This was the first place we visited in the city of Johnson City, Tennessee. For health food store this place exceeded our expectations. We nearly found everything that we needed to complete our Thanksgiving event coming up. The store features of selection is really immense. Even though that a lot of the items here are pretty much hard to find , it is unfortunately really expensive! I do enjoy the hot food section and it even have soups here too. The store features so much. Staff here is also pretty friendly too. Checkout lines can't be very long too unfortunately. The store is pretty loud as well and it's not too quiet but is a very peaceful environment. read more

I enjoyed my visit here. It reminded me of a cross between a smaller grocery store and The Fresh Market. Many organic and healthy choices there; especially in meats. I ended up going 2x in one day as I stopped and bought some items and my wife wanted to go back for Jenni's Ice Cream. First off, if this store were out west, I'd give it two stars. The competition for organic food out there is fierce. But here in all of eastern TN, this is pretty much the only place that has a fairly wide selection of good, organic produce. The stock in the rest of the store is hit or miss with many items out of stock on occasion. I think there must have been some training of personnel because service is MUCH improved from several years ago when apathetic would have been a compliment. This has turned shopping here from an unpleasant, almost scary experience to the opposite. I will do anything to support this place as once it's gone, there's nothing to take its place. read more

What an amazing grocery store! We wanted a healthy lunch while traveling and stopped here. They have a healthy salad bar and also have a hot bar. We were able to make our lunch from the salad bar. So healthy and fresh. Lots of nuts and pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds! I wish they had some beans on the bar but they didn't. Absolutely Horrible customer service at the Johnson City, TN location. An employee there (David) obviously hates his job and hates working with customers. He is probably the reason there are never more than 3 or 4 customers in the store. If you tell Earth Fare corporate he just gives them a line of BS and blames everything on the customers. The employees at the store seem to be very considerate and respectful. This place always has a certain type of atmosphere that draws you back. The shelves always look great, stocked and organized. I really enjoyed perusing this grocery store. One thing that stuck out to me was the selection of homeopathic remedies! It was unbelievable. In the past, I've had to take the chance on Amazon's selection, so it was great to actually see so many options in a brick and mortar. Prices here seem to range, but the selection really is great. I found everything I needed, and was actually overwhelmed with so many options (who knew electrolyte drinks had so many options to choose from??). I shopped this store about ten years ago. It's over an hour away, but my friend introduced me to this location and ten years ago it was amazing - sadly, not now. The store is not clean. The employees were standing around as though they had nothing to do - possibly clean the store??!! The prices were MUCH higher than Ingles, Lowes and Publix. The quality has plummeted. I wonder what in the world the management must be thinking to allow the store to be 1) so unclean 2) so uninviting 3) so unappealing- no beautiful autumn displays, no joy for the season....the last time I was in that store, it smelled like Autumn, looked gorgeous with Autumn decor and specials ( even tiny samples of the pumpkin spice coffee they sell and which I bought!) and was, generally, just great. I had a problem with the cashier being rude and rough placing order into the Bags,when we got home she had broken a bottle of castile soup all over our stuff and in the back of our 2 week old Suv! When i call back the Mgr refused to tell me her Name! She said Corp policy supported her Finally she yelled her name and asked what I wanted in a loud voice i hung up and called The Asheville Store to tell me who to contact, The GM in Asheville had the GM in Johnson City call me.This is where it gets strange.He tells me they have a stalking problem thus the no name rule,and the clientele is lower class than I Would have assumed,he told me there where vagrants in his cafe at the moment. The bottom line is,if this place is so dangerous they do not tell their NAMES than it is too Dangerous for my family to be there ,if this is so they need to hire security. Just moved back to the area and this is the store i missed. Love their brand items, premade bakery & deli. Will need to check if they have fresh beef bones to make bone broth. Large selection of cheeses, wine, olives. Better prices than that other health store. Friendly service, good hours. While others want fatty fast food if i take the time to park & run in, for the same price & time i can get an entree & two sides that's very filling at the deli area snd you can ask to sample any of their dishes behind the counter except the bakery. My husband loved the tiramisu & i look for the tiny cupcakes or an specials on sweets. There's lots of food choices at the food bar ny the oz, packaged in the refrigerated section, & good selection of fresh produce. This is my favorite grocery store. read more

