The space itself has potential and works well as a casual spot to hang out or grab drinks, especially if you live nearby or are golfing. But if you're going mainly for the food, it just hasn't been very memorable in our experience. I felt very uncomfortable and couldn't see us staying there at all. So my husband talked to the barefoot lady and she said we could pay her half of one night stay. I met a lovely man named Dave in the champion horse barn. He was fantastic, and took the time to tell me a bit of horse history. He even brought one of the retired champions up to the stall door so that my dog could get familiar with horses. Meeting Dave made my entire trip that even more memorable. We got to stop and watch some of the horse events going on. I loved watching the horses competing in the jump course. This is a large park and there is a lot to take your time and see. They have a nice gift shop. There is a food hall too but I didn't try it during this trip. It is $28 to get in, but is worth it and you can get in the next day for free. While attending the 41st annual Kentucky Bash held at the tent area on the farm, I learned that the owners of Donamire allow Cardinal Hill to host the event on their beautiful farm as their donation. That makes me want to contribute to the Ball family all over again. I don't know if they give tours or not, but if you ever get the opportunity to attend an event here, do it! I sure would love to learn more about this beautiful part of the Bluegrass!

I've been to Donamire Farms twice in my life, both for family reunions, and it's a beautiful setting for such, where thoroughbreds run along fenced rolling Kentucky countryside, and swans float gracefully over placid waters. Horse barns, with interiors kept far more pristine than my boys' bedroom, dot the landscape. A guest house set a couple acres off the main house also lines the circuitous road that travels through the grounds. It, too, is as opulent as the main, albeit a bit smaller, but larger than any place I've ever stayed. It is all a very pleasant backdrop to seeing those I don't see often, likely not often enough.

We visited midmorning Wednesday and enjoyed an hourlong walk along the meandering pathway through…read morethe property. It would easily take more time to explore each nook and cranny of this beautiful space. We parked in the large gravel lot and stopped to check out the info board, entrance plaques, and admire the large doors in the entry gate. The path wound through the property past many interesting sculptures and trees marked with identifying tags. The largest feature is the large koi pond and has a pleasant waterfall feature at one end and large landscaped beds at the opposite side. There are also smaller ponds and water pathways (dry beds in August) with multiple bridges to allow for great views. One of the pathways wound down to a creek area and another rose up to a higher overlook point on an abandoned train trestle. This garden park was showing a bit of stress with the extended timing of late August heat for the past few weeks. Many of the hydrangeas were beyond salvaging for late blooming, which is just nature having its way. Would like to return next spring to explore further since there are multiple paths and limited time during this visit. Location is approximately an hour's drive from Louisville.

The Oval Staircase is 1 of 2 in the US and is an amazing experience to go down from the top! 99% of all the Gorgeous Antiques are not original to the house owners, but are Extremely Fine rare pieces found in Museums and high end Galleries. Ward Hall is privately run and is in great need of donations for its Upkeep. It's still one of the Most Beautiful Mansions I've ever visited and I highly recommend touring. There are a few interesting outbuildings and a slave grave yard. The house is filled with period antiques and reproductions. This is a definite must see!
