Almost all apartments at Hilarita property in Tiburon, CA (except for 2-3 apartments for EAH Housing employees and favorite tenants) have 50-year old broken and leaking single pane aluminum frame windows, black mold, cracked wooden structures, rusted hinges, blocked sewage pipes, etc. But elderly and disabled people on low fixed income need to live somewhere, don't they? It's still better than being homeless. That's why EAH Housing continues to get HUD's funding and does nothing to fix their properties. read more

EAH Housing took over management of my senior community about 2 years ago, and since then we have had 3 different managers. They have also cut many of the services we previously had, including PG&E rebates, security cameras on walkways, and our community library has been closed with no opening date given. My particular beef with them is that they don't seem capable of fixing a serious health and safety issue with a resident who feeds wild animals on her patio as well in public spaces, including raccoons and pigeons (dozens at times). Leaves the food and water out all night, and throws the dirty (pooped in) water out on the sidewalk and green space, which attracts not only more raccoons who fight over the food, but also mice and insects. I haven't found a way to convince them this is not acceptable and a threat to all the residents. Hoping this review will help! My advice: BEWARE. Do NOT rent/lease any unit in any community they manage without first checking review sites and getting current residents' input. read more

Unbelievable how many bad reviews I've seen for this EAH Housing!, I know a couple (both 76 yrs old) that's been living in one of those buildings managed by EAH for the past 2 yrs and the things they've told me is just exactly what I have read on the other reviews. It is awful how they're treating all these seniors leaving in those apartments. I have visited them maybe 3 times, the first time the elevator was NOT working, we used the stairs to go up, the carpet dirty/stained and smelled with cats' pee, it took about 2 mos before it was fixed. 2nd time elevator working but the smell was still there, no a/c in the elevator/hallways, no ventilation at all very stuffy and the 3rd time, elevator NOT working again. The laundry room has been out of service for the past 7 months, this location has had several broken bathrooms/sewer lines that smell so bad and it goes for months without being fixed. Rats climb on the outside walls up to the 2nd and 3rd floors to get inside the apartments, so disgusting!! This location, during the past 2 yrs my friends have been living there, has gone through 6 different managers and they do nothing to protect their residents, on the contrary, they close the office at 5pm Monday thru Friday, at night they have a "security guard" who falls asleep while on duty and in the weekend no one's there for the residents and yet the rent MUST be paid on time. Don't know if I will have enough space to continue completing this BAD review, but at least people can read some of the horrors I hear/seen and I really feel bad for my friends. What I don't understand is, if this location falls under Section 8, why isn't the government taking a look at it and make sure all is good? They're federally founded (tax payer's money)...what about sanitation? This location is in Los Angeles,CA...shame, shame, shame!!! read more

New visitor to their website. Found some great properties indicating "Waitlist Open". Great! I was unable to complete an application online (due to the application not allowing me to populate my info), so I opted to call the properties. One of the properties had a voicemail that said only one other property was open. The other property just said wait list closed. So, I wondered which was accurate....the voicemail or the website?? Neither property manager returned my call, so I chose to call their San Rafael corporate office....and, I also chose to submit a comment note on their website just in case I didn't get a return call from their office. Pleasantly surprised, I received a call from the corporate office from their Receptionist same day. She wanted to instruct me on how to find their website, but I explained...again after leaving her a voicemail...I was not having trouble with the website, I just needed to know if their website had updated & accurate information on their Wait List Open status? Or, if the property voicemail was the most up-to-date information? She said she would think so. Ha! I explained I wasn't getting a call back from the properties to indicate more clarification. I drove by the properties and wanted to at least pick up an application. She didn't know how to answer my questions and said there was no one else to talk to and that she had to go. I didn't mean to stress her out, but she needs to be a little more knowledgeable on these issues if no one from the properties will return a call. It just seems like simple good customer service to do so. No property should be that busy if you can't handle inquiries. I am not impressed and it's too bad because they seem to have some nice choices in California and Hawaii. But, maybe that's what happens when they have too many properties and no one knows what's going on and they can't keep up with the demand to simply update each Wait List status or even better, note the WAIT LIST OPEN date range! This would alleviate so many phone calls! Not a good representation of this business. And, after reading these reviews, I'll definitely steer clear!! Very sad! read more

