I have been seeing Dr. Severin for the last 4 years for a glaucoma suspect diagnosis. Dr. Severin has been a wonderful glaucoma specialist for me. I followed up with him every 4-6 months in San Ramon office. I give him a 5-star for his care, friendliness and expertise. A zero star for the front desk and scheduler staff. Awful customer service. It was so difficult to get an appointment as a new patient at that time but I patiently waited because of Dr. Severin's reputation. If it's not because of Dr. Severin I won't choose this office. The receptionist and schedulers were racist and very rude. They were full of attitudes and not helpful at all. There were always at least 3-4 staff sitting at the front desk/schedule desk but they never pick up the phone! Try calling them if you don't believe me. Last year, an elderly receptionist bluntly lied and told me Dr. Severin was not in the office and they assigned me another doctor without any notification/heads-up. While sitting in the waiting room I heard Dr. Severin's voice and asked the assistant about it. She told me yes, that was him. I was very upset to be told lies!! The assistant was very nice and apologized. I told her I needed to know the reason why I was told a lie. Very unprofessional! She said an office manager wasn't there and asked me if I wanted a follow-up. I said yes and NOBODY ever called back!! Obviously they didn't give a shit of my concern! My last visit this week, after finishing up seeing Dr. Severin one of the girls (short hair, young) rolled her eyes when I asked "when is the latest time to schedule a follow up appointment?" She looked so annoyed and unbothered with my very simple question. That kind of attitude was not tolerable! I didn't see her treated Caucasian patients like that. Well, now that Dr. Severin is retiring then this office has no value for me to continue my eye care. I will find another glaucoma specialist who has decent, helpful and friendly staff. It's sad to experience all this mistreatment from a well-known Glaucoma specialist office in East Bay. Very very unfortunate! read more

I was suffering from a case of glaucoma that was growing worse and I was frightened at the thought of losing my eyesight. However, thanks to Dr. Raghu and his laser treatment, my eyesight has now stabilized. The thought of undergoing laser surgery can be a bit off-putting and frightening. Nevertheless, it's a quick, pain-free procedure that can save your sight. I'm now greatly relieved and very happy to resume my normal life without the fear of going blind. Doctors: Staff: I have been coming here for almost 10 years because the ophthalmologists are stellar. But have always had frustrating experiences with the front office staff, one of the surgery coordinators, and the office manager when I asked to change surgery coordinators... Even their techs vary in quality. When I am told to come back in a year, front office tells me their system can't schedule that far in advance, so I have to remember myself to call them no sooner than 6 months prior to the appointment. Dr. Severin used to have quite a wait by the time I would call. Not only this, but they let stuff slip through the cracks (they kept telling me they had added me to the notification by text system but appointment after appointment, I never received text notifications. It took several years to get this straightened out). And they are rude! You can approach the front desk for your appointment and the lady seated there will continue to look down without acknowledging you. I stood there for several minutes once without her even saying so much as "I'll be with you in a second." There's a sense you're bothering them. One time I arrived for a simple testing appointment four minutes late. I accept full responsibility and was not surprised that I then had to wait. A half hour later, I asked about being seen, and one of the techs told me that I was a little late and they have 20 minutes test testing intervals. She said she would come back and inform me about the timing. She never came back and I was finally called in 1.5 hours after my scheduled appointment (granted, 1 hour and 26 minutes after I arrived). I figured this was Faer, until each test I took only lasted about 5 minutes. I was out out of there 10 minutes after being called in. So these rigid 20 minute testing blocks they have seem arbitrary and punitive. When I had my eye surgery, the surgery coordinator, Tonya, scheduled me with the wrong surgeon, forgot to mail me some of the papers, gave me incorrect instructions for the preparatory eyedrops, was not around during office hours... I asked the office manager to quietly switch me to the other coordinator, but she didn't want to make waves with Tonya and told me the other one "makes mistakes too." After my first eye surgery, the tech removed my bandage and cleaned my eye out. this was a welcome relief, as I was kind of afraid to touch it, and it was all crusty. After my second, a different tech removed my bandage and was leaving the room. This one wasn't going to clean it, but fortunately I knew to ask. Just inconsistent. One tech had to google what a "retinal tear" was when taking my history. It's not a specialty here, so I guess that's ok, but I just don't know what to expect anymore? And I hate that such wonderful surgeons have to suffer (at least in their reviews) from such poor administrative execution. read more

There appears to be no effective leadership or oversight, which shows in the constant lack of follow-up and accountability. I've spent over a month trying to schedule a simple appointment. Phones go unanswered, voicemails are ignored, and when staff do respond, they fail to follow through. The doctors may be excellent, but poor management and administrative incompetence make this practice inaccessible. No patient should have to work this hard just to get an appointment. Until management addresses these issues, I would not recommend this office. read more

I wish I could give this center less than one star. I have a corneal problem in my right eye and was referred to this center by a doctor. I was in constant pain, could not see properly, and could not work because light from the computer and the sun caused severe discomfort and sharp eye pain. I called in January and was given an appointment for March 31. I waited three months in pain. Later, I traveled abroad to visit family and returned a few months later. Because this center refused to refill the eye drops they had prescribed, I was forced to seek medical care outside the U.S. Fortunately, I received excellent eye care abroad. After returning, I called this center again to make an appointment. Note: no one answers the phone. A bot asks you to leave your number for a callback. I called at least ten times. They called me back once, and I missed the call for unknown reasons. I called again, apologized (to the bot), and asked them to call me back. No one ever did. I live in California, where long waits for appointments are common. However, when you are in pain, cannot see properly, and still need to work to pay your bills, this level of care is completely unacceptable. read more

