We love our midwives! From our first appointment in January to our last appointment today, Jeannie and Amanda have cared for our family with love, compassion and a level of patient care that is unparalleled by the traditional healthcare system. When the shelter in place was ordered and in subsequent months, they didn't skip a beat and provided care virtually as well as in person with proper precautions. Each appointment was an hour long over the last eight months- at home and in their office. And in between visits? My husband and I could call or text with any concerns. I had a google free pregnancy because these women educated me all along the way. I would almost call it stress free in that way, except of course I had preeclampsia and was admitted to the hospital at 35 weeks. But again, these women are the reason that this was caught. I only had a slightly elevated BP, but they know me so well that they didn't dismiss it and ultimately led to the best care decision for me and our baby. While in the hospital they were on call for us via FaceTime too, so we were never truly alone. Our postpartum care continued to be incredible. My first week home, when I had edema, elevated BP's and a hematoma in my uterus, these women stayed in contact with the doctors that were in charge of my care at the hospital and caught the need for a second opinion. They advocated for my care and encouraged me to do the same. As I transfer to routine OB care, I'm sure I'll have a good provider but I will miss the care that these women have provided for me, my husband and our baby. The truly somber feeling is that we are privileged to have had this care. Many women in the United States die from complications in pregnancy and most simply see whatever OB is available for 15 minute appointments during pregnancy and beyond. There is so much room for improvement in our healthcare system and especially in maternal/fetal medicine. read more

I always feel like shouting Jeannie and Amanda's praises from the literal rooftops. I'm a birth & postpartum doula so my standards were quite high as I interviewed different homebirth midwives. Jeannie and Amanda's combination of expertise, warmth, and just being such genuine and down-to-earth people make them a truly incredible team. On the medical side of things, they're the best. They have so much experience and I could tell they're actively staying up to date on the newest evidence and technology (in my experience, not all care providers do this). And as far as how cared-for I felt, both Jeannie and Amanda were always so communicative and on top of the logistics of what I'd need to prepare for the birth, when my appointments were, etc., while always making me feel like I was the only client they had. Basically they were extremely on top of things but never in a way that made me feel like "just another client." I could tell they really cared about me, my partner, and our family. Every prenatal visit left me feeling completely heard, understood, and like I was in expert and loving hands. During my (very fast) birth, they anticipated my needs before I could think of them. They also easily balanced their support with the support I was receiving from my partner and doula. Same with postpartum: their support was nothing short of amazing, especially as Jeannie (who's an IBCLC! Outstanding, dependable, caring, scientific midwives! I will attempt to give a review from the perspective of the support partner rather than the birthing partner. Especially as a first time father, I felt scared to always be 'behind' or less 'knowledgeable', than my wife who had already read every book on birth. So in the visits before the labour I was expecting them to the quick and not understand much of what was happening - but the reality was quite different. Our visits, not like being in a hospital were never rushed, at times I was surprised by how they could just seem like chats. And although jargon and biological processes and acronyms arose in conversation, I never felt rushed or judged by EB midwives who always gave a thoughtful explanation. EB midwives are also very good at handling the mood and psychology during the labour, which I think is really perfectly illustrated by a moment I remember. It was more than half-way through the night and approaching 24 hours of contractions. Up to this point even though Amanda was monitoring the cervical dilation, she hadn't told us the number. My internal analogy was telling me that this was like a long flight, and it only get's longer if you look at the flight map every 5 minutes. But getting frustrated with her perceived lack of progress my wife asked to know how many centimeters she was dilated. What Amanda did then I thought was really skillful, she responded by asking what difference it would make to my wife. Even though the logic I thought was really obvious we went through it out-loud: if it was high that would be 'good', and if it was low that would be 'bad'. Having spoken this out-loud we realised it wasn't going to be helpful to know, and decided to keep going on with the labour, and stay in the moment. A few minutes later the labour shifted to a new phase, and we were past that difficult junction. Our baby was born very healthily, and but we never knew 'numerically' where we were in the labour, we were encouraged to feel it. (I'll repeat though that our midwives were measuring regularly, and using standard procedure.) Perhaps this is like going by feel rather than thinking that the birth is loading progress bar on a computer. I credit EB midwives for putting us in this mindspace. A lot of midwives really eat/breathe/sleep their work and EB midwives are no exception. They took care of us and held us through our birth superbly. Firstly, before we had even decided who would be working with for our prenatal care, A&J spent over an hour on the phone with us answering my long list of questions during the consultation. They provided us extensive details about their philosophy, care, appointment cadence, priorities, COVID precautions, and more. They also provided access to the insurance expert on their team who helped us navigate our needs before we even got started with prenatal care! Unfortunately, before we began care with them, we lost our first baby. A&J were there every step of the way with texts, phone calls, and medical insight to help us navigate the process and work through our grief. In the words of my 7 year "MIDWIVES ROCK!!!" In particular, Jeannie and Amanda of East Bay Midwives who helped us welcome our second child safely in August 2020 during the pandemic. We switched to a home birth late while I was in my 3rd trimester, but with Amanda and Jeannie's professionalism, wealth of knowledge and warm demeanors, the transition was seamless and incredibly easy. They were always available via text, phone and email to answer our questions. The level of care before, during and after birth was incredible. After birth when we were texting daily updates, concerns and questions. Jeannie and Amanda made themselves continued to be easily available to talk or drop by for help with breastfeeding. Both my partner and I remarked several times after the birth how nice it was to not have to leave home during labor and after since Jeannie and Amanda came to our house for all the early postnatal care we would have received through our healthcare provider. On top of that, Jeannie is a certified lactation consultant, who really helped me during those early weeks. I can't stress enough what a difference it makes to have an on call team that includes a LC for those first 2-3 weeks when your milk is coming in and you have concerns about your baby's weight gain, latching, etc. on top of working hard to heal as well. The consistency of care made a huge difference in my recovery, and early breastfeeding comfort and success. My concerns and questions were always taken seriously and I found it easy to discuss my options without judgement. They were both great with our 7 yo who had so many questions for them. Amanda and Jeannie are very holistic in their approach to maternity care. They have the medical expertise that made me, my husband, and baby feel safe in their care while also being emotionally and physically supported by them through pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. I myself am a childbirth educator and birth doula and have pretty high standards for the healthcare professionals that I interact with, let alone participate in my birthing experience. Amanda and Jeannie went above and beyond in their care: evidence-based, empowering, encouraging, and I always had the power to make decisions. I told them at the beginning of pregnancy that I wanted my birth to be pretty hands-off and they were so accomodating in helping me accomplish that. They allowed me and my husband to take the reins and lead the way for our birth. They both stepped in at appropriate times during pregnancy and our birth to provide counsel and support to make sure that we would have the safest and best birth experience possible. Working with Jeannie and Amanda to deliver my first child was the best decision! In the middle of a pandemic, they were the shining light that made my pregnancy and birthing experience deeply personal, intimate and loving. I chose to switch from hospital delivery to home birth due to COVID-19. From the get go, Jeannie and Amanda were caring, patient, and gentle, which is exactly what I wanted and needed. I felt so taken care of throughout the process -- they have deep knowledge which made me feel comfortable and secure. I really feel like they are part of the family -- even my dog loved them. It was extraordinary to be able to give birth and have this tiny beautiful little baby girl with us -- no fuss, no muss. Afterward, when my husband and I were alone with this tiny hours-old baby, we were in heaven. And Jeannie and Amanda made that happen, ensuring that we were all fully taken care of, safe and healthy. What a gift to be home and able to revel in those first hours with our child! The post-natal visits and follow up was phenomenal -- they were there to answer my million texts and calls, even during the middle of the night! They came regularly to my home and were encouraging and motivating -- I felt great because due to their support. When I got pregnant, I had hopes of having a home birth and ultimately got introduced to Renée. In the end, I worked with Renée as a doula because my birth had some high risk factors. In our prenatal sessions, Renée helped my husband and I discuss the birth plan much more deeply than we had before. We were able to talk about fears that we couldn't have uncovered by ourselves. Renée also helped me have a great deal of agency with my doctors. She volunteered to join me at an appointment with the high risk OB team and took notes. At the appointment, she made sure that all my questions got answered to my satisfaction. I don't think I would have felt as reassured without her help. I ended up having what could have been a pretty traumatic birth situation -- emergency c-section and baby needed some quick medical attention -- but the birth itself was a great birth thanks to Renée. She stayed with me while I recovered so I wasn't alone (husband was with our baby) and also helped me on the path to providing milk for my baby. If you want someone who is calm, has excellent judgement, is flexible, but appropriately assertive, you want Renée. read more

