. They have sandwiches, salads, burgers, pizza, breakfast, and etc. However, I wouldn't recommend their breakfast burritos (2.5 stars) since they taste really bland and there's not much flavor to them, but they are filling. The Baconsfield burrito especially, is very eggy and the only real flavor you taste comes from the salt from the bacon...they are definitely missing a crucial component to put it all together. I normally get their chicken caesar salad and the chicken is always well-reasoned and cooked just right (I love getting it from here!). Their caesar dressing is also very creamy, but not too heavy so it so it doesn't overpower the rest of the salad. If you're in the mood for a sandwich, then the Reuben is a solid choice...they definitely stack that thing pretty high so you get your money's worth and it's prepared very nicely. Their pizza is all right, but it's definitely not something I could crave from there. I think their salad and sandwiches are where they excel the most, but not breakfast burritos. read more

Recently discovered this place on Grubhub. (It was a bodega when I was going to school across the street. It has been a while!) The pizzas are *huge*. Pizza is a very personal thing, but I really like the ratio of sauce, toppings and gooey cheese on a slice you have to fold in half to eat. Order a couple if you're having a party to keep everyone happy and fed. I'm working my way through the sandwich menu; the chicken salad with bacon is very tasty. Tried the onion rings today and they're thick cut (so you actually get onion in your onion rings), well breaded and crispy, and come accompanied with a spicy mayo. Yum! read more
