This team was so difficult to work with as I helped serve as a liaison between the bride, groom, and coordinator. During setup of the wedding, they were extremely rude. We'd ask them questions about their setup, change requests, or even simply excusing us to pass by to a door only. Each response was shockingly unprofessional and rude. I would think they understand after being in this business so long that not everything goes to plan on a wedding day and making changes/compromise is important into making the big picture of the event happen. Moving on... Music was delayed during cocktail hour because they had to move equipment from the ceremony to the dining area. When I asked kindly if they could play music as requested by the groom, they responded with "you'll get it when we get there." Really diminished the vibe of the cocktail. They left their road cases in visible sight instead of moving it back to the truck, making it difficult for other vendors to create a clean presentation for their area. The music for the dancing was not loud enough. Again, the groom personally asks to turn the volume up and it didn't happen. Also, the music had no transitions like a professional DJ! Basically, a fade with a new song cued up, sometimes the delay would be 5-10 seconds of awkwardness. Both the owner and his assistant were seriously frustrating working with. I would never recommend them to any future clients. The owner did mention that he is retiring, I'm glad they are. Oh, something positive. They had quality equipment. read more

I attended a function that Rob Goldberg was the dj. It was awful. The music was off. The lighting was off. He should have just turned everything off and went home. All this guy does is talk none stop! Yeah he brags about being in the business for 40 years it's time to retire! I heard him making comments about the place. His so called clothing attire leaves a lot to be desired. Not professional at all. Just highly disappointed. I was a guest at a function that you did. I don't have to give you their information. The reason I didn't was because you would have called them up and harassed them. We hired Rob to DJ our wedding and he did an incredible job. We had chatted with a few DJs, and the biggest concern for others was that we wanted music and mic access in three locations at the venue - out on a lawn, in a reception hall and on a deck. I mentioned it to Rob during our first chat and he was confident it was no big deal - he had wireless everything. He was great to chat with and his years of experience and professionalism put my mind at ease, so we hired him. About a month out, he sent a very thorough document asking for all the details for the wedding - from ceremony through to dancing. He was flexible with my few edits and worked well with the day of coordinator as she stepped in. On the day, he nailed it. We had zero sound issues, perfect volume and he was the friendliest and most pleasant guy. We've had so many comments about the song choices, the lights setup and how great the dancing was (he played something for everyone). Plus - when my Dad came out on the dance floor dressed as batman - he pulled up the soundtrack within seconds. We couldn't have asked for a better DJ and would recommend Rob to anyone! read more

Rob was a perfect addition to my wedding. The music was never too loud or too quiet. He kept the party going smoothly and seamlessly the whole evening and was able to adjust from my original timeline as needed. One of my favorite aspects was his uplighting. I gave him very little guidance on how I wanted them and he set them up around my outdoor venue with great taste and it was absolutely beautiful when the sun went down! One tip: when he says he has a lot of equipment... he's not kidding. I had originally planned to have him upstairs on a balcony overlooking my venue however, his equipment was too big and heavy to be brought up the stairs. It ended up being fine, in about ten minutes we had a plan B and relocated where he would be set up and he looked as though we had planned him there the entire time:) If you're looking for an event DJ, look no further. Rob and East Bay Digital Sound was amazing at our wedding! We interviewed him along with a few others and while his setup was easily the most impressive of all the DJs we talked to, what impressed us the most was his personality. He gave us a short questionaire to fill out that answered pretty much every question he would have had for our wedding, so organizing was completely painless. Our ceremony was outdoors, and he had a separate setup for the music for the ceremony. Volume was perfect, and he mic'd the Officiant so everyone could hear him without him needing to yell. The reception was perfect as well. He made no mispronounciations the entire night, including the introductions. Perfect calming music selection for dinner, Made the room look great with tons of remote-controlled up-lights, and had everyone dancing the entire time (no moments where everyone decided to leave the dance floor because of a particular song, etc). He even had a laser light show on the walls, including our names! That was something we weren't expecting. Finally, right before the dancing, he MC'd the shoe game. This is something that the DJ can try to make about himself, but Rob kept the crowd into it and made sure it was about us and not him. Lots of fun. He announced the final 2 songs to make sure no one was surprised, and only plugged himself once during the entire night (no "DJ FunkyFlex!!!!" between every song, which was really nice). 5 Stars, definitely would recommend him for your party! read more