I just had cataract surgery in both of my eyes, the last one was June 11,2025. I had a fantastic experience with the entire staff and especially my surgeon - Dr. Raghu. I'm still adjusting but right now my medium and long distance eyesight is fantastic, close up sight is still adjusting. Beginning with my first visit everything was professional and spot on. All my questions were answered and the procedures went just as it was explained, no surprises. He answered all of my questions. He replaced both of my eyes with a multifocal lens, so I no longer need glasses. Kelly Shannon in the San Ramon office was also a huge help in orchestrating all of the timing for the surgeries as well as being available to answer all of my questions leading up to surgery. I was told when I ordered them it would be 10 business days and we are far from that date. I keep calling the Brentwood location and they keep telling me to leave a voicemail for a technician (who is in charge of contacts) and I've left multiple voicemails and I have yet to receive a call back. I love this place and whatever I say wont be enough praise,. Let me first say I am very hypersensitive, particularly to drugs, When I found out I had glaucoma, the protocol was for me to take drops to see if I could lower the pressure, I went to 3 different ophthalmologists who each gave me some drugs, not being very concerned about my self disclosed hypersensitivity. On one occasion the drugs caused such a negative reaction that I had to take prednisone drops in my eye to correct the adverse drug reaction. On another occasion I stopped taking some drops where I had an adverse reaction and the doctor actually yelled at me for not following her protocol. Enter Dr Severin. A completely opposite experience. He listened carefully to my concerns about being so hypersensitive and took it seriously and he offered about 5-6 different protocols that he could do (from the least invasive up to surgery) to resolve my issue. He was so kind, knowledgable and reassuring. And so competent. Cutting edge information a head above the others. . We started with drops again, this time without any preservatives. (which none of the other 3 practitioners thought to do) and that didnt work. I still got a reaction. So we went to 2 more procedures until I have been stable now for a few years. When I come to the office, I am tested on equipment that gives an objective readout in addition to the visual exam only. And, if there comes a time when I need other work, he still has other steps to take to help me. When first I was scared I would lose my vision, I am now so grateful that I have lost less than 5% vision in this eye. (not the prognosis I heard from other doctors--instead they "prepared me" that my vision would likely get worse as I aged). I cant say enough to praise this person--he is the best you would want from a doctor--exquisite competency with a heart of gold --so loving and compassionate and so cutting edge. His office reflects this--I find going there a complete pleasure. Each person in the staff is personable and upbeat and really loves working in such a supportive healing and loving environment. If 5 stars is the top score, I would give this office 10 stars. This is the true doctor -patient experience at its best--individually working with each person offering them competence, kindness and respect that we all deserve. read more

My elderly (90+ yr old) mother has been seeing Dr. Rahul Raghu, and most recently had a xen gel stent surgery for her glaucoma/high eye pressure, because the medication she was taking for this condition gave her very bad side effects. After carefully explaining the procedure, Dr. Raghu completed the surgery. My mother's recovery was smooth and she had no complications. Dr. Raghu is not only outstanding in his areas of expertise, he is also one of the kindest and most compassionate doctors I have had the pleasure of meeting. This is such a rare combination. I just had my last appointment with Dr. Aimee Edell yesterday and I told her if I could give her and her staff 20 stars I would. Everyone's case is different. Mine required cataract surgery on both eyes in a staggered set appointment schedule, with multiple follow-up appointments after each surgery. Thanks to that I got to see both the staff in San Ramon and at the office in Brentwood. Great people work at both places, but I slightly preferred the intimacy and professionalism shown in Brentwood. Not that I would discourage anyone from going to San Ramon, as that is where the surgeries are done, but if you live kind of halfway between as I do you will enjoy going east. I deal with a lot of doctors and a lot of office staffs, and many are very good, but none outshines this group. Special praise to surgery coordinator Tonia who had to deal with my A-Fib relapse and some flip-flopping from my cardiologist and primary care doctor. If all of our lives dealing with people in public went as smoothly as this our world would have a lot less conflict and strife. Some of the complaints lodged in other reviews are completely different than my experience. My work experience is in retail management, and I trained managers and staff on customer service from Monterey to San Rafael to Reno and Las Vegas, and everywhere in between. No one in Brentwood needs any lessons from me, but the larger nature of their setup in San Ramon might need a little remedial course in work ethic and customer service - but nothing as bad as others have described here. When you have a practice as large as this one with as many great doctors as this one you need a system to make it all work and deviating from that system might not be what you prefer. But I prefer to defer to the best, and Dr. Aimee Edell is the best. Her description of the process was perfect, her explanation of the outcomes never said 100% of the time are people satisfied. She explained the differences concisely and answered all my questions promptly. Hospitals and doctor's offices deal with emergencies every day. There are times when this inconveniences certain people. But, as my wife (who is a Respiratory Therapist who helped treat and save many lives during the COVID bad days) will tell you, more often than not it is non-compliant patients who disrupt things or things out of their control, like a systems failure that disrupts the ability to meet the expectations of a customer. Take those reviews here with a grain of salt. Not everything happens perfectly in a very imperfect world. read more

I was a patient at the East Bay Eye Center for many years. I saw both Dr. Todd Sevrin and Dr. Ho. The staff was always professional and I received excellent care. I moved out of the area three years ago, and a few weeks ago I called to ask a question about a procedure I had done with Dr. Ho. The woman who answered the phone was rude and totally unprofessional. I asked to leave a message for Dr. Ho. No call back. I wrote an email to their email address. No response. This new office management is not how the office used to be. I am appalled at the lack of contact and professional curtesy. It only takes a minute to respond via email yet no one took the time. Disgusted. I still have many friends who live in the bay area.
