I have been back to see Dr. Thames a couple times since my last review and truly enjoy the staff. I went back recently for an exam and new glasses. Dr. Thames is very thorough in his eye exams especially his review of the retina scans and measurements for eye glasses, etc. I purchased a couple pairs of glasses from Janet who does a great job in fitting and knowing what style of glasses fit your face and what styles I like to see. After going there for so many years they have a good Idea of what a patient wants. Dr. Thames is the best and Janet will do a great joy fitting you for new glasses if needed. read more

Dr. Fletcher Thames and staff are outstanding. My exams are always thorough with great attention to detail. Dr. Thames always takes the time to explain the results of my exam. He is a great teacher. The staff is so courteous and so easy to work with. The selection of frames are always the latest fashion, but the traditional frames are still in inventory and available too. My family of 4 has been a customer here for 3 years since we moved to San Ramon. We have been happy with the care and service up until our most recent interaction. Our elderly in-laws came to visit us and we highly recommended them to San Ramon Optometric Group as all of our past experiences have been great. During the check-up and purchase of their new glasses, they were told that they would need to pay extra for infraction lenses (which is fine and preferred actually so that we know the cost) but were misled to believe that the office is in network with MediCal and that the insurance would cover the difference. Now 3-4 weeks later, they are being hit with approx $400 extra in charges between the two of them. It's not an insane amount to most but for them, it's huge. Had we been aware of the fees that would make its way to the final bill, we would not have brought them here as their typical eye doctor doesn't charge anything. read more

I called in to obtain an examination for my eyes. 1. The receptionist was extremely rude. Refused service. I wouldn't recommend this place based on her customer service. If she can't answer the phone rudely and in a hostile manner nine times out of ten the doctors are the same way which is why she's comfortable with this bad attitude towards potential customers. read more

Great if your looking for a car buying experience for glasses. (Hence the extra star) I am not. I do not have 2 hours or 4 hours to give to eye glasses. On the other hand I think my father in law would appreciate the time. From start to finish these people take their time doing a thorough job and explain every step of the way. I don't have the time it takes to buy a car. ( I actually bought my Mercades in less time) so theirs that! 5 trips later , I do have eye glasses and my daughter has contacts. I needed an urgent appointment on a Saturday due to a foreign object going in my eye - I knew it was a facial micro bead in my eye but my eye was very swollen, watering, and stinging and burning. I really needed an optometrist. I was so thankful to be Dr. Emily Lin's patient today. I love doctors who are patient, thorough, detailed, gentle and confident in their treatment, and really care about the wellbeing of their patients - Dr. Lin is just that. I was initially scared of her advise because I am the kind who does not like to touch my eye or put things in my eyes unnecessarily (even eye drops), but just 20 min of taking Dr. Lin's advise, my swelling is almost gone and I feel so much better!! I wish I came to her yesterday instead of going to urgent care. Will definitely make her my primacy eye doctor for all needs. read more

Been a customer 5-8 years too long. Sad to say but Dr. Thames just going through the motions until retirement. The place just feels outdated - furniture and lighting never has changed one bit (can anyone say LED?). The staff seems to have turned over to some younger workers but they are rude and don't give a hoot that you are a long time customer or not. I had a dispute about an appointment and one of the younger staff tried to punk me and said "would gladly transfer my files to another office". Then Dr. Thames who owns the business just takes her side. Their appointment process is ridiculous because any appointment you make way in advance is just a "tentative" appointment and the only way to confirm is via text. But what if you miss the text or deleted it? They just cancel and never give you a call. read more

Dr. Chan was able to see me on a Saturday morning within two hours of my call. She was very knowledgeable, thorough, and professional. Her diagnosis of my current eye issue lowered the worry that I was experiencing. She completely explained the treatment for my problem, along with providing some sample eye drops for immediate use. So I take my vision seriously. I like to see. I wish I had super human hawk vision. But these guys are no help with that. Most recently I got my prescription done which took 2 hours. And it was wrong. So when I came back to pick up my contacts I asked him to check it again. The dr was exasperated but did it and then got a different prescription. So I ask him if I need a new glasses prescription written down and he says "eh its close enough". They also sneak in a contact lense fitting to every exam for an extra $50. It makes me so angry. It happens without me knowing. I just think he is being nice and telling me about some new contact lens. Not that I have any complaints with mine by the way. So he tries on a billion pairs and watches me so I throw them away. Finally I tell him starving kids in Africa wish they had contacts and he tells me to send the contacts to them then and to throw them away if I am not going to. So after that process I end up choosing the same contact brand and type I previously wore. They also wouldn't give me my prescription on paper to get glasses elsewhere or let me pay my bill until I pretended to look at their glasses. read more

