It was our first time at The Farm Fresh Market in Johnson city, TN. The store is a bit upscale version of Wegmans. I loved their bakery and deli selections. We got chicken salad which was very good. We enjoyed the beef pot pie. Since it was my birthday month I got a free slice of cake. You can sign up online and request either vanilla or chocolate cake. The frosting was very creamy. We also selected a few other sweet treats such as a strawberry shortcake, huckleberry cheesecake and a petit chocolate bomb. All were delicious. We will definitely return again over the Christmas holidays. read more

This place is equivalent to Whole Foods. It is kind of pricey... I definitely stood out in a t-shirt and jeans, getting funny looks. They did have yogurt that I saw on tiktok that isn't at other stores. They have a lot of different kinds of cheeses that you won't find anywhere else either. Good selection of items that you wont find at other places. Worth checking out. But if you get items from the olive bar... make sure they bag that separately because they put the container on its side and the juices spilled all over my other stuff. read more

A wonderful, boutique market, The Fresh Market reminds me of shopping at Whole Foods when I used to live in Dallas. I'm happy there is a similar market located in the Tri-Cities area. During my first visit, I just soaked in the place and made any mental notes of things I could come back for. I did find a fig spread brand that I often purchased at Kroger in Dallas, but couldn't find it after moving here. Happy that Fresh Market carries it! I like that they carry brands that are not commonly found in grocery markets in the area. I will return to shop their prepared meals - they looked appetizing. read more

Hard to believe all the 4&5 star reviews. The prices at The Fresh Market are insane. Last year I noticed 90% of the packaged items in the bakery were marked $5.99 and up. Four donuts for $5.99? This year 4 donuts will cost $6.79. That's $20.37 for a dozen plus tax. I regularly buy the original French rounds. A few years ago it was $3.99, and the container was full. Two years ago it was $4.99, last year $5.99, this year $6.99, and on their website it's $7.89. To boot, the container is maybe 3/4 full. The same item, same size container, is $3.49 at Earth Fare. Malted milk balls are $9.99/lb. A pound of Whoppers is $3.45. Are they really worth almost 3 times the price? These are just 3 items in the store. Just saying . . . . . . read more

Fabulous market. Haven't found anything else this high end for groceries anywhere in eastern Tennessee. Have tried baked goods (darn good, rolls better than home made) pies almost as good as homemade. Meat was a little pricy but still had some good priced sale items. Great selection of Prime beef! Good cheese selection and some of the best fruits and vegetables we have seen since we left the west coast where so much was locally grown. Went to the one in Knoxville and will certainly now try the one in Johnson City. read more

Unfortunately, the TRI region doesn't have an Erewhon or Whole Foods, but this little boutique grocery store makes shopping for nutrient dense food and snacks a very pleasurable experience. When you first walk through the entrance, you are greeted with floral scents from the plethora of fresh flowers on offer here. In what may be a surprise to some, this is one of the best places in town to procure flowers for that special someone in your life. Around major holidays, they have multiple people preparing fresh bouquets throughout the day. The fresh flowers coupled with an inviting ambiance helps to create the optimal shopping experience. I'm not one who normally enjoys shopping for groceries, but I always enjoy my visits to Fresh Market. I highly recommend their excellent selection of coffee, grass-fed beef, and wild caught salmon. read more

The snobby middle aged lady running the coffee counter is a bit of a drag but as long as you stay out of her way and dont look at the coffee sample cups or look at her you will make it just fine through this wonderful world of food. This is a wonderful little grocery store. It's a mini version of Whole Foods and it may even be better than that. It's very clean and neat; and it is well laid out with a central bar where you can buy pre-prepared food, and a great variety of cheeses. The produce is very fresh. It's far, far superior to the local Kroger's offering. They have a good variety of coffee beans, international foods and American staples. The bakery deserves special mention. The breads and deserts are sensational. The service also deserves special mention...It's not that flash. We asked one man where we could find soaps and shampoos. His response was "I don't know if we have that". Then he wandered away. The checkout operator was equally vague. And that explains why The Fresh Market only gets four, rather than five stars. It's a great place and, next time you need to buy $70 worth of groceries for $100, you should go along. Yes it's expensive, but well worthwhile, and a definite five star business if only they can manage to improve the quality of floor service. read more

This is a whole lot of "vibe" for not even that clean of a store. This market wants terribly to be a sprouts or Whole Foods... the problem is those businesses try to keep to a mission... (I say try, because most of us know otherwise) overpriced products full of horrid ingredients. I'll drive to the "tomato place" down the street instead. read more

