Considering I have cousins that live in Fayette County and my daughter was born in Madison County you can take my word for it that I've gone over this bridge many times. I'm sorry I was busy driving the last time I went over this bridge or I would have taken a photo. You really need to be a distance away to capture the bridge as it is today. At highway level, there isn't much to see other than three lanes of in each direction with a low wall that overlooks the river. There are clear signs prohibiting stopping or pedestrian traffic on the bridge. I'd have to guess they had traffic problems and maybe BASE jumpers here as it is some 200 feet over the river. The bridge is actually three bridges, with the original piers from the 1946 and 1963 bridges being used as part of the construction of the new bridge. Completed in in 1998 there are three lanes in each direction and full-width shoulders. Each northbound/southbound roadway is 60 feet wide and it was most recently resurfaced in 2021. It was challenging to concentrate with the frigid room temp and the poorly lit room. All food and drinks were brought in by separate vendors, so there was no water or warm beverages available on site. There was an old water fountain that barely spewed water, but it looked sketchy. The location was gorgeous--both inside and out. Restrooms were clean and well stocked. Several areas were off limits to viewing, but the mansion was in great shape for being built in 1900/1910. The only downside was poor insulation. Also, after spending four hours shivering alongside my coworkers, I noticed that an employee had left an exterior door opened about 2-3 inches right outside our meeting room. Also, the chairs we sat in for eight hours were very uncomfortable. For 30-40°F outdoor temperature, this was completely unacceptable and very uncomfortable. If you have an event during the colder months, wear lots and lots of layers and bring your own food and drinks!