Bought a $25 box of Organic Rose yesterday. I just tried it after chilling well overnight, and It is dreadful. Noticed the date: August 24, 2021. Clearly it should not have been on the shelf. When I called the response was, "Sorry, we do not give refunds on alcohol", even though the fault was theirs for not clearing it from the shelf. I live 1.5 hours away and would have driven it back for the much deserved refund. My warning....be wary or better yet, stay away. read more

OK, I like good food. And I like trying new things. You get both at Earth Fare. I know that some folks are attracted to the healthy living, organic-everything, and "real food" aspect of EF, and that's great. I come here for food and atmosphere. The deli counter, salad bar, and drink/snack selection are really good. The butcher shop meats and cheese offerings are amazeballs! OK, I also like 21st century hippies, and this is a great place to shop and have lunch with the best of our crunchy granola neighbors, strict vegans, ethical shoppers, and people who like good food. I'm having an issue with my loyalty club points thing-a-ma-jig, but that may be self-induced and I have a query in about it. They have something for any kind of diet or restriction(s) as far as I can tell. For me, when I'm low-carbing, there usually aren't any soup options, but that's the case almost anywhere. The soups here always smell great, and they really mix it up with the prepared dishes, salads, and meals. You get seasonal variety, and trust that they source everything with health and ethics at the forefront of the process. So, without being too uppity about it, we can feel pretty good about spending money here. Well, there's the thing, you pay for all of this, maybe a bit more than the local bulk/cheapest supplier store, and to some that might be enough to steer clear. Really, for a salad bar-meal, I've found it to usually be about $20 for 2 to get a good giant bowl of food and a drink each. Here's the skinny: it's one of the coolest spots for a quiet dinner after 7 in town, there's rarely a wait or a line, and we like to do a date night here occasionally. Yes, really. Think coffee shop meets hippie mart meets gourmet buffet. Lunch time, especially weekdays, can sometimes get crowded, and you might have to wait for your favorite booth or table. A word about parking - please don't try to turn left out of the lot onto Greenwood. You'll just clog up traffic, have to start on a hill, and feel like you are risking your life to do it. You can't see the cross traffic very well, and it's just rude. For the love of Christmas, if you have to go that way, just exit on State of Franklin and get into the left turn lane for Greenwood. It'll probably be faster in the long run. Most folks learn this after a time or two, others stubbornly think that they'll be able to do it this time, and nearly cause 4 accidents every time they do. RUDE EMPLOYEE I love my local Earth Fare it is always super clean and has a great selection. Normally, the staff is super nice however one employee under the name Mar was so rude! As I was browsing the front sections I heard her berating her co-worker and you could clearly tell the other girl was very anxious. From the sound of it, the girl was new and Miss Mar left her up front. When I finished my shopping I was rung up by no one other than Mar and she acted very irritated that I was there as if it isn't her job. I was very disappointed with this experience as I know this is not my Earth Fare. I've come back several times since and have noticed the same behavior from her. read more

I purchased 3 steaks today. When I got home and took them out, they were brown and smelled borderline. There were sticky and tacky with a sweet smell. After a quick search on google, we found these are things to look for when meat has gone bad. I went to return the meat and was told by the manager (who looked really young) that he had just cut the meat today and this was typical of grassfed beef. He refused to give me a refund. My daughter said she had just gone in the week before. While she was checking out a lady came in to return rotten salmon. She also had purchased food that was rotten. Sorry, EF, you all have gone downhill since you reopened. I did tell the manager that I would cook them and would see if they are bad. My daughter will do it. Hope we don't get sick. I would hate to have to sue you guys over 30$ worth of steak. read more

