We were aiming for a natural birth experience in a hospital setting, and the Bradley Method has a great reputation for fully preparing women and their partners. When we told the OB we were taking a Bradley Method class, she was very pleased - in her experience, it's been the absolute best preparation for natural birth. We had a phenomenal birth experience, and I credit the class with Megan and Jordan completely. We learned so much from them and were given so much confidence in ourselves. My husband was a full participant because he had been through the class with me, and knew all the ways to support me during the weeks leading up to delivery and during labor. We ended up with a beautiful, healthy baby without any pain medication or other interventions. We knew exactly what to expect at each step of the way, and we were able to be calm and actually enjoy the event. All of the nurses at the hospital commented on how remarkably relaxed we were - that was a state of mind and approach that we learned and practiced with Megan! Participating in a Joy Love Birth class was by far the best investment of time or money we've ever made. Childbirth is an event you'll remember forever, and being well-prepared and in control will make all the difference in the world as far as how you look back on it. Not every type of birth class will prepare you to feel like your own body is in control of the delivery, and I'm so grateful that we found one that did.

We wanted to know what was going on, what was going to happen, and what we could do to keep mama and baby healthy and safe throughout! Megan was PHENOMENAL!!! We both looked forward to class every single week - each lesson offered a gold mine of valuable, applicable information that was passionately delivered by Megan and her husband, Jordan. After each class, my husband and I would talk for hours about what we learned and felt inspired to dive into more research about evidence based birth. There were times when she was right there kneeling on the floor with me adding essential oils to my shower that brought peace to my body and soul and always had a warm washcloth to keep me from getting cold, times when she squeezed my back and hips to help steady the power rushing through, times where she sweetly and reverently watched over us as my husband did his best to support me. Every minute, she was in tune with the process. Though the labor was a long one, I never doubted our mission because of her presence. She is a truly amazing guardian of the birth experience. My husband and I felt so safe in the hospital setting and at home with her on our team. Also, her ability to build up a wonderful rapport with the medical staff helped create a harmonious and happy setting for the birth. I didn't have a good birthing experience at Kaiser - I went into Kaiser with full intention of…read moreepidural but Kaiser didn't believe I was advancing fast and they asked me to wait until it was too late for epidural; what's worse was they didn't wait for my planceta to come out so they manually removed my planceta without any pain meds. Painful isn't enough to describe the experience. Pregnant with my second son, I didn't want to repeat the experience. Knowing I am likely birth fast again, I wanted to go without pain meds again, with as much help I can get, and natural birth of the planceta. I reached out to Tashina pretty late in my pregnancy. Knowing my situation, she responded to my email right away and managed to squeeze me into her schedule. She did a very thorough interview with me and my husband, fully understood what experience we are looking for and made amazing recommendations. She recommended me with a hospital I wasn't aware of that has great staff and with midwifery care. Since I was late stage pregnant (32+weeks), she pulled all her strings to help the new hospital accept me as a patient. And all the way up until the delivery date, she was only one text/call away for any questions I had. The birth was still painful, but with the midwifery care, Tashina's preparation with me and my husband, the hot tub setup, and her being there as my advocate, the birth was quick, smooth, and no manual extraction of placenta! My second son was almost 8lbs and no tear or stitches. Even weeks after birth, Tashina came visit and always checked in with me to help me with breastfeeding issues, baby colic issues etc. Tashina is so knowledgeable, caring and loving. We will always appreciate her help and she will always be a special person in my second sons life!

I had to have two ECV's performed around the time of my due date because my baby kept turning breech. As a doula, she is extremely capable, professional, and supportive. When I first connected with Shalin via videochat for a consultation, she instantly made me feel comfortable. I decided to go with Shalin based on how experienced and knowledgeable she seemed, as well as how comprehensive her doula services package was. Over the course of my pregnancy, Shalin visited my house several times to educate my husband and me about the birthing process, evidence-based approaches to birth, and different ways to prepare my body for birth, and to go over my birth plan. The whole process made me feel really prepared for the birth and gave me a greater understanding of what I wanted for the birth. I also appreciated that I got to know Shalin more during the pregnancy so that she didn't feel like a stranger at all. In fact, she is so warm and friendly that she felt more like a friend! She didn't push any particular views on me but wanted me to feel supported in my birth preferences.  When I went into early labor, Shalin was very responsive and kept checking in on me to see how labor was progressing, and when we decided to go to the hospital, she was super quick to meet us there. She was prepared in every way and set up lights and candles for the room. The hospital room was a vibe and very peaceful! Since I gave birth in a hospital setting, it was also important to me to have someone who could help advocate for me. When my hospital care team asked me to do certain things, Shalin checked in with me to see if I wanted to proceed with what they were asking. During the labor, she suggested different laboring positions and did counterpressure and other comfort measures, which helped me tremendously in coping with the pain. With Shalin's help and support, all my birth preferences were met! I had such a positive, empowering labor - something I never would have thought possible after my first delivery experience (without a doula).  I loved having Shalin as my doula and I highly recommend her! I can't stress enough how having her as my doula made such a difference to my second delivery experience. I am so happy with how everything went and really couldn't have done it without Shalin!