I am overdue in writing this review for the DJ at our December 6th wedding. Actually, he was so much more than just a DJ - his lighting and hazing effects transformed the reception portion of our wedding into an exciting nightclub atmosphere that our guests loved. In planning, Rob answered every phone call (I never got a voicemail greeting) and promptly responded to every email. Which is really good, especially considering that we booked him just 9 days before the wedding. Yes, you read that correctly. We called him the Friday after Thanksgiving, our wedding was 12/6. And just as he promised in that first phone call, our wedding reception was spectacular! Rob and his assistant worked well with our decorator during set-up, and all of his equipment really was beyond what we expected. He played every song we had on our list of wants and was great at reading our crowd and playing the perfect variety. Despite our objections prior to the reception, he was bribed by our minister to play the chicken dance. Ha! Turns out, we loved it and it had everyone, even grandma, up and dancing. We feel incredibly lucky that we called Rob and we would highly recommend him. He made our wedding a fantastic party that we'll never forget, and we are very grateful! The next time we have a big party, he'll be the guy we'll call. We hired Rob for our wedding this past mother's day weekend. The most important things for me in a wedding is the ceremony and the music. Rob was the DJ for my wedding on 4/9/16. Pros: Communicative (emails, ect) Has good equipment (sound, uplighting, ect) Cons: -Talks waaay too much. I'm not sure why he bothered having us pick songs, he had them on really low in the background, or would start them after rambling for 5 minutes. "And now we're going to cut the cake. Look at the happy couple at the cake. Blah blah blah cake... Let's play some music while they cut the cake.." We didn't get to hear the song until after his narrative, and only did because it took us so long to cut because we were having trouble with it. Everything in the wedding was narrated heavily by him. -Does not understand wedding ambiance. I walked in and the lights were so bright you couldn't even see the uplighting. There was a tacky laser show on the dance floor, along with a horrific scroll of congratulation text streaming across the headtable wall like we were at a 16 year olds birthday party. -Doesn't know how to read the crowd/DJ: he played ONE slow song, which I missed because I was at the photobooth. He kept playing songs for a 16 year olds birthday party, even though there was only 8 people on the dance floor and several couples came out for the one slow song (im told) -He turned off our first dance song 20 seconds in. Apparently my husband *looked* at him so once he finally started the song after he narrated our entrance (I had said to have us walk out to our song and start our dance right away) and shortly after dimmed the song out. When we looked at him upset and confused he brought it back on after apologizing to us profusely over the mic, during our first dance. Moral of the story: If you are hiring him to DJ a school dance, he's great. A wedding, look elsewhere. **********UPDATE************** While I don't want to drag this out, I do need to mention a few things in response to Rob's rude and exaggerated comments/reply: 1. IMO no lasers, especially the ones displayed that night, are not romantic. And they were requested to be turned off, and they were. I just wish we had the same standard of romantic. (the lighting is a he said/she said, so I will leave that be) 2. The introduction to events was beyond lengthy, and it felt that everything took a backseat to his talking. 3. The music was too quiet for the grand entrance, and was an after thought for all of the events that a song was selected. (cake, bouquet toss, ect) I picked "I believe in a Thing Call Love" to walk out too, and it was muted extremely low, to hear your already boisterous voice. 4. I selected 6 songs to hear during the reception, yes there were also song requests from the crowd but IMO, you did not balance the song flow as well as it could have been. 6. Heaven forbid my husband look around at his surrounding. I do not appreciate the comment of him not being involved/happy or whatever your thinly veiled insult is meant to imply for our first dance. 7. I also forgot to mention that you went to the wrong venue. One that I had updated in December and had reminded you of numerous times. You also decided to call me, on my wedding day, instead of the 3 contacts I had sent you to speak with should any issues arise. I also feel Rob could have been more professionally dressed. 