It is a great place to people watch, and I find it ironic that someone has built a giant art project featuring a surfing Buddha made entirely of trash, given that many of the products sold there are going to end up there. The symbolism of Encinitas culture is hard to ignore with Paramahansa Yogananda's Ashram Center and Meditation Gardens perched above one of the greatest surfing spots in the world.

My favorite booth by Road Trip seemed almost more of an art experience in itself, than a destination, picnic baskets, blankets, and pie. Some other favorites are the custom suits and the earrings made from bathing suits and they are waterproof! The VW Van and cars were fab and fitting for the day, the one side silver, one side gold marijauna earrings were a crack up and we picked up an acid dyed fedora from the 70's for my husband. And he hates vintage shopping. What a fun find. I think we missed the vinyl. They may have been playing it vs selling it. If you wanted you could pay $8 and make a macrame key chain on-site. And for $60 get a VIP ticket for Peltzer wine, a cocktail bar, a lunch ticket and a private lounge area with tents for shelter. All could attend free. I grew up going to swap meets, with one down the street for me, but this is hands down the BIGGEST one that I've been to. So big that my friends and I got split up immediately and it was somewhat difficult to find each other and leave towards the end since there's just rows and rows and aisles and aisles each and which way you turn with some dead ends here and there. There's food vendors and of course, lots of trinket, electronics, thrifted, home goods, and so much more. There's plants, fresh fruit, nuts, a neat little accordion (not sure what it's called but it's antique looking and little mechanical bits and pieces to it) that a performer had, jewelry, toys, video games, unique artwork, school supplies, clothes, etc. Before entering, we saw a vendor selling 6 pieces of clothing for $10. Friend got a bunch of accessories and jewelry for under $20. I got a cool 2 headed T-rex for $2. Some cool things were vintage Beanie Babies and the Panda Express restaurant signs? I'm not a gamer but there are a few booths that sell everything from consoles to controllers to classic cartridge games. There's also the flower stands and the fruit and veggie booths, gorgeous vintage and handmade jewelry, and mounds of T-shirts and hoodies...you will find something to spend your money on and you won't regret it for even a second.

There is definitely a wide variety of stuff, from vintage clothing, to old car emblems, home decor, old business signs, and toys that, depending on your age, might make you remember the good old days. Prices can be a bit high, and some vendors will haggle, but this isn't really the kind of market where you get an amazing deal. Most people know what they have and know the market for their stuff. Vendors are still friendly though and will chat about what they have. Located in the old Laguna Hills parking lot, it has about 10-12 rows of vendors that are about 50 yards long. Last time we went there was an agua fresca stand but no food vendors. Even though it's in a parking lot, parking can be a challenge so be prepared. Everything is under construction as the mall is closed down and the buildings are empty so people kind of just park wherever. All that said, this can make for a great weekend activity to get out and walk around. Though it is infinitely better in the morning when it is less crowded and cooler outside! Being in a parking lot there is no shade and things heat up quickly in the afternoon. Overall, a solid local experience, especially if you like flea markets.

While small, it was great because the shops and restaurants that we visited were all excellent. We even got to see Dean Norris from the TV show Breaking Bad at the restaurant he owns on the main strip. Nice to see him be able to relax and enjoy himself. The Old Town Night Market takes place at Bailey's Restaurant on the terrace in Old Town Temecula. It is the second Tuesday of each month. Approximately 30 local makers and curators come out. Bailey's opens a full bar and they have a taco stand on-site. The activities and drawings change, this month a DJ, art and a photo booth and a Halloween theme of course. The market which is dog friendly is something we love. Our husbands went next door to Devilicous to have a beer and took the dogs so we could shop which was a dream. Cara and I strolled the market and got to know the vendors. She picked up an embroidered jacket and I picked up a handwoven bag. Although, we spent the most time with a fun mother and daughter! Check out Sparkle Sloth Studio...I introduced the biz to a few Yelpers already, as they have some fun contests. The make glitter coffee, wine and other tumblers with custom sayings just for you.