Recently went in for my annual exam. I was very happy with how safe I felt in there and all the precautions the office has taken with COVID. Dr Duong was great and helped me get my prescription taken. Bunny was also fantastic helping me get my glasses/contacts ordered and she helped me again when the glasses came in to adjust them to my big pumpkin head lol. Thanks bunny! I recently had my eye exam with Dr. Chan. She was very professional, thorough and full of energy. I had a retinal scan performed and Dr. Chan provided me a comprehensive explanation of the findings. I was very impressed with this Dr. Mason and office staff. I was able to get an appointment quickly and easily. When I arrived in the office I was helped immediately and brought into the Doctors office very quickly after completing the paper work needed for a new patient. They even helped me use my Insurance benefits to get all i could with out paying much out of pocket. My Appointment was with Dr. Mason and she was very friendly and did a great job. Not a good experience. They misdiagnosed me and told me I have glacuma to get me to do an addtional test (nerve fiber analysis) to charge my insurance company. I ended up going to an Opthomologist who told me I was perfectly fine and no need to worry, but ruined my holiday season worrying about it. The staff was unprofessional and by the time they finished my bill was for close to a cool $500. Avoid at all cost! read more

First I want to say Dr. Thames is warm and genuine. I greatly appreciate the time he takes to explain what his is doing and why. Diana at the front desk was also friendly and warm. Other than that this office needs a lot of help when it comes to creating a highly reliable customer experience. A little about the person leaving this review... I worked for 10 years in customer service and sales before becoming a nurse. Since entering my career in healthcare I have held a number of leadership positions in which I was responsible for Quality Assurance, Highly Reliable and Just Culture, Customer Experience, Patient Relations, Regulatory, Risk Management and Patient Safety. The point? I know how important customer/patient experience is to optimum outcomes, return business and risk management. Where are the opportunities? Not one person smiled except Diana and Dr. Thames. There were two people who assisted me. One who ran a series of test and the other who "helped" me pick out a pair of frames. Neither person smiled, introduced themselves (name, title, role) or explained what to expect. They behaved as though I should already know their routine and what comes next. I have only had one pair of glasses in my life, my first pair last year, I don't work in an optometry office... I have no idea what their routine is. After my exam with Dr. Thames, he walked me over to a desk and said I could wait there and someone would be right with me. This is where things really went south. Glasses are pretty expensive, with insurance my final bill was just under $400. My experience at this point was so poor I considered cancelling my order and I called back shortly after leaving to get the name of the person who assisted me. It was Vicky. As I mentioned she did not introduce herself or explain how she would be helping me. Her tone and body language through out our entire interaction communicated disinterest and condescension.  She didn't ask me any questions so she could gain an understanding of my needs and potentially match me with the right product. She seemed to be offering as little information as possible. At the time she walked up I was looking at the light weight rimless glasses. She said those are customizable, you can get any lens with any frame. I pulled a few off the shelf to try them on. She did not explain the difference in the frames (single hinge, double hinge, no hinge) or that not all the lenses could be customized with a color trim. It was not until, close to the end of our interaction, when I specifically asked questions regarding these features that she begrudgingly offered a more detailed description. Again, glasses are not my world. I expect the person whose job it is to help me understand my options to actually have an interest in doing just that... and maybe even enjoy their job. Through out our interaction I felt as though I was pulling information out of her and I sensed her irritation when I asked a clarifying question. At the end or our interaction she finished her form and said, "your glasses will be ready in a couple weeks". She didn't look up from her form,  her body language and the long pause after that comment made it seem like she was done with me and I could go. It was awkward. She didn't direct me to the next step in the process so I asked, " do I pay when I pick them up?". She finally looked at me and said, rather sarcastically, "well we would like a little something now".  I almost never leave negative reviews but the feeling I got from Vicky was not that she was having a bad day but rather this is just her normal routine. I left with a very negative feeling after my interaction with her.  When I called to ask for the name of the person who had assisted I could tell by the response of the person on the other end that she knew why I was asking. I got the feeling there have been complaints about her before. I won't need glasses for awhile but I will be looking for a different office for the future. read more

If I could I would rate this company a 10 instead of 5. I'm new to Yelp and I just had to write a review since I have been so pleased with the service I have received in the last three years. Janet Lee is soooo helpful every time I come in! Dr. Thames, the optometrist always puts me at ease... He takes the time to explain everything and you never feel rushed. They have an amazing selection of frames and designer sunglasses that I enjoy to look at every year I come in.
