    Filet/fish of the day

Ok... 4- in terms of stars (3 star overall experience). It is very clear by the decor that Eala Bhan considers itself to be the "best restaurant" in Sligo. There was a table that was so loud that an elderly couple demanded that they be moved (twice!!). The owner was called by the staff (who was gossiping about them the entire time that we were seated). Anthony -- whose picture adorns many walls in the restaurant -- arrived and surveyed the situation and had the awkward task of poorly controlling the rowdy table. He came around and asked us how we were doing and didn't really even apologize for the ambiance-killing experience that was happening right in front of him. A restauranteur who understands customer service would have made more of an effort to ensure that his customers believed the hype of being called the best restaurant in Sligo.

Five of us went to Eala Bhan while staying in Sligo and had one of the best meals we've had in Ireland, by far. Please refer to the photos to see the meals we had, in addition to a multitude of sides, all of which were delicious, beer, and wine. Eala Bhan doesn't have an enormous menu, but everything they do is superb. Steak, lamb, and fish are creatively and thoughtfully prepared. Portions are perfect, not too big, not too small. Service is professional and attentive without being overly solicitous. The restaurant is on the river and the views of the town are delightful. We were able to eat under an awning outside in case it rained; I'm not sure if indoor dining is available as of the time I'm writing this. Reservations a must.

Eala Bhan offers great value, fantastic food and lovely views from its windows over the river. You can get three courses for €20 with the Early Bird offer and the standard of the food at this price is excellent. We were even treated to a lovely little amuse bouche of swede and bacon soup...tres tasty! The fish dish I had was delicious; the salt cod and caper croquette added a nice twist on the classic and the chips were chunky and fluffy and crispy...perfect really! The milk chocolate cheesecake for dessert was devilishly indulgent but lighter than it looked. Would definitely recommend if you happen to find yourself in Sligo town on the banks of the Garavogue hungering for a good meal.

We had lunch here earlier this month during a weekend trip to Co. Donegal. The atmosphere is a bit on the nicer side but as it was lunch there were a few other patrons dressed more casually like us. While you can find cheaper meals in Sligo the quality cannot be beat. To start they brought out a butternut squash amuse bouche, which was surprisingly delicious. Our group next decided to share a few starters including the fish cakes, which were also tasty. For my main I had the chicken Kiev which was perfectly seasoned and beautifully presented. And to finish I had the peaches and cream dessert, which was so simple but also so flavourful. Hope to return!

If you are from Sligo or visiting, this place is a must. The food here is absolutely unreal. We had lunch and were welcomed in with no reservation. The decor is inspired by W.B Yeats, stunning. We had the "Duo of Posh Fish and Chips" , "Prawn Linguine" and the "Stroganoff" . A beautiful mix of contemporary Irish cuisine.

This place was amazing, for location, food and value. We booked a table and were lucky enough to get a window seat so had lovely views of the Garavogue river. The menu had a great range of options and was fantastic value for money with the early bird menu. The decor of the interior was delightful with swan motifs throughout and W.B. Yeats sprinkled liberally on the walls. We started with a demitasse of soup and complimentary bread, both of which were wonderful. For my starter I had a local beetroot carpaccio and Fivemiletown goats cheese fritters and for my main I had the duo of posh fish and chips which consisted of tempura battered fresh Atlantic cod with a cod caper croquette, garden pea puree, baby leaf salad and twice cooked fat chips. Both of these were incredibly good, as good as I've had. And for dessert, I had the carrot cake cookie ice cream sandwiches. This was not up to the previous standards of the night for me personally but this was probably my fault as it did say that the cookies were gluten free. Overall fantastic and a highly recommended option for Sligo town.

The best meal we had in Ireland. Deliciously made dishes, nice variety, good wine menu. Upscale ingredients, well-seasoned. Nice decor.

But you gotta go, every morsel of food here is as fresh as it could possibly be, seafood chowder to die for, and no matter what your menu selection would be it will be fabulous. The view is outstanding, you are on the hill looking right out at the ocean, all you can see is water, peaceful and unhurried this place is a haven. You have not experienced fish until you eat here. It is my #1 place to eat

My daughter and I travelled a long distance after seeing your advertisements stating that small pets are welcome in the bar area. We brought our small pedigree miniature Bichon, who I was carrying in my arms when we arrived. There was an unreserved table for two available inside, but we were told we had to sit outside. When I politely asked why we couldn't sit at the empty table, the manager snapped at us in front of other customers and said, "If you want to sit there, you need to order now," while handing us the menu. There were a number of people behind us waiting and others in the bar listening, which made the whole situation very embarrassing. As I started to read the menu, the manager then changed her mind and told us we could only order soup or chowder. We were no longer allowed to order anything else. I simply couldn't understand why we were being treated differently when there was an available table and your venue advertises that small pets are welcome in the bar. What upset me most wasn't just that we couldn't have a meal--it was the way we were made to feel. We had travelled a considerable distance in good faith, expecting a warm welcome, only to leave feeling embarrassed, singled out and unwelcome. As a dog owner, I find it deeply disappointing that genuinely pet-friendly hospitality is still so difficult to find in Ireland. Our dogs are part of our families. We don't expect special treatment--just honesty in advertising and to be treated with the same courtesy and respect as any other customer. We left without eating, feeling hurt and ashamed. I hope this review encourages a more compassionate approach towards customers who travel with well-behaved pets.

Opened the box with the mushrooms to find then literally laying in a layer of grease. I used 2 napkins to soak up the grease. The mushroom themselves were a dark brown, almost burnt to a crisp, and when you bite into them your mouth was soaked in grease :((. The seafood box: calamari was the opposite of the 'dead' mushrooms and pale as a ghost. Cod super greasy batter and not eatable like the mushrooms although the cod inside was flaky and good. Haddock was the best thing in the box both in flavour and batter, which was different to the cod. Fish and chips: batter same as above, very greasy but cod inside was good. The chips were totally bland.

The guy at the visitor's center told us about this place so we decided to give it a try. She is known for having the best seafood chowder in County Donegal (she won a competition). We tried to get it, but unfortunately, she was leaving for vacation the next day and had run out so we didn't get to try it. We all got the seafood box so we could try a little bit of everything. It came with calamari, scampi, haddock, cod, and chips. The calamari was the best I've had. The scampi was also delicious. The regular fish which I believe was haddock was very good. The fish sticks which I think were the cod were just ok. The chips were pretty good. You can also choose your sauce so I got the tartar and the pink sauce. I would probably do the scampi and calamari (half and half) next time. Everything is made fresh, so after you order you wait about 10 minutes for your food. It's cash only and there is an ATM across the street. There is no seating so we ate at the picnic table outside the visitor's center. We had fish and chips several times on our trip and this was definitely the best we had. If you are in the area, this is definitely a must try!
