My favorite place to take my fur babies to as I know they are in good hands. A few years back my baby Neo was attacked by a bob cat and they nurse him back to great health as many dogs don't make it after that. I just wanted to take the time to write a review on yelp for our wonderful veterinary practice in East Plano/Murphy. We live in West Plano and drive for 30 minutes just to come to this practice. Their vets are so caring and knowledgeable, and we also really love dealing with all the techs because they, too, are so caring, knowledgeable and ready to answer questions anytime. They have extremely low turnover with their techs, so it's great that we've had the same ones for nearly 10 years. Our pets have both loved to come, and our current poodle literally runs from the car to the front door (on a leash of course)- she can't wait to get in. I highly recommend this veterinary practice to anyone. read more

I dropped off my cat for his yearly vaccines on Friday. After three days, He got sick. He started to sneeze, and it was increasing. I dropped him again; they kept him 5-6 hours and gave some antibiotic injections, and sent him home. But He got worse. On Wednesday, He fainted cause He wasn't able to breathe. I dropped him medvet Dallas. He stayed there two days, and I paid a fortune cause they are ER and expensive. And they found out He had an upper respiratory infection and he is in severe condition and infection affected his eyes. And this sickness is really contiguous from other cats. Mistakes can happen; I don't have a problem with it. BUT they called me on Friday and said they could take care of him for Saturday so that it would be cheaper. I was more than happy to accept it. I dropped my cat on Saturday morning. And when I picked him up, I asked them if they gave him eye drops. They didn't. I clearly told them his eye drops should be given every 6 hours. And then, on Saturday evening, he got worse, and I headed to ER again. And later found out THEY DIDN'T EVEN MAKE SURE MY CAT HAD HIS PILLS WHICH WAS REALLY IMPORTANT ANTIBIOTIC FOR HIM AT THIS MOMENT. I FOUND HIS PILL IN HIS CARRIER. If you guys are not willing to take good care of my pet, then do not offer it. Or don't do this job. I can see you guys are cruel people. When I called them, they said: "he didn't leave his carrier" they left him in his carrier ALL-DAY! Unbelievable. read more

This vet will do anything to add revenue. It's not about the pets. Because I used a drive thru vaccine clinic prior to going here, they wanted to booster all vaccines on my dogs. Making their annual shots $300 per dog. They had already done the treatment, and now since I refused to do boosters their vaccines are now expired and just got them done. read more

Let me start off my saying I am so pleased with the care my pup recieved today. 11 PM last night my dog had a run in with a bunny and suffered some cuts on his face as well as his front wrist. After cleaning them all up he seemed fine, however the next morning around 7 AM he was limping and said wrist was very inflamed. I called multiple vets offices I know of (Not including East Plano at first), but eventually settled with Banfield in Pet Smart in Wylie because all offices I called could not fit us in. After checking in, I was quoted $700 at least from them, but didn't care as I was very worried about my dog. I brought him, went through the paperwork, and was told I'd get a call. I clarified how long this would take and was told intake is in the morning and he will sit in a kennel for hours until they begin to get to all the dogs in house. Hearing this, I kept my search up for a real vet's office and asked for my boy back. East Plano Murphy Pet Hospital said they could get him in. Based off my experience with Banfield, I asked when he would be looked at. It was 8:45, I was told the Doctor comes in at 9 and will look at him within the hour. At 10.30 I got a call making sure it was okay they do an X-ray, and at 11:15 they called to let me know he was done! My total? $100 over HALF of what Banfield quoted me. The medication pricing was shockingly affordable, as well as the low cost visit flat fee was suprising to me. We have finally found our forever vet, and I could not be more happy with the care my baby recieved. The staff were very nice and answered any questions I had, and my boy came back smiling tail wagging even though he was totally out of his element. Lastly, his vaccines need to be updated. At Banfield, I shared this and asked they be updated while he was there and they happily obliged. East Plano, however, advised me that they do not give vaccines while pups are on an antibiotic course as they can have interactions. I simply did not know this, and was so happy that they knew better, as this was news to me. I was expecting to pay over 2x what my total ended up being. I've seen a lot of 1 star comments having to do with pricing, but animal care is expensive in itself, no matter where you go. Sure, you may find somewhere a little cheaper, but the convenience and care is so worth it. We will be back in 10 days for his follow up! read more