By far the best grocery store I have been to in all of Tennessee. Now this is what I'm talking about. I have been traveling for several months throughout Georgia, South and North Carolina, and now Tennessee. Being a girl from Chicago I guess well... I'm used to a different caliber of grocery stores. I know that makes me sound snobby but seriously. I had No Idea!!! Spoiled meat etc... Anywho I digress. This is an A + grocery. Super fresh produce, meat, deli, specialty foods, cheese, sushi etc. Probably not a one stop shop if your looking for name brands you may find at your other grocers. But if you like Organic, and fine foods this is definitely the Market of choice! Just lovely. read more

Fresh Market is the closest thing to Trader Joe's in this area which I dearly miss!!! You can tell that fresh is the operative word the moment you step inside. You smell freshly brewed coffee which you can enjoy while you are shopping. The produce department gets top marks from variety. I really love the deli department - if you are looking for quality prepared sandwiches you won't find any better in the area. High quality meats, vegetarian and cheese options are your choice of fresh breads and buns. Excellent selection of salads and sides as well. The whole market is well laid out and feels good as you go about your shopping. Great selection of beer as well -- one of the biggest for a market of craft brews. Best general-purpose grocery store in the Tri-Cities. The atmosphere is worth mentioning: never super-crowded, no harsh florescent lights, only hard to navigate if people are parked admiring the fresh organic produce or the supple meat case (that happens a lot, but understandably so). The selection of high-quality produce and meats is excellent. You can find everything from great selections of common items like onions and potatoes, to harder-to-find items like jicama and radicchio. In the meat case you'll find one of the best selections of seafood in the area and house-cut/ground meats--and if the case is out, they can and will cut/grind you more. That leads me to a few words about their staff. These are not ordering grocery store employees, with all due respect. Their meat department is stocked with people who know their meat backwards and forwards and take pride in their craft. Their deli is highly attentive to detail and knowledgeable about their products. Their sushi chefs are surprisingly among the best in the area and will make you any roll package you want, including their huge and properly-priced party platters (28 pieces of nigri for less than $40!) Even their cashiers/baggers are properly trained to group meats with like meats, pantry items with pantry items, dairy with dairy, produce with produce, etc. I could go on and on about the selection. The in-house barkery--fantastic, including the professional-level dessert case. The selection on the shelves especially caters to food allergy sufferers and fans of exotic cuisine like Thai and Ethiopian. The "snack" selection is deliberately healthy. I dare say shopping her exclusively has FORCED our family into a healthier diet, and that's wonderful. Be forewarned, you're buying high-quality stock and getting a high-quality experience, and you're paying for it, but not outrageously so. And their rotating weekly specials often allow you to get items that are in-season at bargain prices. This especially comes in handy around the holidays, when they have FRESH cranberries, pumpkins, winter squash, and special order whole turkeys, quails, ducks (mmmmm duck), capons, cornish hens, rack of lamb, rib roasts, and other traditional favorites available for your family cooking needs. Their $2.99 Tuesdays are the absolute best deals you'll find on three key products: for less than you would pay for Food City or Wal-Mart meat, you get high-quality, grass-fed ground beef and antibiotic-free boneless chicken breasts. For the kiddos, you also get quality, healthy-ish frozen pizzas at a deep discount (I mean, pizza's pizza, but at least this is made of quality ingredients). Another great deal worth mentioning is their weekly Little Big Meal, which allows you to cook for four people for $20 and have a very nice meal. I LOVE their pizza meal deal (seeing a theme here) which allows my 4- and 2-year-old to help me construct really good, healthy-adjacent pizzas to suit everyone's taste (cheese for the littlest, pepperoni for the big sister, veggies for mommy, maximum meat for daddy). After a mayor power outage in Johnson City and all the restaurants closing I stopped in here to get something to eat. This grocery store is nice a clean and very well taken care of reminds me of a smaller ( whole foods ) grocery store. Beautiful produce and meats/fish and good service but BEWARE OF THE CREDIT CARD FEE. Even with the high prices at this store, this place actually charges you a FEE to use your credit card!! I used to shop here whenever I visit Johnson City (which is once a month) and would always spend at least over $100 here. I loved the selection of produce and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. However, I feel offended at the new credit card fee. I understand that retailers pay a fee to the credit card companies for credit card transactions, but the sky high prices at this store (and thus the profit margin) provides no excuse for passing this fee to the customer as an extra fee when paying. I will be visiting the Earthfare down the street from now on. read more
