So we are about halfway through the spring session and all I can say is...why didn't I do this sooner?! My team is more of an "A for Effort" team. We are here for fun and beer, and we have a lot of heart. But I cannot tell you how great of a time I am having! The beer is affordable, the courts are clean, the refs are on point. I have come in the past, before joining a team, to watch other friends play. I have enjoyed myself on both sides of the field there! I am excited for every game, and am looking forward to coming league sessions!

The gymnasium is pretty spacious and can host a variety of things such as basketball and volleyball. Overall a solid place to host or attend a youth sporting event. Only pet peeve is parking is limited near gym and on colder days it can be a difficult walk or cause confusion on where to go for visiting teams.

For only $8, you get to enjoy a huge, L-shaped pool with lap lanes, a dive pool, an 18 & over pool (yay), and a kiddie pool with fountain. This afternoon, the pool is almost exclusively adults since kids aren't yet home. I scored one of the tables w/an umbrella next to a pair of lounge chairs. My friend and I have the best of both sun and shade. The pools and grounds are meticulously maintained providing a gorgeous surrounding to relax. There's plenty of parking and the front gate folks are friendly. A snack bar has treats close at hand, but I haven't ventured over to it yet. I imagine this place is hopping in the peak summer months especially being in the middle of a large, planned community with apartments on several sides. For today, this public pool feels like a private club. I'll definitely be back!

I only discovered this place last summer, and have been back a couple of times since. It is in a mainly residential neighborhood and feels like you are in the middle of a park. They have 3 different pools: a main lap sized pool, a kiddie pool, and an adults only pool (my favorite). They also have loads of lounging chairs which is a huge plus to me. I mainly go to pools to lay out and socialize with whoever I am there with! Plainview has a concession stand as well, though I have not bought anything from it. They allow you to come in and out as you please during that same day too. I like that because sometimes I may want to go grab a bite to eat and come back. :)

Pay with cash. I found a cheaper place 11 dollars for me and my daughter verse 40 a day it's cleaner too.

When you pay your monthly fee, your money is going to a whole host of programs. For example... * This YMCA (Southwest) has preschool that is heavily subsidized. Let's be honest - who is likely putting their children in subsidized preschool? Probably single mothers. And it's one of the best preschools in the city. * The Southwest YMCA also has an adult daycare for individuals with special needs or stroke victims, etc. Also heavily subsidized. * The YMCA on 10th and Chestnut has a homeless shelter. Completely subsidized. * The Northeast YMCA does a lot with the blind and water safety. * Safe Place is a division of the YMCA, and it is 100% subsidized. Go read up on what Safe Place is. It'll blow your mind. I could go on, but you get my point. When you get a membership at ANY of Louisville's YMCAs in the city, your money is going to support the above. The Southwest YMCA, I mentioned what it has. As well, it is a gym. And it's a great gym. The Southwest YMCA has the following: * Indoor pool * Childcare so your kids can be entertained while you workout * A rock climbing wall for the kids * Tons of classes like Zumba, Yoga, and Spinning * Basketball court * Free weights * All your standard gym equipment The Southwest YMCA is pretty big. It's not huge, but it's big enough. It gets busy after work hours and just before work hours. If you're looking for *JUST* a gym, then the YMCA may not be for you (although it will serve that purpose). However, if you're looking for your money to go further than just paying for you to be able to use a gym, then sign up at the YMCA. It's a great charity, and I'm glad to pay a monthly membership.

There is seating above the courts and a small bar. Kind of dirty looking and not many options to drink. Many times the place smelled like garbage, it must be the houses behind it. (small alley runs behind the establishment) The bathrooms are disgusting, I am failry certain they do not clean them. BONUS: you can bring your dog here :)

This place is exactly what it needs to be and nothing more. :) They have a great upstairs, outdoor patio that overlooks the courts. The bar is bare minimum with few selections but priced so reasonable. I do wish they accepted credit cards. The bartender said they were working on that soon. The courts were clean of debris. It was nice to not step on anything that hurts when you are in the middle of a game. They have all the necessary things in place for a fun evening of volleyball. I would love to go back soon and play again. Plus, i would enjoy spending some more time on their patio. Especially since it appears that you can bring your dog with you. Truman, my pup, would love to join me next time.

I stopped by Community Park and it's a really nice spot to spend some time outside. The park has a…read morebaseball field, basketball courts, and a walking trail, which makes it great whether you want to play some sports or just get out for a relaxing walk. It has nice scenery and birds to check out in trees. It's a clean and well kept park, and there's usually something going on with people playing ball or getting some exercise. It's not a huge park, but it has a good mix of activities and is a great place for the local community to gather. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the St. Matthews area.

There's also a basketball court on the other side. There isn't really a set walking track, it is pretty much cross-shaped where every turn has a dead end. But it still has a big enough space to get plenty of steps in.

The parking was plentiful for an early Saturday morning and the fields and soccer equipment appeared to be fairly well maintained, although I did overhear several people complain about the rough terrain. The grass did appear to be patchy in spots. We took portable chairs; however, I did notice several small sets of metal bleachers scattered around the perimeter of the fields as another seating option. Will look forward to visiting again.