I will start by saying that this is a clean facility and the staff is very friendly. However, they will charge you an arm and a leg for everything. I took my two cats in for their yearly wellness visit and vaccines, and during this visit they told me that both cats needed serious dental work and that both cats needed extractions. They gave me an estimate for $2,500-$5,000 PER CAT for this procedure. I got several second opinions and eventually took them to a different vet to get their teeth cleaned. The vet said that both of them had great looking teeth...no extractions needed and simply just needed a cleaning. For one of the cats, they said that they were shocked they (East Plano Murphy Pet Hospital) even recommended a cleaning as she is only 3 years old and her teeth are in perfect condition. Yet East Plano Murphy Pet hospital said she need 2k worth of dental work and extractions? So insane... definitely will not return to this vet. read more

Our Max has been coming to the same vet since he was a puppy. We started going to their original location closer to home. Once they moved to this location we had to follow them. We have always been happy with how much the staff is so caring and how well they all do their job from the moment you check in. We don't board him at this location since we think it's more suitable to smaller dogs as their backyard is average home-size. Our dog is a German Shepherd and we like for him to be very active and running with his doggy friends when we are away. If we ever have a smaller pup we wouldn't hesitate on trying their boarding services. My puppy is healthy and in shape thanks to his vet! -one happy customer :) read more

This is the absolute worst vet I have ever encountered. I would not even take a flea off of my dog's back here. My dog had been vomiting for about a week so I brought her in to be checked. They insisted on doing bloodwork, an X-ray, and ear cultures as they said she had a severe ear infection. After the X-ray they claimed she had a "severe fecal impaction" and needed an enema immediately. Without telling me, they also charged me for things I did not ask for such as laxatives, ear antibiotic drops, anti-nausea etc. She was having severe diarrhea through the night and they got mad when she was having diarrhea in the exam room. What the hell do you expect after an enema? I left that day with a bill of $800! The next morning she woke up screaming and crying out in pain. I took her to another vet and brought the X-rays they took and other results. Why? Come to find out she was given an enema and didn't have an impaction at all and nor did she have an ear infection. They actually punctured her ear drum when taking the cultures. These people took advantage of me and led me to believe my dog had a serious issue and put her through a very painful and unnecessary procedure. Given that she was NOT constipated they could have perforated her bowel. I am not an expert when it comes to animal health and I trusted this vet to correctly diagnose and treat my dog when in reality I was seen as a young and naive 20 year old girl and was taken advantage of and am now out of $800. My dog could also have been even more seriously injured aside from a puncture in her eardrum. I called them the explain the situation of what happened at the other vet and they said they would reimburse me partially, but call back and speak with someone "tomorrow". I did, and the woman had no idea what I was talking about and claimed they never "do anything like that." So now as a broke college student, I am out of $800, have a sick dog due to an enema that was given without need, and am absolutely furious with this place. Please, send your pets elsewhere. Even regardless of their outrageous prices, they are extremely incompetent and deserve to be reported for negligence. I will never step foot in their doors again. I will use every platform I possibly can to spread this around and ensure I can stop as many people as I can from enduring the same horrors my dog and I have been through. read more

