Ordered some helium balloons on-line for a friend's Bachelor party. So glad Carlsbad/La Costa could fulfill the order and exactly as promised by the next morning. Great deal for 12 helium-filled balloons for $12. They put the completed order (with a great plastic clip in a separate room for you to pickup. Also they have your order on a board in the front of the store to confirm it's ready! What's sad is that I live in Encinitas and the city of Encinitas banned any helium balloons in the city. They also banned gas powered lawn mowers and weed whackers. So Michael's Encinitas CANNOT sell helium-filled balloons. read more

Brought in an old b/w photo print for custom framing. They charged me $560. The framing took 2 weeks later than promised. They ordered the wrong size matte. When I finally went to pick it up, the photo had "ripples"--like waves. It was not mounted flush to a backing before framing. I asked them why they didn't dry mount it. They said they don't do that, due to the age of the print. I asked them why didn't they tell me that before they took my $560. No answer. They offered to add more "backing". I went back a few days later to pick up the print. There was very little difference. Now the back cover was wrinkled, like it was slapped together. I felt as I didn't have much choice but to bring it home as it was--it was a unique print and probably hard to replace. Live and learn. read more

I LOVE this Michael's! They are clean, organized, and always have great clearance items! They're fake plant section is huge and makes me feel like I'm walking through a tropical jungle. They have a great framing section with a staff member always ready to assist you! The staff is very knowledgeable and happy to plan or discuss an ongoing project! This is truly my one stop shop for beads, paint, tie dye and T-shirts! Michael's almost always put out a weekly coupon! So make sure to check the news paper before you go shopping. If you forget to check the newspaper talk to a checkout clerk and ask them how you can sign up for a Michael's account. It does not come as a credit card, it stores all your receipts, and gives you access to the latest coupons! This place is all about the Christmas Craft for my students. I usually do not visit Michaels until around the holidays, but when I do, I know exactly what I need! I am always on the look out for those foam Christmas ornaments that the children can easily put together and decorate. I picked up a pack of the little owls and the Christmas reefs that they can make and hang on their trees. They were all 50% off so I was a happy camper. The items were a little hard to find for me, but a young lady helped me locate them. There were a lot of people here during my visit so the lines were long. I was a little disappointed that they did not have all the register opened so the main line moved quite slowly. Been to this location about five times in the last six months. As an artist (painter) who dabbles in making jewelry, flower wreaths, sewing and calligraphy; I come here because they have it ALL! If I don't know where something is, the staff are always willing to help. Customer service is superb at this location. Even during the holidays when this place was packed, the staff were still helpful, pleasant and the long lines went by quickly. Great location with plenty of parking. One of the better organized locations if you are a Michael's fan. On this occasion, I needed help finding organza gift bags and an employee walked with me to the location. (usually it's hard to find assistance at other locations). And the aisles are a decent size even with the general floorplan that tries to cram everything together so that a normal size shopping cart would never fit! I'm on the Michael's email list that provides additional promotions and savings, but it does get old very fast, with one email EVERY day. ugh. So I opt out and then eventually resort back to opting in when I need to plan for a big project or event. Still not a big fan of the company, but this location is better than others! read more

Beautiful brand new Michaels in the area, but do we really need two about 5 miles away from each other?!!? This location has all the same stuff the other location in Encinitas has, just some smaller aisles and they also have a classroom type setting where you can do birthday parties and stuff like that! So cool!! The downfall is that when they have a line of 9 people deep (I counted) they only had 2 cashiers that both took their time and just really made the kids get antsy. read more

A couple days ago, I was having trouble with a return. The very nice sales associate called the manager over to help us. I believe the manager's name was Kelli if i remember her name tag correctly... Immediately, Kelli had a tone and a bad attitude with the sales associate. I was uncomfortable for the employee trying their best to explain the situation. I had a good shopping experience but this interaction with the manager does not make me want to go back to this store as it is not as welcoming as I had believed prior to this experience. read more

Michaels sort of lost me as a customer after Hobby Lobby opened up in San Marcos. The Michaels Encinitas location was always a wreck and the service was beyond terrible so I had to be extra desperate to step foot in there. So understandably, it took me awhile to visit this new store even though it's a stones throw away from the house. I was pleased to find that this new location was clean and nicely organized. The staff while still not overly helpful, they at least smile (on occasion). I'm convinced that it's their company culture where they don't stress the importance of pleasantries and good customer service. That's unfortunate for a company and generally, a person. Don't you want to be happy and pleasant to be around? Even when you're in the workplace? This year, I needed to update some of the floral items in my holiday decorations and some of the items that I use in the scenery of my Department 56 village. And if it wasn't too chaotic in the store, I'd look at art supplies for the little one. Since I was in the area, I thought i'd stop in to check it out. What did I have to lose? The small floral Christmas picks that I was looking for was pretty empty but given the time of year, this is expected. Most craft stores start putting their xmas stuff out before Halloween! Ugh. that's a topic for another day. Next on the shopping list was art supplies for my little one. She has just begun to dabble in painting so decided to pick up a few canvas' that she could paint and give as gifts to family this holiday season. They had many to choose from and they were in packs (and on sale!) so this was a huge win. I planned on getting 8. I also spotted a rolling cart in mint (http://www.michaels.com/mint-lexington-3-tier-rolling-cart-by-recollections/10503531.html#q=cart&start=2) that fits in with the theme of my daughters' playroom. It was a good find because it holds all her art supplies so we can just roll them out when we need it. I ended up buying another one in white to store all her activity/busy bags that we rely on when we're out at restaurants, running errands and on long road trips. We store this one by the door so she can grab one on the way out and toss it back in when we return. It doesn't go with the decor of our home -- but neither does the abundance of toys and stuffed animals she's accumulated in her 2.5 years of life. ; ) So, overall. Our visit to this Michaels was a success and I'm willing to put this store back on the list of stores I'll visit when working on one of many projects. I just know I won't get the great service I get a Hobby Lobby. Maybe...hopefully...that will change. read more

Good and friendly sales staff like Elizabeth, was negated by the manager's poor customer service. She had to apologize for her manager's attitude. The manager, Margaret, was rude to us and made us feel like crap instead of apologizing for placing products in the wrong spot.
