I'm so happy that I found East West Art & Frame!!! I dealt with Liane Kim, who is the owner. She is an absolute delight to work with and has a great artistic eye! I came to her with a very SPECIAL project. My 10-year-old daughter is a talented artist and recently drew a self-portrait that I framed for sentimental reasons and posterity. Liane helped me create the PERFECT framing to compliment the drawing and highlight my daughter's unique style and the picture's whimsical feeling. Liane was able to perfectly match the gold, metallic colors in the picture with just the right double matting, which (by the way) she painstakingly sorted through several color palettes before landing on a "special" one hidden in the back. I was so impressed with Liane's artistry (she is also a painter) and her authentic enthusiasm and commitment to my project. Furthermore, this was a Christmas present, so Liane completed the framing in a timely manner and was very reasonably priced. Note, I originally went to a different shop that wanted to charge me twice what Liane charged. Plus, the medium glass Liane recommended is so clear that it hardly looks framed, not to mention it will preserve my daughter's artwork for years to come (without fading). Being 1/8" means one would need to do a double mat with spacers ... quite expensive. instead, once I seal my project, Liane mounts it for me without glass and mats. UPDATE: East West provided my Mother a full refund and kind note of apology. I feel it is important to share this as it shows the integrity of this business. Thank you. We were sorely disappointed in the quality of work my mother paid for at East West Art & Frame. Maybe it was because my mother is elderly, or maybe it was because she was framing a special handmade poem she had written for my husband and me. Either way, we tried to get an acceptable result two times- poem was not straight in the frame, a very poor quality easel was too big, and finally the person helping my mom just kept repeating what good deal she was getting. $75 for a 5x7 frame. My mother provided the art work, a gold leaf fillet, and there was no glass. All we needed was the poem to be mounted to the frame and easel. We ended up redoing the entire back ourselves with a classy back from Michael's. read more

A few months ago, I bought a number of vintage, original NASA photographs from the Apollo missions in the late 1960's and early 1970's. I obviously wanted to make sure that they were properly framed and preserved, so I was a little bit nervous about taking them out in town. From the minute I walked in and met Liane, I knew that I made the right decision in coming to her shop. The reason that I came here is because of the good reviews...These must be people that enjoy getting talked at... If I could give this place a negative 5 stars I would! My daughter in law who lives in Switzerland painted a beautiful large portrait of my parents . I had to take out the stretcher bars and roll the painting up to bring it on the plane with me...I took it to this shop and I can not believe what the owner did!! First of all she took up 45 minutes of our meeting talking about herself and telling me everything I never wanted to know about her...I very specifically told her that I wanted to have the same stretcher bars put back onto the canvas and gave her everything she needed. I told her that in 2 weeks I would be taking it up to Santa Barbara for my parents anniversary party..she said no problem I can have it done in 1 week. After 10 days I called her and she had totally forgotten about it!! She didn't even know where it was!! She called me back and said she didn't have time to do it but she would "hire" someone else to do it...When I came to pick it up the person had used some flimsy stretcher bars in the canvas and hadn't even centered the painting! AND the WORST part he had "trimmed" the painting off to fit his cheap bars!!! The owner hadn't remembered to give him the wide bars and couldn't even find them for 20 minutes...she sort of apologized and then started in on her jabbering about herself...So, basically I had to take the painting to someone else and now it is smaller because the bozo cut it!!! It was painted all the way around the edges of the canvas!! OMG!! This place is THE WORST!! If you want to get talked to death and then a terrible half ass job then go here...otherwise stay clear!! In her response to my review the owner goes one step further and lies about what happened...it's almost laughable ... how and why would I want to use "ready made" stretcher bars..hahah they were European sizing and that's what I explained to her.. as for telling her an emotional story about what the painting was for, uh yeah I wanted it to be ready for the 65 anniversary.. this woman is a bad human... You've been warned...bring popcorn and a comfy chair cause you're gonna get talked to death but not listened to! Probably the worst choice for a frame shop!i read more
