Julia is the creator of the only prenatal yoga that I know of that isn't just modified to keep women safe but is actually designed to make space for the baby during pregnancy and prepare the mother physically and spiritually for child birth, labor and becoming a mother. I was lucky enough to come across a birth wisdom yoga class very early in my pregnancy with my only son. After my first class I knew it was something I wanted to do as often as possible and that's when I came across Julia, her website and other classes that were offered in my area. I am so blessed that she happened to be local to me! But I was also surprised, I assumed the birth wisdoms were known world wide and common knowledge amongst the yoga community and throughout the world, they definitely should be! I received her book when I attended a class at the studio where she was teaching at the time. The affirmations, stories and journal prompts in her book are so empowering for women in embracing the journey of pregnancy and becoming a mother. The breath and the movements she teaches in her classes are not only what empowered me to feel confident in having a natural birth outside of the hospital with no interventions but they also allowed me to feel comfortable throughout my entire pregnancy even in the last days up until birth. I remember sleeping so well as long as I was consistent in my practice of the birth wisdom yoga. The days that I missed a class or a week or two of class I started to feel that I needed to practice again so I could continue to feel comfortable as my baby grew and so I could sleep well at night. I hired her for her partner workshop and she taught my sons dad and I so many valuable tools that got me through my natural labor, he was able to support me and help me through when before her workshop he had no knowledge of what I would need to be prepared and supported. Julia's wisdom as a doula and yoga instructor combine to make the perfect practice for women to have an empowered pregnancy, an empowered birth and to believe in the body's capabilities in growing and birthing life. I am so grateful that I was able to practice her yoga during my pregnancy and my smooth comfortable pregnancy and natural child birth were very much owed to her birth wisdoms that she teaches. I am forever grateful and so blessed to have come across this amazing woman who helps so many mothers prepare for birth and heal their bodies postpartum. What she teaches is not just prenatal and postpartum yoga, it is wisdom that should be known by all women!

When we found out that we were pregnant a few years ago, my girlfriend from work recommended that I try birth wisdom prenatal yoga with Julia. Being very new to pregnancy including all the stress, questions and milestones that is inherit with growing a baby, I decided to give it a shot. The prenatal yoga classes with Julia were extremely helpful for me especially with all the yoga modifications for my expanding belly. A typical class is run like so: Usually we do a check-in to see how all future mommies are doing and any comments, questions, stories to share. We move into the yoga practice thereafter which includes calming music, breath practices and checking in with your body and mind. Some of my favorite poses included hip openings and back stretches that I just don't normally take the time to do. At the end of class, we take a few moments to journal and write down anything that is on our mind. Overall, the prenatal classes were extremely helpful for me as it allowed me recognize that I wasn't alone in this journey. I developed friendships with other moms through the prenatal yoga classes and our children even do play dates together to this day. Once I completed the prenatal classes and had our baby boy, we enrolled in the postpartum classes. I believe at about six weeks post pregnancy I was able to bring my son in and practice yoga with other moms and their new babies. So much fun and so cute to see the babies in the yoga studio with us. The yoga itself is also modified and the format is similar in that we do a round table check-in and yoga practice. Don't stress, you can stop yoga practice to change your baby, feed your baby or whatever you need to do...no judgements. This past year, we were fortunate enough to have a second baby and we have since been going to the postpartum classes again. My daughter has enjoyed the classes and I love checking in with new moms as we share our parenting and baby stories. It really gives me permission and accountability to get out of the house and be around other people. Reduces any isolation and increases my socialization with others. Oftentimes I find myself being stuck at home with a new baby and forgetting that I have to take care of myself too! Any excuse to be out and about makes the day go by faster. Overall, a great experience for expectant mothers AND new mothers! I would recommend Birth Wisdom yoga to all my friends and family. Namaste.

This studio is a great community that welcomes all. They even have pay what you can classes. There is plenty of parking close by. There's also showers available if you need. My favorite place!

If you haven't been to Solfire Yoga, it is a nice yoga studio on J and 26th St. with one large ish room. There are cubbies to put your personal items in the front and in the back. If you don't have a yoga mat or forget to bring one, they do have extras for you to borrow. I believe every Sunday they offer this 60 minutes Power Vinyasa class in the heated room using infrared heaters. This is a community offering, which means you pay what you can. The room was packed and I was literally touching the person next to me. The instructor was great. I think her name was Julie? Her instructions was clear and the pace was perfect for me. I don't consider myself a yogi. I know the basics and I was able to follow through without a problem. I think its suitable for beginners. At the end of the class, I was drenched, covered in sweats and felt so good! 5 stars for the instructors, facility and the community offering, but I have to say I will probably not take the same class again. It was way too packed for me, like sardine packed. Also, as soon as I entered the room, there was a strong BO and the smell lingered throughout the entire class. I almost wanted to vomit at one point. I know this has nothing to do with the establishment. I'm mentioning it because I'm hoping people can be more considerate about their hygiene. It just took away what could have been the best yoga class for me.

Found them on ClassPass and knew it was just what the dr ordered. I took the Saturday morning class, Alexiana was the sun and she was fabulous. Everyone that worked there was also stellar! They loaned me a mat and I was off to the races! The place is a whole vibe! I love the entry and the shopping area with cool little products and gifts. I was drawn to the cutest earrings, and literally every time I wear them (and it's a lot, they've become my go to!) someone compliments them and either asks if I made them or where I got them. Every time the earrings come up I think of this place and have a nice little memory. Class was great, got the wiggles out, did some good flows and transitions and built up a little sweat. One of the regulars said it was Alexianas best class. I did note there was no music, which left me in my head more, but it was also an opportunity to work on staying present! I saw there was also another space behind our class and people were taking some kind of training. I also liked the little space between class. Seemed like a spiritual place. I can't say enough good things. Tho I love my yoga studio, I fell in love with this place. I'm glad they're in different cities and parts of the state, or I'd have a tough choice! I would love to take a class outdoors and that's my plan for the summer.