Since our first interview, we felt a deeply connection with her and we chose her because of her KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, NATURAL APPROACH to pregnancy and childbirth and, most importantly, because we just felt that she understood us and would support us in the way we needed. This is my second baby and I've had a very traumatic experience with my first kid birth, so I wanted to have someone by my side who I could trust and who would help me to trust myself and my body to have a positive birth experience. My husband was a little reluctant to hire a doula, but after meeting her he was already feeling supported and more confident in the birth process. During the pregnancy she was always making herself available for questions and/or concerns and sharing resources to help us navigate through the different stages of this process. She also has an amazing Childbirth Course, that helped us to prepare for the big day. During the prenatal visits, we had an amazing time together, just like friends hanging out. She would spend enough time talking to us about everything we needed; she was never rushing out and would listen to us carefully. Davon is so KIND and she made us feel so comfortable from the very start. She is also very knowledgeable and would help us with our questions, doubts and insecurities. The whole time she was showing her trust in me and my body to go through the birth. On the birth day, she was available right away when we contact her. She arrived at the Birth Center at the same time we did and was there for the whole time. We arrived there at 2am and my baby was born at 7:30am. She never left my side and stayed there until the first hours of postpartum were over, making sure we were both fine. During labor, she always knew what to do and what to say to help me cope. She had many comfort measures for me during my painful contractions. Although I was almost giving up and asking for medication, she never got discouraged or let me feel that I couldn't do it. Her positive affirmations, calmness and confidence were definitely the reason I was able to go all the way through with the unmedicated birth, even when I thought I couldn't do it anymore. I couldn't have done without her!!! She also has an amazing back up doula (Tanara), who we met virtually and then in person at our last prenatal appointment. This made us feel even more comfortable because we knew that if Davon couldn't make it to the big day for any reason, we still would have someone we trusted to support us over there. She also encapsulated my placenta. She took care of everything in the birth center and brought the capsules to my home on our postpartum appointment. She also made a cute keepsake out of my dehydrated cord, which was a special touch. Davon is like family to us know! We are extremely grateful that she came into our lives and will never forget this experience.

The ultrasound said our baby's head was big (78 percentile) so we asked around for a doula to help, and everyone recommended Alicia! Alicia is very professional and has a lot of experience with births. Alicia understood that every mother is different and are looking for different things out of the birth (for us we were looking for no drugs), so Alicia came to our house and sat with us for 4 hours, to go over a list of topics she prepared so that she understood what we are looking for and how she can best help us. Alicia even took our rapid at-home covid test, just to increase the odds of the birth going smoothly. Alicia answered all of our questions and put us at ease before the birth, which goes to show how capable she is as a doula. Alicia is always organized and on top of things. When my wife's water broke 4am in the morning, we texted Alicia instead of calling to avoid waking Alicia up in the middle of the night. To our surprise, Alicia immediately texted back. You can definitely depend on Alicia to be there for you when problems show up during your pregnancy. This is especially important to us, because we were 1st time parents with 0 clue. Even though we took the online birth classes at Sutter, we only had knowledge on paper--Alicia had actual experience and can give valuable insights that you need to navigate a delivery. Originally the hospital said no doulas are allowed entry due to Covid. But Alicia called the hospital and managed to confirm that she can indeed be present at the hospital during our delivery. Talk about professionalism! On the day of the delivery, we called Alicia 6am in the morning, and she came by, and stayed 12 hours until the paper was delivered 6pm afternoon. Each time the nurses and doctors recommended drugs, Alicia helped us ask for alternatives and options. That was helpful because as 1st time parents and lacking experience, it s hard to ask questions when nurses or doctors recommend anything--Alicia helped us reduce the amount of drugs to absolute minimal levels. During the delivery, Alicia helped lift my wife's left leg, while I lifted my wife's right leg. The nurses were busy elsewhere with bringing equipment to the doctor and getting medical supplies, so the room was short-staffed. Having Alicia be an experienced helping hand was like having an extra nurse in the room. During the chaos of the actual delivery, having an extra nurse who is experienced and knows what she is doing, is a god-send. I cannot overstate how important and how much of a game-changer it is to have an additional professional in the room--when labor happens, it's a mess and everyone's scrambling, and additional professional helping hands makes a world of difference. Alicia was instrumental to our baby being delivered safely and smoothly. Thank you Alicia for all the help. Would definitely sign up again if/when we have another pregnancy in the future!