8. I guess I appreciate you for not taking a review on a review site to an overly personal/nasty level? Except where the first dance is concerned. The review was meant as such, a review of your work IN MY OPINION. With this, I will add one positive comment. I hired Rob to be my DJ and emcee for my debut/cotillion and he did a great job. He was accommodating from the very start and was patient enough to deal with my indecisive decisions. I kept changing the program but he dealt with all of it. Before my party, I had asked him to put up up-lighting on the stage to make it pop but on the day of my party, when I walked out of the room for my grand entrance, I did not expect that it would look beyond gorgeous. I was in shock to see the up-lightings around the room and it made my party look very beautiful. Also, when I did my hip-hop dance performance with my friends, he matched the laser lights (not sure what they're actually called) with the song and it made our dance look more entertaining. --- Response to the owner, Rob--- While I appreciate the gift, it would be nice to give the officiate a heads up so he/she knows. Our officiate is family so it's not like he does that everyday. He was extremely nervous. When a bride and groom are waiting to walk and look at you, I think it's ok to start the music. As I stated, we practiced according to the full length of the song so there would have been no reason to loop the song anywhere. The full length was just under 4 minutes, plenty of time for our wedding party to walk. I'm not a wedding planner. If you felt the party needed to be done within a certain time shorter than the full song, then you should have discussed that with me. You just confirmed that you didn't know how to introduce the dinner. If you were unsure you should have asked before the big day or at least prior to the introduction. It's a food truck meaning it's faster pace unlike a buffet. I understand you take requests. If someone requested a slow song, you shouldn't have replayed the original version of OUR song. It takes away that special feeling for us when we think of the song. I know it was my grandfather who wanted slower music because he's older and thought the music was too loud. That was before the dancing started. You claim to be very observant to the environment but by the time to dancing started, the grandparents had left. I noticed multiple slow dance songs played at different times. That is why my guests commented about the flow. They would be upbeat then the slow dance would bring them down. Again, where was the up lighting that you mentioned which convinced me to hire you? Had I known you were not going to provide them like we discussed in the very beginning months ago, I would have rented them. Up lighting along the walls was very important to me when planning decor and how I wanted the room to look. I may have been wrong regarding your pants but the outfit was still casual. We asked a few coworkers at both our jobs and they agreed. -------------------------------------------------------------------- I feel very let down by East Bay Digital Sound. With the raving reviews, I expected better. First thing, when I inquired Rob sent me a lot on information. One of which said he provides up lighting which is why I didn't rent it either. All the photos on his site show beautiful rooms with up lighting. The only area that had up lighting was his DJ area. I relied on that to complete the décor. Let's begin with the ceremony. He came up to me after saying my wedding party was walking slow so he had to loop the song. We practiced and I spaced out when each group would go according to the full length of the song. While they were walking, I heard him loop the song in the MIDDLE. I thought that was weird. Why not play the whole song? Now let's go to the end of the ceremony. We did our kiss and faced our guests waiting for our recessional music to start. Rob was just staring at us and we actually had to say "music" for him to get the point to begin the recessional song. Once we got the reception and we were lined up for our intros, Rob told me he wished our officiate held the mic to us to record our I Dos. We didn't even know he records that. If we had known we would have told our officiate. I thought that was kind of pointless to bring to me attention after it was already done. We had a food truck for dinner. When it came time for Rob to announce dinner he said into the mic to all our guests, "We're going to take a moment for dinner which is a food truck. I'm not sure how this is going to go" and began walking up to us like he was going to ask so my husband and I started pointing and signaling to our guests the truck was right outside the entrance which was the size of a garage door so the truck could be seen to begin with. It was no surprise we had a food truck. Rob saw it before our intros. That was really annoying and totally killed the flow. If he had questions about how to announce