We worked with Jeannie as our lactation consultant in the Fall of 2018 when we were having a nightmare of a time helping our little guy latch successfully and my milk wasn't coming in. She was, hands down, our favorite provider in our birth experience! She was the perfect mix of warm and professional, knowledgeable and relatable. She was responsive, attentive, creative, and flexible, which is what you need most when you're in the throws of being a new mother. I felt she really listened to my and my husband's concerns and was direct without being alarmist. She even made an extra stop to do a final weigh-in for our baby Indra at the end of our time receiving her services and that extra mile, along with her genuine enthusiasm when we finally got into a good breastfeeding groove, touched us so deeply. We truly feel she is the reason we've been able to breastfeed successfully and we're just about to finish our first year, with hopes of another year or two! We can't recommend her services highly enough and hope we will be able to work with her again when we have baby #2! read more

Jeannie provided me with the best birthing and postpartum experiences I could have imagined. My partner and I changed our birth plan from a hospital to a home birth at 37 weeks. Jeannie embraced our last-minute change of plans, established a supportive and trusting relationship with us, and helped us get our home and ourselves prepared in that short amount of time. During the birth and our care under her, she was always respectful, intuitive, responsive, and brilliant. There are so many examples of how wonderful Jeannie was and is, but all I need to say is -- Jeannie is IT if you are wanting midwifery care! read more

Jeannie is an incredible midwife - knowledgeable and evidence-based while remaining sensitive and attentive to my/our every need during the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. She has a really down-to-earth personality and great sense of humor, which was awesome for me since this was my first pregnancy AND I'm a healthcare provider myself (I was pretty nervous!) During the birth there were a few complications, which she recognized and managed so carefully and thoughtfully so that they never became issues that required us to leave our home. Her support and guidance in the weeks after birth were also impressive - in particular her lactation expertise really came in handy for us. I can't recommend Jeannie enough! read more
