We love Miss Norma, Miss Kay, and Mr. Ali! K's is a smaller day care center, which we have come to really appreciate. Our daughter (and really, all the children) get a lot of 1x1 attention from the teachers there. It's always nerve-wracking to bring your child into a new environment, but the team at K's was super supportive and actually really helpful in making sure our daughter transitioned to a new daycare environment in a way that made all of us, including her, feel comfortable. After only a few weeks, our daughter was right at home. They have structured "learning time" for infants, and our daughter typically comes home with a new art project almost every day which is so sweet. They have an AMAZING outdoor space - sand box, a ton of bikes, and a fantastic play structure for all the kids, so the kids get a lot of outdoor playtime which is something that was really important to us. Once they transition to pre-school, pre-K, they have a really great room for these older kids with a lot of space to learn/dance/share time/reading time/etc. Overall, Kay and her team are so fantastic. They truly care about each of the kids, know each child on a personal level, and have helped so much in advancing all the kids to the next "milestone" (quick side note - my daughter was 16 months when we started and WAS NOT WALKING - Kay promised within 1 month she would be...she was walking 3 weeks later). I can't picture our daughter anywhere else - Miss Kay, Mr. Ali, and Miss Norma are our family!

At first I didn't understand what he was saying so I asked him to repeat and he yelled we don't give rates over the phone and hung up on me. WOW! I wonder how they treat the children that go there if they can't even have a civil conversation with someone. This place looks cute from the outside and is very close to my house. We were lucky that for the first 3 years of our daughters life, we could rely on grandparents for complete childcare. When going to work, our minds were at ease knowing she had excellent care and attention at home. The downside was that at 3 years old, our daughter had not had much opportunity to socialize with other children or stay with an adult other than her grandparents or parents. We were of course, concerned that the transition to child care or school might be disastrous. I cannot be more satisfied with our decision to enroll our daughter at the Challenger School, Shawnee campus. We began with the summer school option, enrolling her in a half day program, 5 days a week when she was 3 years and a few months old. This was the perfect transition for a child who had no experience staying with other adults outside of family. Her cognitive, social, and emotional progress was visible immediately. That Fall, we enrolled her in a full day program in the 3 year old class. A year later, and we are still so happy with our experience. Our daughter will be enrolled in the 4 year old program for the 17-18 school year. While the curriculum and academic expectations are indeed rigorous, the staff is so incredibly loving, caring, and nurturing. The instruction is given in a way that engages the students through music and art. The children genuinely have fun while they learn and appreciate the structure and routine. We are always impressed with the work our daughter brings home. She is only 4 and can print her name, blend letters to phonetically read and write 3-4 letter words, add and subtract numbers, and so much more. Her experience is not unique as most if not all the students in her class can do the same. On top of this, every staff member from the administration, security guards, secretarial staff and teachers are excellent. I feel as though I am leaving my child with family. This is an incredibly important feature to me as I need to feel as though I am leaving my daughter in loving and capable hands when I drop her off to go to work. We have bonded with a number of parents from her class and get together for the kids birthday parties and other social events. I cannot imagine a better place for our child. The teachers (mostly young women with minimal experience in a classroom) are closely controlled by the administration (which has little to no classroom experience.) Creativity is discouraged, since it's expression would cut into the school's "cookie cutter" approach to education. Another note to consider: Challenger is a "(or profit" school; although I notice it is now using the word "Foundation" in its title. Consider the multiple options of schools in this valley before making a choice; there are many in our valley!

I have had the great pleasure of being a part of the Casa community for 5 years. My older child…read morewent through the primary program and completed kinder last year, and my daughter will finish kinder next spring. Throughout our years there we have been able to work closely with a majority of the primary teachers -and they are all amazing. Attentive, warm, thoughtful, patient, kind-they encompass all of the traits that I believe are important for teachers to possess. Both of my children have different personalities, and they were both able to thrive in the primary programs. The school provides a safe and loving environment where they are able to explore their interests, develop friendships, and master early childhood skills (like reading, writing and mathematics). The school fosters and promotes new interests, and they do a wonderful job of teaching the children so much more than just academic subjects. My children have learned about and been exposed to different cultures (their holidays and foods for example), countries, plants and animals and how to take care of their belongings. The school also has a wonderful sense of community-they offer multiple events throughout the year where all the families can come together, they host singalong events biweekly where the parents can join, and they make it very easy to be involved with the school as much (or as little) as you like. If I ever have a question or concern the teachers/head of the school/staff in general have always made me feel heard, and like my opinion is important. My entire family has benefited from our time at Casa (in more ways than one), if you are considering a Montessori education or looking for a primary program then I highly recommend visiting this school.
