I've only been here a handful of times to help run errands for relatives and this place isn't great. A simple task to deposit a check ends up taking 15 minutes. They've changed their guidelines every time I've went. They first required entrance and exit access street side. So, after parking in their lot, you have to walk all the way around to get inside. Why not use the door that's facing the parking lot instead?! Then, they stated only 2 patrons at a time inside while the rest of the line is outside. However, most people don't read the signs and enter anyway.... even though there were 3 people outside (including myself) waiting already. Nobody told them or kicked them out. But, if an employee did tell them, instead of coming out and waiting in line, they helped themselves to a seat (inside) and waited for a turn! Only 2 or 3 clerks are working at the windows while the rest were at their desks. Most of their lights aren't on inside. I guess it's to save energy and prevent a brown or black out in the city... But, they keep the doors closed so there's no air circulation inside. If they had an air conditioner running I couldn't tell. Sometimes, they give me the third degree when I try to deposit a check. Questioning where I got the check from.... I'm putting money in, not trying to take any out. I'm just glad I don't have to come here often.... read more

Like the other yelpers, this is my secondary bank. I just got a letter in the mail today regarding my savings account needing to have a minimum balance of $2,500 in order to not be charged an account maintenance fee of $3/month. I don't know about you guys, but I don't have an extra $2,500 laying around to keep in my checking account to avoid a monthly account "maintenance" fee. Originally I thought it was my checking account that had the monthly maintenance fee, but that letter for my business checking account has not come in the main yet... the terms will be effective May 1st and the minimum balance will be $5,000 otherwise a $10 monthly maintenance fee will apply. Similarly, my primary bank (Chase) had a similar "service" fee of $10 if your checking account balance is less than $1,500. At least they sent out a notice a few months prior to the effective date... East West Bank only gave a months notice. I also have a safe deposit box here, are they going to start charging a "maintenance" fee too?!? read more

This is a fresh story to tell. I went to this bank last Saturday, it was a tough process, because all of them are basically age 50+, don't know how to use computer, don't know what's critital to make a wire. I filled out the wire form and handed to a banker/teller, she said she wasn't able to recognize the infomation I filled, then she let me filled one more time, and I did it in the couter which next to her. After I finished, she was still unable to recognize some informtion, at least not all. Then she asked serveral times, and re-wirte some of the information that I may not wrote very clearly, then she let me wrote down my initials at the section that she revised. I just believed that this will be fine and will processed on Monday morning, my cut off time is 1PM. On Monday, they called me once, I was too busy to pick up any phone calls, then they called again, I picked up. Here, there's a staff or manager named Evelyn Lam, said she need to re-verify my information because what I wrote is unclear. I was like, holy so the teller kinda revised my information for me and I also filled out the fom twice and all these actions don't help. Lam said she needs to verify my ssn, I was afraid it's a fraud and con, gave her my DL number, then she asked what my mom's last name, then she asked the escrow information which I dont' have it in my hand. I can only asked her to send email which she said she sent at 10am ish, when she was saying that, she was also saying that louder and louder, tried to cover my voice. Oh well, "nice person" I've ever seen. The important part is coming, after we had this bad conversation over the phone, I went to my other bank, and finished a wire in like 10 minutes which is a so much better experience in Eastwest. Then I sent her an email, that said I don't need to do wire now. Then she wired out my funds. Yes she wired out my funds, without completely verification, and she said thank me for verifying which she didn't verify with me completely. So now questions came to me, I used to do wire several times with EW other brenches, no one ever verified and wasn't able to do wire after I finished everything in the bank. If I do the wire in the bank and the bank indeed has such a verification process that Lam had to me. Why can I do the wire so easily the first few times? Are those verifications from Lam necessary? She claimed she didn't receive my cancellation email, so just wired out my funds without fully verification. She also sent me a request to reverse the wire. read more

With Wells Fargo ATMs, for example, one does not need an envelope to store the deposit. With East West, one needs to use an envelope for the deposit. But there was no envelope near the ATM at this branch. I don't know whether the employees there are lazy or what. read more

This is by far the bank with the WORST, and I mean the WORST customer service ever!!! Absolutely TERRIBLE!! I would give a "0" rating if I could. I came in around 4:45 on 7/21/2023 to make a deposit. There was no one in line. Two windows were closed with a sign saying to wait for the next available window. At one closed window, a supervisor was talking or helping a male teller. At the other closed window was another male teller doing his work(????). They saw me waiting but did not say a word, so I stood there and waited for about 5 minutes. Then.....a third male teller came to the window. I thought he was going to say, "Next." But guess what!!!????? He put the sign to wait for the next available window!!!!!! What the hell!!!!???? Three tellers sitting at three windows with the sign saying to wait for the next available window!!!????? They let the only customer standing there wait as they did their work!??? Are you kidding me!!?? They do not care about customer service!!!! I left without making a deposit and went to the East West Bank on Baldwin Ave. What a difference!! Service was fast, efficient, and friendly. I will be using this bank from now on. Never will I use the East West Bank on E. Duarte Rd. Stay away unless you want to experience the WORST customer service!!! read more

Hmm, I find it quite interesting that they got such low ratings (hence I feel compelled to give them a rating they deserve based on my own experience to increase the average). I have visited numerous times and have only been greeted by friendly faces who are more than willing to help. Even when I don't have the deposit or withdrawal slip completed, they do it for me, which is great customer service that's above and beyond in my opinion. When I call, if the person who answers can't address my needs, they get a supervisor on the phone and whatever issue I presented always got resolved. I'm quite happy with them. Granted my balance never fell below the minimum but that's not their problem, it's yours. And remember in order to get respect you have to give respect! My only gripe about them is the inferior online banking. BofA is far far more advanced in their technology including mobile banking. However, I come to EWB for convince and so far so good! read more

I have an account here as a secondary account. Since it is a secondary account I keep, at times, very low balances. It is mainly for emergency purposes. If I ever go to withdraw some money, the teller then straight out tells me my balances are too low. What the heck? On my account agreement forms there is absolutely no minimums to maintain. If, for example, I have only $20, and I want to withdraw $10 then there is no need for them to call over 2 supervisors and tell me if Im sure I want to withdraw and tell me I "Need to make a deposit." That is their exact phrase I have heard more than once. On one occasion, some time ago, I deposited my paycheck here since my direct deposit got messed up and didn't come in as a direct deposit. They wanted to put a hold on my paycheck for 3-4 business days. When I showed them the pay stub and all they said they had to hold it because I could call my employer as soon as I left the bank and claim it lost. That, to me, was calling me a lying "possible" criminal in my face. One another visit, while waiting in line, I overheard the "manager" calling someone on the phone about a $120ish dollar check that had been returned on their account. She was yelling at the customer as if she (manager) was a drill sergeant in the army and asking the customer to be in before 10am if not she would return the check. In all fairness I do not back up any person writing bad checks, but if they do then follow procedures. If its a repeating bad check writer then call the cops, close the account, warn them or something. Don't yell out loud on the phone in middle of the office where every customer can hear you. They treat customers as if they were in elementary school and they were all principles at a third world country were yelling at your customers is ok. read more

Horrible service. Displays no sense of urgency. Waits in line are often quite long. Plenty of employees, just no Tellers. Will not open no other lanes. When bringing in a third party check to cash, they exhibit tremendous caution. Then the wait is extra long, because despite the amount of accounts you have with them, there is no sense of trust whatsoever. They need to seriously hire people who can indeed speak and understand English. After all this is the United States of America. People leave the Branch with a very frustrated look.