There is just something about this particular location that is lacking. Since moving here I been here about 5 times. 3 out of the 5 times I ended up leaving without actually purchasing anything. So managers please take note that you guys are losing money. They usually only have 1 or 2 lanes open at the most and the cashiers really take their sweet time checking customers out. I was in there recently on a Sunday at 2 in the afternoon hoping to grab a nice coffee before I went to work. Every single coffee in the urns were ice cold. Their coffee/ juice bar was closed for some reason so I couldn't get anyone to make me a fresh coffee. I don't want to support Starbucks but the negligence here is leaving me with little options. This place could do a lot better based on comparison to their other locations. read more

This so called "business" is one of the worst in organic, whole foods, grocers. The specific branch in johnson city is laughable due to many reasons, the top one being the children that manage and inventory this store are completely clueless and half ass at best in both inventorying and customer service etiquette. I have been a customer at the branch johnson city tn facility for at least 5 years now but NO MORE. I have had enough of their stupidity and am now only shopping at their competitor just down the street. There are many reasons for this but the top priority reason for doing so is because within the past 2 years, on each consecutive visit to the earth fare store, there are ALWAYS a multitude of shelf items NOT available because quite obviously the inventory personnel do not have a clue what they are doing. For example, one week out of approximately a 3 month period, this store might have ordered and stocked vanilla flax milk, but for the other 11 months there is absolutely no vanilla flax milk stocked. The same problem applies to the cold brew coffee brands, hemp milk brands, honest tea brands, and the list goes on and on without end, including even the organic meat section. Just today (7.8.19) I was told by a butcher that I was probably the only one who bought the "party wings" brand of chicken and that earth fare tries not to order it because of their bottom line supply/demand quotient. ??? ??? This jackass was very obviously lying and therefore following the bad example of his co-"workers" as well as his superiors, whom all have lied about their slacking restocking activity to avoid accepting responsibility for it and instead just fixing it. All of them have been caught in contradictory statements about why they will NOT keep their shelves properly stocked in a timely manner. IF the inventory/stocking schedule is dictated by what sells best then why carry low volume selling inventory at all if they're only going to make a half hearted attempt at ordering/stocking it? These guys look like complete amateurs not to mention the fact they have a very bad reputation for being slackers and/ or greedy to the point that they refuse to cater to specific people who want specific brands. Because of the fact that I've already been through this repeatedly and talked to at least 2 different so called "managers" about the obvious problem they are nurturing/enabling I will no longer be shopping at any of the earth fare stores ANYWHERE. One of the district managers I spoke to via emails even tried to lie to me on 2 separate occasions about their stocking schedules and when confronted with his inconsistent excuses he just stopped answering further questions. Not only that but I'm going a few steps further and voting down their consumer ratings online at Yelp, yellow pages, Google, etc. This is a no brainer subject for which earth fare should not need its hand held to determine an EFFICIENT solution, specifically for a timely restocking schedule. But the bad attitudes of the staff, which is mostly children, are yet another reason for steering clear of this highly unprofessional store. This market is over an hour from my home, but I like the product selection, humanely raised cows, pigs and chickens and typically great produce. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because in the past 8 months I have shopped there I have yet to find everything in stock. Even on day 1 of an ad, a significant number of items are not on hand. The rain checks are good for 2 weeks and I try to make this drive monthly, not again a few weeks later, so that is often a zero value rain check. Always clean and a friendly staff, loads of parking and easy to access from the highway, but I wish they kept things better stocked. read more