dinner then he should have asked PRIOR rather than saying "I don't know how this is going to go" in front of all our guests. I have received multiple comments regarding the music selection as well. Guests have TOLD me which no bride wants to hear, that the selection was not that great. We had our first dance to a cover song and Rob played the original song for our guests to dance too. A lot of people thought that was weird and I didn't appreciate it. That song was no longer a special song for my husband and I. Not only that but we got the dancing going and a few songs in was a slow song. That does not keep the mood and the fun atmosphere going. Rob has an everyday job and he is a DJ on the side. I know he didn't start working on our wedding until the week of because he emailed me saying so. I feel like he rushed to get everything together and it didn't come together nicely. Lastly, Rob's photos show him nicely dressed at his events. I did not appreciate his lack of professional attire. read more

I recently attended the Trinitas Cellars Lobster Feed in Napa that they performed at and you know it is a good party when people start dancing before dinner and before any significant amount of wine has been consumed! Not only did the band play a great variety of songs that provided dancing music and got the crowd going, but they were also a joy to meet and chat with! From my experience with them, I can tell that this is a genuine group that is aimed at providing any party with an awesome experience and I would recommend this band to anyone who is looking to take an average party to the next level! read more

Rob did an amazing job for my wedding. Especially for never meeting him in person and only communicating over email he did an outstanding job with the music and lighting. Overall I gave him a 4 out of 5 due to my wedding guest complained to me after the wedding that he didn't want to play certain songs they requested. But over all everyone was satisfied and enjoyed their time. Can we give 10 starts?? :) Rob did an amazing job at our wedding!! He def wowed our guests with the beautiful BOGO and up lighting. It makes such a difference!! Our hall looked like a dream!! I recommend for any brides to be to def go with a GOBO and the uplighting. Oh did I mention that the lasers he uses are extremely awesome!! We were so pleasantly suprised!! Sound quality was very good. We got married at an air force base, so security was an issue, but Rob worked with us and it turned out so lovely!! And we can't get over that GOBO!! I have no hesitation when giving Rob at East Bay Digital Sound 5 stars for being the DJ at my wedding on April 10, 2016. After the wedding was over several of our guests complimented me about how great a job Rob had done. The Equipment that he used is top of the line. A few weeks before the wedding he sent me an email to request the information he needed and I was relieved to see the attention to detail. I called him on the phone and we spoke for a least 10 minutes answering all of my questions and other details. I will start with the ceremony. Rob had the microphone for the ceremony clipped on my tux in less than 30 seconds and it was hardly noticeable. This made such difference not to have to hold a microphone and afterwards, everyone I spoke with said they could hear us clearly. Ceremony music and exit music were right on cue and sounded good. For the reception, the uplighting looked really great. As is got darker outside the reception hall was transformed into an awesome party atmosphere. I was outside the hall taking some last photos with the photographer and looking in through the windows watching everyone dancing and having a good time really solidified what a great choice we had made when choosing East Bay Digital. He had a good mix of songs to get everyone dancing and played music all the way until the end. We chose to play the shoe game and it was a huge hit and got lots of laughs. Rob was the DJ at our wedding in July. From the beginning, Rob was available and easy to communicate with. He was able to answer all of our questions and give a good idea to how the night of the wedding would evolve. Rob was very organized and made sure he had all of the information he needed before the day so it would run smoothly. Rob came with an assistant and set everything up a few hours early. The sound for the outdoor ceremony was great and he had microphones for the officiant and the groom. The lighting outdoors was a nice addition and in the photos it looks very good. Pros: Rob was the DJ at wedding and he was absolutely amazing!! He was very patient to work with me when I had a bevy of questions/concerns. In addition, he went above and beyond his duties (in which I paid him for). Highlights include: 1. He helped me make my slideshow video for the father-daughter dance. Everyone LOVED it. It had to be coordinated with the song and his transitions were brilliant. His hard work made a special moment even more special and allowed me to a video montage that I will always cherish. He even gave me a copy of the ppt with the music embedded as a keepsake. We had rented a projector and screen from him and he was able to set it up and take it down in 10 minutes. He was very efficient! 