My electricity bills are now incredibly low to practically non-existent, and I couldn't be happier with the overall results. Sheryl and Zach were fantastic to work with from start to finish. They are incredibly thorough. For example, when our original REC panels couldn't be sourced due to a production shortage, they quickly pivoted to Maxeon panels. Zach actually came out to measure my roof twice just to guarantee the new layout would fit perfectly, and they recalculated our system's capacity to ensure we got the best setup. A couple of minor issues came up along the way, but this is where their customer service really shined: During installation: A wire was left exposed instead of inside a conduit. From the start, they seemed uninterested in earning my business -- communication was minimal, and their attitude felt indifferent, as if they were overloaded and didn't need new customers. While she stated she would provide a quote, none was ever sent. On the expansion this year, they squeezed the job in before the holidays and the expiration of the Fed tax rebates. Zach, the GM, was very responsive to couple issues on the Tesla Powerwall 3, which I wasn't able to get Tesla's tech support directly, despite multiple attempts. He also reprogrammed the Span panel to accommodate the additional breakers for the new heat pump systems, which I couldn't do on the Span owner's app. The only inconvenience was the delay on both jobs, due to their long pipeline. From administration and working with the County, PG&E on approvals through execution, the project went off without a hitch. We had been looking to install solar for over a year, and talked to several companies about the process, equipment, and options for our house. We only have a 100-amp main panel, but Earth Electric was able to work with what we had without us needing to upgrade our grid service. The entire process, from talking to Sheryl (the CEO and our main contact) about what we wanted, to site inspection, permitting, installation, inspection, and interconnect with PG&E all went smoothly. We live in Sunnyvale, which has strict permitting, but the plans and work done by Earth Electric passed city inspection with flying colors. It took about 6 months from the time we contacted Earth Electric until everything was done, which is the timeline we expected based on our many conversations with solar companies, and we were also told up front by Earth Electric. We have 12 panels and battery storage sufficient for whole-house backup. We had a little issue associated with an integrated charger, but they dealt with it promptly and replaced the cable. We recently completed our solar panel project with Earth Electric and I have nothing but praise for this company and their in-house crew (they do not subcontract), led by Sheryl and Zach. I started my solar project in Jan 2023 (almost 18 months ago). The house we bought has a metal tile roof, so most of the common installers like Sunrun, Tesla, Sunpower etc. declined to install panels on this kind of roof. I started reaching out to local installers instead, and Earth Electric caught my eye thanks to their stellar reviews. I had done a fair bit of online research about solar before I started, so I had plenty of questions in the very first call I had with Sheryl. She patiently answered all of them and walked me through the whole process, including how to get into NEM2 before the deadline. It felt like a frank discussion with someone really knowledgeable about their field rather than a sales pitch. Zach came by few days later for a site visit and of all the other installers I met, he was the only one who took the effort to get on the roof to make sure it was ready to install panels. Earth Electric's quote wasn't the lowest I had, but that kind of due diligence and honest dialogue was what ultimately convinced me to go ahead. Then came the hardest part - dealing with PG&E. My main service panel was old and needed upgrading to a solar ready panel, which was also included in my contract. Earth Electric got the NEM2 application approved and accepted well before the deadline and submitted the panel upgrade request. PG&E came back saying they needed to upgrade the transformer in my neighborhood before I could connect my solar to the grid. After that came a long wait of over a year while PG&E went through their process of engineering designs, city permits, finding contractors etc. Through it all, Sheryl kept personally following up with PG&E helping to keep the project moving. After PG&E was done in June 2024, the actual installation went smoothly even though it was going to be a somewhat complex project. The new electrical panel was to go onto a wall adjacent to the old panel so it needed all the old wiring to be connected through to it. The main PG&E power lines had to be moved to a new masthead on the roof, which needed co-ordination with PG&E for the wire swing. The solar panels were up within a couple of days while the main panel upgrade was ongoing. The crew was thoroughly professional and were done within a couple of weeks. They did an excellent job including all the stucco work in place of the old panel. City inspection passed without any problems, and we received the PTO from PG&E within a day of final inspection. From the day I signed the contract 18 months ago, Sheryl stayed in regular contact with me, and I don't think I could have gotten better service and more personalized attention anywhere else. We evaluated over 20 solar installation companies from phone calls, Yelp reviews, and word-of-mouth. We invited 3 for an on-site visit and chose Earth Electric. This has been our experience: BEFORE INSTALLATION Sheryl Lane, the co-owner, patiently answered many, many questions. And then a few more. Her first estimate was the optimal-sized system for our needs. Other companies low-balled the system size to appear less expensive. When estimates were compared for the same size systems, some of these "less expensive" systems were quite a bit more. Earth Electric bid the best component parts (lowest failure rates) with the best warranties in the industry. Earth Electric was courteous, informative, and provided clear and timely communication. No game-playing. Zach, the co-owner, came for a site visit. He was very thorough and clearly explained what had to be done for a safe installation that would pass inspection. From Zach's visit, Earth Electric drew up engineering plans, submitted an application for a permit to our city, and continued to follow the progress of the application until it was approved. Due to having completed a fair number of installations in our city, they were familiar with the process, and the time frame. When we signed the contract and gave a deposit, we were given an estimated start date. Due to early completion of projects ahead of ours, Earth Electric was able to start our job 1.5 weeks earlier than anticipated. Shopping for solar isn't a cheap and easy decision. I was referred to Earth Electric from my friend who got solar for his home from them. Also, through my own research, I found them to have a good amount of installs under their arm, along with current and future projects. (My dad went with Tesla for his home, which I managed the whole project for him, and I was not happy with their service and install, therefore led me not to choose them for my home).