Terrible place to work. Managment doesn't have a clue how to treat their employees or tenants. Property managers come and go because of the stress from upper management. Nobody lasts very long there. And the way they treat their tenants is shocking. All they care about is making money and trying not to get sued. They would send us to meeting to show us how to raise rents and cut services to tenants. Worst place to work. Long hours, low pay, no help from upper management. Even the HR people hate it there. Nike and Apple in Asia treat their employees better. Macky Terrace in Novato is one of the worst offenders. A totally inept property manager who offends everyone. And raises rents and laughs when giving residents free ice cream donated by the food bank. He and the HR woman try to make the tenants think that they are working for them while raising the rent. What's sad is the tenants there are all retired and are on fixed incomes. Eah will raise your rent yearly, and when they price you out, they kick you out. I would be embarrassed to tell anybody that I work for them. Eventually they will get what they deserve. read more

I have lived at San Clemente Place in Corte Madera for almost 5 years. When I first moved in, Manuel was the manager, and he was awesome. Then they replaced him with a woman and since she has been here the last 2 year's, I have never had so many unnecessary inspections, on which I have passed every time. Your privacy is constantly being violated, with the cameras they put in to basically use against you and not for the protection of the residents in any way. The office manager loves to talk to other residents negatively to other residents, as if the residents don't ever speak to one another. I am looking forward to the day I can move from this complex. I would never recommend this complex. It is just to much for anyone. The stress of always feeling as if you have to walk on egg shells, is ridiculous. read more

This is the WORST management company I have ever worked with. Despite getting subsidies from the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT to manage HUD housing they are inept at almost everything they do to the point where it is ILLEGAL. I know the CA Tenant Rights handbook from front to back and these folks either don't know what they're doing or they're so focused on profit for the CEO and upper management (who all make 6 figure salaries, I know because my property had a revolving door of managers and each one confided in me, about other residents--illegal--and also about their bosses). They manage properties of the most marginalized of us and take advantage of it as they know most people are too under resourced to fight. It's immoral, disgusting, and confusing how they sleep at night. Unfortunately, I know saying avoid these properties won't work as people are desperate for affordable housing. What I can say is fight for your rights, band together, yes landlords have so much power in this country but your life matters and you deserve to have safe and affordable housing. Call HUD on them as much as you can. You're not alone!!!! read more

I have lived in my apartment for about 6 years. About 1 and 1/2 years ago EAH took over as property management company. Repairs aren't getting done. I had a plumbing issue and it took 4 months for it to be repaired. The yard looks horrible. The office staff are incompetent and one of them lied to me. This was confirmed by a maintenance worker. They keep scheduling inspections and then not doing them. I personally would not recommend living in a property managed by them. Also they lost files that contain residents' names, ss numbers, dob. One of the worst management companies I've ever dealt with. They came into possession of the hilarita apts in tiburon a low income complex of just over 100 units. They have made promises for over 2 years about how they are going to do a complete interior and exterior remodel of the very old and in need of fixing buildings and nothing has happened. They received over $139,000 to replace all of the water heaters in the complex ( over a year and a half ago) and so far 6 have been done and no one knows where the money is. The hilaritas has an officially elected (league of women's election committee) resident group and they have been ignored since EAH took over. They have lied about ownership and resold the property twice to their own shell companies trying to set up a tax break to free up more money but each time they sell they are required by law to disclose to the residents that they are selling and they haven't. The residents or at least a majority would like to try and purchase the property themselves and they are blocking them at every turn. Or at least retrying to.