2. Our wedding was unique in that we had A LOT of kids present (45% of the wedding was under 15). He did a laser show with animals that kept the little ones entertained so that their parents could eat during the dinner. He made games to keep the older kids (even some adults) entertained. We got rave reviews from the guests regarding his light show. 3. His ability to be flexible. We decided to move our timeline up and he was able to continue the program seamlessly. We also made changes to the grand entrance at the last minute and he did it without a hitch. 4. Professionalism. He was very early and set up in a timely manner. Everything was ready to go once the guests got there. He was amenable to our situation. We had guests outside the patio area during cocktail hour so he set up speakers outside. He was very engaging with the wedding guests and made them feel at ease. 5. I had asked him to introduce our families. He called me on the phone in order to ensure that he got the pronounciation of the names correctly. We spoke for ~45 minutes on the phone to ensure that we were both on the same page as to what I wanted/needed. 6. Equipment: Rob has state-of-the art equipment. His lighting is gorgeous and the colors are vivid. A lot of people have cheap uplighting which causes lines and problems for videographers (my videographer has experienced this). Thus, with Rob's equipment you won't have to worry about the laser lights affecting your filming. 7. He was extremely prompt in returning messages!! That in itself is a huge plus. Semi-con: I did get negative feedback from the videographer and photographer stating that Rob was not amenable to their requests. Specifically, Rob was shining purple lighting on us (which was very pretty in person) but both the videographer and photographer said it was weird. They asked him to turn it to white and he refused so they had to ask me. Honestly, this is fine because technically, I am his boss as I am the one who hired him. He wants to make sure I am aware of why the lights are bright (instead of the warm, cozy ambiance). That is fine. His positive attributes more than make up for this incident. In August of this year, East Bay Digital Sound coordinated the music and lighting for my daughters' wedding ceremony and reception in Half Moon Bay, Ca. Rob Goldberg (owner) and Tim (DJ) worked in perfect unison to provide us with an awesome sound and atmosphere. The event lasted a total of 7 hours, but EBDS was there early to insure set-up and testing of their equipment, which was faultless throughout the evening. On May 14, Rob was the DJ for my wedding and he did an amazing job! From the beginning, he had great communication with me and was easy to work with. On the day of, while my husband and I were out getting pictures taken, he entertained the kids so that they wouldn't get bored while waiting for the reception to begin. He made the reception so much fun! My family and friends are still talking about how much fun they had, and much of the credit goes to Rob! I appreciated his good taste in music. Besides the first dance, father-daughter dance, bouquet toss, and last dance songs, I just told him to play whatever he wanted and it worked out well! In addition, he willingly went beyond the hours that I payed him for. I enjoyed the lighting and the fact that the music was at just the right volume. Many DJs will play the music so loud that you can barely have a conversation with the person right next to you. This wasn't the case with Rob. Rob provided the entertainment for our daughter's sweet 16 and he did an amazing job. He really cared about making sure we received exactly the experience we wanted by making the effort to talk to us and our daughter prior to the event. It was in the Caves at Wente and Rob reconfigured his set up to accommodate the space, but still provide us with all the lights, lasers, and uplights which made the party even more entertaining. He had everyone up on the dance floor and was quick to read the crowd and what kind of music they wanted to hear! He helped make our party a success! read more

Rob was excellent! We hired him to be our DJ for our wedding in Burlingame, and he also provided the uplighting and a projector/screen free of charge. He brought all of his own equipment and provided the music/mics for our ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, reception, and dancing. He was also the MC and did a great job with that as well. He answered all of my questions and was very responsive to any emails we sent and had very competitive pricing. He also dutifully stuck to our "do not play" list when one of the grandparents continuously pestered him to play the Chicken Dance, and I'm pretty sure he played most, if not all, of the songs on our "preferred song requests"! :) He was great to work with before and during the wedding, and I would highly recommend him for anybody looking for a wedding DJ/MC full package!