I took my two puppies who I am currently fostering in for a heart worm test and when I returned to pick them up, both my dogs were covered in dried feces. I don't know whether it was their own or not. Additionally, to cover up the smell, it seemed as if they were sprayed with a strong smelling perfume. But animal lover beware, during your most vulnerable time, they also price gouge. Charged $300 to euthanize a 10 pound dog. I called 6 vets after and no one charges more than $150. It was an extremely emotional time, we didn't expect to put him down that day, he had been with us for over 12 years. The other reviews are correct, they only care about padding their wallets for the fancy cars and houses. When I called the next day to ask what the price entailed, they said it had to do with cremation costs, so I asked if I came to pick him up and burry him here at home what the cost would be and Cynthia said it would be the same price. So she had no idea what she was talking about..... she was trying to fill my head full of crap. I asked to have Jocelyn, the manager to call me, she never did, after 5 hours I called and she gave me the same BS. They should and will be turned in to the BBB and the licensing committee for taking advantage people's emotional state and price gouging. ***Attention all former Dr. McLaughlin clients*** Be advised that in my opinion, you will not receive the same quality of care you are used to from Dr. McLaughlin. I dropped my sick cat off on Monday & was given a "high end" estimate of $400.0 for her care. 2 hours later I received a phone call informing me I owed a deposit. The amount due? $400.00. There was no word the rest of the day about my cat, my husband received an email survey requesting feedback Tuesday morning. He replied with "no issues with the quality of care but was not happy with the intake & having to pay upfront " there was still no communication from the vet all of Tuesday & my husband called for an update that evening & he spoke to a vet who suggested a shot, he asked for the cost of the shot & was told it was $50.00. My husbands flippant response was " Well you've already fleeced me for 400 what is another 50?" Dr. Paul explained the reason for the shot & acknowledged that costs can quickly add up. We approved the cost & the call was ended amicably. On Tues night we we summoned to the hospital because the owner Dr. Hector Carbonell, had received the survey provided by my husband & wanted to discuss it. After a 30 talk we understand why the cat was ill & after we requested the amount of the ongoing cost we were satisfied when we left & anticipated no further issues. The practice of no communication from the office did continue for 2 additional days however & we called frequently for updates. We were asked to come back in to the office Thursday night under the premise that the cat was gravely ill & needed to be transferred to an animal hospital (keep in mind, the word hospital is in their name) we were then informed by Dr. Carbonell that he had been made aware of phone conversation between my husband & Dr. Paul that occurred on Tues where the word "fleeced" was used & his feelings were hurt. This vet kicked a sick animal out in the middle of treatment because he had his feelings hurt. He then warned us to be careful if we post a negative review on social media, as he "goes after" those people. This is the 1st negative review I've ever left specifically because of that comment. I would strongly suggest you do not visit this vet. read more

Building off Bobbi L's review - after being evicted from this practice on Thursday, I called the office 4 times Friday to request our records that migrated from Dr. McLaughlin's office and 4 times the office manager, Michelle found a reason to not talk to me. I sent an email over the weekend to say I would be there Mon after work to pick them up. I showed up and Michelle left the lobby to never be seen again. One by one the staff disappeared to the back with no explanation as to why I was not promptly given my records. 40 minutes later somebody was finally kind enough to ask again what I needed. It took almost an hour to get copies of records! It seems to me Dr. Carbonell fosters a culture of disdain and rude behavior towards customers that fail to stroke his ego. I started taking my dogs to this vet over a year ago when we moved here. One of my dogs doesn't like people outside our family. She barks, growls and the hair on her back stands up. They assigned us a specific vet tech and they were so patient with her acclimating to them. This is the only place we can take her for shots and nail trims. When we called, they advised us that there was no vet there today and we would need to come to another location. Our new dog hates to ride and that is why we chose that location. Very unprofessional. This vet is insanely overpriced!! They took advantage of us in a vulnerable situation with our dying dog. This happened Sept 2018. We came in needing care for our dog suffering from an enlarged heart valve. They charged double for 2 weeks worth of medication to see if it would help. Once we knew the meds weren't working and went back the charges that followed to sedate our dog, give oxygen until our family could arrive and the enormous amount they charged for euthanasia and lastly the additional enormous amount charged for cremation now we know we were grossly over charged in comparison to other local vets ! Now, one year later, we just went through the exact same again with our second Maltese. This time we used another local vet getting the exact same meds with the same end result for a 1/4 of the cost! East Plano Murphy Pet Hospital grossly overcharges and I DO NOT recommend them. You have several other local options and I highly recommend researching! read more

I am so happy with this practice. My dog got seen within 5 minutes of coming into the clinic. She had eaten chocolate (again!) and they got her back right away and got her to throw up and on fluids. I made a surprise visit later on and saw one of the technicians sitting with her and loving on her. I just got a great vibe from them. I had called a friend to recommend her vet and they couldn't see her for over an hour. These guys knew I needed help and provided it! I'm so happy!!! Did not have a good experience with this pet hospital. Was one of the patients transferred from Dr. McLaughlin. Was not a warm and caring environment but more of a numbers and dollars environment. Never saw the same vet twice. Was not given credit for knowing the habits of my own pet. Follow-up was never done, I had to initiate the phone calls. Finally made the decision to switch vets and asked them to please forward my pet's records as I was not coming back. We get to the new vet and - NO RECORDS. These people seem nice but I'm gonna be honest. This place is WAY over priced.. we have a puppy and an older cat and this is close to our home. We've taken our puppy here for one round of shots but I just felt like they were adding onto the costs unnecessarily so I called around and took him to a different place for his next round and got a much better deal including 6 months heartworm treatment for less than just one shot there.. then we had an issue with my older cat. All signs of UTI.. we called there and they wanted blood tests, X-ray ect and told us the cost would be 700.00.. if this is a UTI I don't see why they need blood tests and Xrays so we took him to a different location and got him seen for less than 200.00.. I get they prob want to do a full round on my cat since they've never seen him and want a full checkup on everything but he's older, he's an indoor cat with no other issues ever so I felt like they were over doing it a little bit.. for regular issues I wouldn't take my pet here. read more

