I was referred to this company. I made an initial call for the owner to come out and look at my pieces and she instructed me to take photos and send them to her. I thought it to be odd to not see the product to give an accurate estimate. I sent photos and rough measurements. I never received an acknowledgement of my message. I waited it a few days and reached out. Days later I received a response my message was received. I waited quite a few more days and reached out again to see how the estimate was going. No response. A few more days had passed and I tried again. She said she would have it the next day. Two days later a random estimate arrived with no correspondence to accompany it. The bid was extremely high. Never a follow up from the owner. The reviews are good and she came highly recommended. Terrible customer service. read more

Our vintage chair got a makeover. It's from the 1950s, reportedly from Perino's Restaurant in Los Angeles. It had been painted and covered in a white vinyl with painted white nailheads. A few years ago one of the front legs broke off. We had the paint stripped and stained, new cushion filling, covered in soft vegan leather, fixed the leg and made the structure more sturdy overall. We're very happy to have it back and it's so comfy. read more

I into went Sickels to have them re-upholster my truck bench seat after hearing nothing but great things from a coworker. This seat was tired, stained, torn and on its last leg. So I dropped it I off at Sickels, fingers crossed, hoping they could work a miracle. Oh boy was I surprised at what they gave back to me. The seat looked brand new! Better than new! Not only did they replace all the worn fabric and vinyl, but they rebuilt the foam to restore the original shape. No more back (and butt) pain for me. I stopped by last week to have a pillow repaired -- the thread holding the double button in the front and back of a custom couch pillow had broken, and I didn't have the proper needle to fix it. I walked in and was greeted and helped immediately. My pillow was repaired on the spot, and I was only charged $5 for the repair! If I ever have additional upholstery needs, I will definitely have them addressed by Sickel's. read more

I had a split on my Honda Gold Wing motorcycle factory seat. The fellow working there cut three small samples and brought them outside to my motorcycle to see what he could do in matching the existing seats color and grain in patching and matching. It didn't appear that is was going to be promising but he said that he would do his best. A factory seat can cost over $1000 and you just don't reupholster them because of the preformed shape and all of the curves. I was told it would be ready in 2 - 2 1/2 weeks. It was ready in a week and a half. In the piece he used to match to the existing seat, he created a seam and sewed it to the seat. The color and grain matched really well. There is no way you can tell it was aftermarket work. I was really impressed. read more

As a designer, I have used Sickel's for upholstery projects for my clients and my experience has always been positive. In the one case where there was an issue (a crooked seam in a valence), they promptly fixed it and put the valence back up. Michelle knows the business well and as a rule gets estimates back to us in 24 hours. She explains possible issues without being patronizing, and she has been accommodating when it comes to arranging site visits. I am glad that they are here in downtown Escondido. My first experience with Sickel's Fabrics and Upholstery was a very regretful one. I provided them with various fabrics that I had sought out from multiple fabric stores to have panels made for three windows. More than two hundred dollars later, I received panels of the wrong dimensions and of the wrong amount. Some of the panels did not even extend past the bottom of the length of the window and I was short two panels on two separate windows. Ultimately, these curtains I had spent a significant amount of money on to have custom made were unusable. This meant that this unique and irreplaceable material that I had specifically tracked down was ruined. Although this was a bad first experience with them, my options for a seamstress that was accessible to me were limited, so I decided to give them another chance. However, my more recent experience with them was completely unacceptable. I dropped off pre-made curtains to get shortened and requested that the leftover material be used to make additional curtains. I spent nearly half an hour going in detail the dimensions of the windows, the size of the curtains, measurements of my rods, etc. to an employee that worked at the front desk. After she recorded this information that I very carefully elaborated on, she explained that she would contact me if she needed any additional information. I did not hear anything from them until I called more than a week later to check on the status of my curtains. They had not started the process because they were unclear of the job, but did not copy down a phone number to contact me. I made multiple attempts to contact the manager of the store to explain everything to her, but never was able to reach her or to get her to return my calls. Finally, after one week and four days of my curtains sitting in their shop, my boyfriend decided to pick up my material. In addition to all of this disorganization and poor management skills, the blonde woman (manager) immediately made a number of nonsensical excuses as to why there had been no communication. She was extremely rude and instantly defensive, accusing me of having an impossible schedule that prevented her from reaching me and for leaving no description at all of what I wanted to get done (which was in fact done 11 days prior with great detail). Instead of admitting their mistakes, she made several excuses and pointed the finger at me in a very unprofessional manner. This establishment is a combination of poor craftsmanship and atrocious customer service. read more

My family owns a travel trailer that we take out often for family camping trips. Within our trailer are several skylights that let in a lot of light that we sometimes want to cover when watching a movie inside or darkening a bedroom for sleeping. Sickel's Fabric and Upholstery made us beautiful custom vinyl cushions that fit securely in each of the skylights! They don't fall out and also wipe clean if needed. The cheap sheepskin ones we were using would always fall out and be full of lint or dirt. We could also never find one to fit the size of the kitchen skylight. These are custom made. We are absolutely satisfied with the quality of our purchase and highly recommend their exceptional skill and customer service! read more

I thought it would be nice to have the seat bottoms of my kitchen table re-upholstered so I took them to Sickel's. First quote was 270.00 , then before I left the shop, it went up to 280.00, they said it would take two weeks. A week into the two weeks, I got a call that I needed new foam, it was my understanding on the second bid of 280. that they would put a topper over the existing foam, anyhoo, long story short, it went up to 340.00!!...crazy. Originally I paid 400.00 for the table and chairs brand new! Not happy with the money grab at Sickel's, so if you venture into Sickel's, beware $$$. read more

I used Sickles long ago to have them make drapes and window seat cushions of which I was extremely pleased with their work. So I retuned to have four (4) outdoor drapes made with my supplied material. I took it in on Sept 10, 2013, the girl at the counter said someone would called me with a price the next day. Three days later I received a call with a price, (which was high considering it was for labor only) and gave a completion date of 3 weeks. That was the last I heard from Sickles until Nov. 23rd when "I" called them to find out where my drapes were. The girl I spoke with didn't know anything about them and would have to find out where they were in the shop and call me back. Four days went by before I got that call which informed me that they were cut but had to be hemmed. It took them 3 1/2 months to get that far! Not at all acceptable!!! But was promised they would get right on them. That was the last I heard from them. On January 27, 2014 I went to the shop to retrieve my four drapes regardless of their finished status. After the young girl searched through a very disarrayed shop, my finished drapes were finally found. They did reduce a "small" amount off the price because of the amount of time it took. 4 months 17 days later I finally got them home to hang in our gazebo; only to find the hems were uneven buy an inch and a half, the side seams were crooked, the grommets were all uneven and randomly spaced and the worst part they were dirty with what looks like someone ate their lunch on one of them! Grease stained and deep creases like they had been buried in a pile of material; which was evident by the huge pile in a corner of the customer area of old foam, old removed yardage, misc. rubbish that was heaped a good 3 feet high. (I'm not kidding!) If the customer area looks like this, my question is what is their work area like? Their very shoddy workmanship, their lack of customer care is beyond anything acceptable. Its too bad that a long standing business that had done excellent work in the past is not reliable now. I highly recommend that you find a more dependable company that takes pride in their finished product and cares about customer service. You will not find that at Sickles anymore!
