Last weekend on a trip to Sacramento, I finally had a chance to stop by their Olive Mill and Winery. There is a nice sparking clean outdoor patio with picnic tables within a few steps from the olive oil grove but it was a bit hot that day so we opted to sit inside. In addition to the olive oil tasting set, there were some brunch items such as a crostini and salad as well as a Mediterranean plate with hummus. We opted for the crostini, olive oil tasting and a cappuccino. The jalapeño olive oil was unique and flavorful enough that we bought a couple bottles of it to take home. The pear vinaigrette was thick and tangy. The waitresses were friendly and helpful when we had a couple questions about the dishes. The shelves in the shop area is full of flavored olive oils and vinaigrette as well as ceramic and a whole slew of items for serving charcuterie. If you are a fan of olive oil and are planning on a trip up to Sacramento or Lake Tahoe, would definitely recommend stopping by to check out Calivirgin.

From the very beginning, Evonne was incredibly easy to work with. Communication was quick, planning was stress-free, and they made the entire process seamless. We hosted a private after-hours bday wine tasting for our guests, which made the celebration feel extra special. The venue is beautiful and welcoming, with plenty of parking, comfortable indoor seating, outdoor seating, and fire pits that made for the perfect atmosphere on a beautiful summer evening. Our guests loved being able to spread out, relax, and enjoy themselves. The wines were a huge hit with our group. My family absolutely loved the Symphony (what I like to call a "beginner's wine" because it's so approachable and easy to enjoy). My personal favorite was the Zinfandel, with the Cabernet as a close second. The Red Blend and Syrah were also excellent. Honestly, all of their reds were fantastic. While I'm not typically a white wine drinker, I appreciated the variety they offer. One of the things I appreciated most was how easy everything was. Fast responses, great communication, beautiful venue, wonderful hosts, and a memorable experience for our guests. We will absolutely be back for future events and are already looking forward to trying their sparkling wines ( coming soon!). They offered a beautiful outdoor patio seating and indoor wasn't bad either. We grabbed a seat at the bar while we waited for our reservation at Oak Farm down the street. We were greeted by Hal and the owner of this newer family run winery. They were both super friendly and welcoming. Block 21 wasn't here the last time I was in Lodi for wine and we were so happy that we started here. I look forward to coming back in the future. Everyone was so hospitable and their wines left a lastly impression. For a four year old winery, I should have bought more bottles. We had two of their "Limited Production flights,". They waived their $15 tasting fee, with purchase of a bottle. We loved their cabernet franc and viognier. I enjoyed all of their wines of their limited production list even their Rosé and personally I'm not typically a Rosé drinker, but enjoyed this one. I loved hearing the story of how they make tempranillo here. I love this Spanish wine and anyone who claims to make a good one, I'll try it. Hal was our favorite. We could have hung out with him all day. Thank you for your hospitality! If I had any regrets about this Lodi trip it was not spending more time at Block 21, our driver arrived earlier than expected. I thought that maybe since they have shrimp and enchiladas, that they would make a shrimp enchilada - they won't. The have beer, no wine, no margs. I was a hungry pescatarian, getting more anxious - but I stuck to the plan, and I'm glad I did. What I didn't understand was the authenticity. The rest doesn't matter. Yes, I was having a minor melt-down, so I kept things basic. Just cheese enchiladas. I was resolved to be disappointed. I was NOT. The enchiladas were EPIC. I asked for more sauce because I wanted to take a bath in it. I usually skip rice, I ate it all - so much flavor. The beans too - too delicious to be vegetarian - so I didn't ask, and I'll never regret. This place is legit - and I am sorry I ever doubted. I also tried my companions chile relleno, which I usually don't care for - and I LOVED IT. My other companion had carne asada, which I did not sample - but he said it was delightful. Yeah, I've got some LA attitude from time to time, but this place beats most of my LA haunts on flavor. So stick to the basics, don't be a snob, and you'll be in for a real treat.