They evicted me from their practice in the most cowardly way and there follow up does not exist. I forced to use this practice as I followed Dr. McLaughlin. I brought my dog Jack to EPMPH because I was not happy with the treatment we had received from our former vet. I was so impressed by the service and care we received. On our very first visit Dr. Paul personally called me after she examined Jack, when I came to pick him up that evening she sat with me and went over all of her findings, she was thorough and let me ask questions. I never got the feeling that I was being rushed out. I was blown away! I had never received that kind of attention from our old vet. Dr. Carbonell, Dr. Johnson and Dr. Paul are incredible veterinarians, they are knowledgeable, professional and so compassionate. Everyone on the staff is so nice and welcoming, one particular veterinary technician by the name of Nicole (love you Nicole) went above and beyond the call of duty for us. Jack became ill and stopped eating in early January. We were to start a regimen of meds to get him to eat and feeling better, we were then going pursue finding out what was wrong with him. Nicole knew I was very apprehensive about trying to get all those meds down Jack over the weekend, she gave me her personal cell phone number and told me to call her if I had any questions about Jack's care regimen. Again, blown away! She did NOT have to do that at all but she knew that I was very concerned about my baby boy. She was an angel to us through all of this. I told them we didn't want to get in debt trying to find out what was wrong with him then ultimately lose him anyway. They gave us some options we felt comfortable with but Jack had other plans, he was ready to go. He wouldn't take the meds, eat or drink and looked at me with those eyes that said "It's time for me to go Mom." We put him down on January 11th. My husband and I were completely destroyed, he was only 8 years old. Dr. Paul offered at no extra charge to us, to examine him post mortem to see what she could find because again we still didn't know the root cause of what was making Jack sick. She found he had cancer in his spleen and liver. Just knowing that gave us so much peace, to know we did the right thing for our sweet boy by letting him go. Dr. Johnson performed the procedure for us, she had tears in her eyes the entire time and hugged us so tight afterward. She is so awesome, they all are. True animal lovers! My mother has been a client of East Plano Murphy Pet Hospital over the past several years and the few times I have gone with her to help with an animal I've been so happy to see how she and the dogs were treated. Most recently, it was when her beloved Irish Wolfhound needed to be put to sleep. A very sad time for us, but made easier not only by the care shown us by the staff but the fact that they have a "pet taxi" so they were able to come to her house to pick the dog up since there was no way for us to lift her due to her size. This was the first time I've seen a clinic provide this service and I thought it was wonderful. Unfortunately, I have been without a dog personally for almost five years, but I did foster a puppy in 2017 and when I couldn't get into the group's vet when he needed care, EPMPH was able to work us in and took very good care of him. They took their time discussing his care with me and then even asked my mom several times how he was doing after I'd been there. This is the type of thing that is so important to me when I'm seeking care for my animals - will they listen to me and do they care. Prices can vary from clinic to clinic depending on a lot of factors, but it's worth paying a little extra if I feel like both my animal and I are being taken care of. read more

After reading the recent poor reviews here and elsewhere, the only comfort I feel is in knowing my growing concerns and feelings of discomfort when doing business here are not unwarranted. I am so saddened by my experience with this Vet. I had originally gone to see Hector Carbonell at the location off Los Rios and it was wonderful. Now that the place has moved, it all has been bad. The Doctor who originally saw my dog for having seizures, simply was really nice, but wasn't listening to anything I had to say. Then when I took him to get boarded, I was not told over the phone about certain fees I was being charged. I asked to speak with a doctor because of sensitive issues of my pet and concerns I had medically about leaving him - no one would come talk to me - then I was called on the way home that everything needed to be updated, which all cost more money. If I didn't have plans to go out of town, I would have turned my car around and gone straight to pick up my dog. I left there that day, feeling all they wanted was more money from me and had no desire, as if I was an inconvenience for asking to speak to a doctor....We won't be back! Money factory read more