Being from the retail trade, and in Grocery at that, I have to say I really enjoy the overall format of Earth Fare market. Compared to the conventional stores I've had to shop in in Johnson City, I have to say it surpasses all but Fresh Market in selection, and certainly with health/organics in mind. I'm happy to shop in a store that is like a mini-Whole Foods here on the East Coast, which I miss so much being originally from California. This Earth Fare is pretty predictable in regards to great quality food, sustainably sourced, etc., but the problem with this location is a lack of clerks. We consistently have to wait in a line of 5 or 6 patrons and it takes way longer than it should. Clearly, this is no fault of their own but appears to be a management problem. Somebody told me that I could get a really good Taramac ginger tea here, I drove about 15 minutes to get here and they were sold out! So I decided to get some dinner and eat in the dining room I went over to get some kombucha tea my favorite type was sold out! When I went to eat in the dining area I couldn't find a clean table, so I decided to go outside and eat the food was good but had many disappointments getting to this point. I love coming here to pick up certain grocery items that you can't find at other local chains. The lunch options are typically better and with daily deals are a way better option than local fast food or set down chains as well. The only issue I have here is lack of employees. I have rarely seen more than one cash register open and this is bad during lunch hours. I came today on my lunch break and waited 30 minutes to get throughout the line due to only one cashier and people trying to buy lunch and normal groceries. I would rate higher if they would fix this issue but until then it takes way too long to get through. read more

This place is a very cute organic store. It's a lot like whole foods, just a smaller version of it. I'm super happy this place has smoothies, coffee and Togo food. More so for the smoothies because there really isn't a lot of places around here for some. They also have a lot of variety for vitamins, natural lotions, workout supplements and herbs which is great for someone who needs/wants to be more particular in what they ingest. Also, a lot of the natural stuff they have here is easier on the stomach. Definitely recommend going here if you're looking for more than what the other grocery stores offer in terms of organic, vegan, gluten free, etc foods. read more

Hurray for Earth Fare! This is a great place to shop for all the ingredients that you cannot find at other grocery stores or to find a huge selection of organic good. The staff is always super friendly and you can always find a variety of samples to try while shopping. Worst Earth Fare I have ever been to and I have been to most locations. Due to my job I travel in regions where Earth Fare has stores and I have shopped at most of them. I typically find the food fresh, employees helpful and friendly. I visited the Johnson City store for the first time today at 6pm and went to the fish counter. I stood there for about 10 minutes. Although the counter person saw me waiting and there were no other customers, he went into the back meats room and came out ten minutes later. He then says to me " What can I do you for Bud! " I asked him several questions about the fish I wanted to buy and he knew nothing about it and the two pieces he had looked terrible. He didn't offer to get another piece or try to help in anyway very rude, and unprofessional. Then I saw the prepared foods counter in the deli area with salads etc that looked like that had been there all day. Some of the chicken salads were noticeably brown on the outside. They either don't do much volume or mix the new into the old. The salad bar had several salad items that looked old and wilted and some selections were almost empty not being refilled. The soup bar had ALL SOUPS at about 25% and some were burned and thick on the bottom of the container. This was at prime time about 6:10 on a Wednesday. The man at the fish counter has some facial scarring to simply allow others to identify him. Other Earth Fares have had courteous, friendly people with freshly prepared foods. This one is a total loser with obviously a terrible manager. I would find it hard to find a reason to ever visit this store again. read more

Earth fare's holding company has spit in the face of Veterans. The over-priced chain used to give military discounts of 10% daily, not only have they removed the discount as of February 9, 2015 to one day a week, they lowered it by half to 5%. They have eliminated many organic items from their shelves and their warehouse is constantly out-of-stock on staples like eggs and milk. What is worse, employees are mumbling to customers about their benefits being cut and hours being limited. I went in the other night and was told their is no one in the specialty department because of too many hours and I could not get a question answered about a cheese I needed. This is a perfect time for Whole Foods to come to the Tri-City area. Earth Fare used to be a good store with a vision that was shared by many organic and health seeking people. Now it is an over-priced Kroger with unhappy employees. Nice job new CEO! I am a mother of four and strive to feed them the best unprocessed food I can afford. good food and such but no longer do they carry bread from Scratch. they tried raising the price(of scratch bread) without even asking and then made Scratch buy back all the stale bread nobody bought. It was then that scratch divorced the company and become much happier. read more
